A very depressing start to our stay in Vienna.
Hosts were helpful in communication and in allowing access slightly ahead of due time
While within walking distance of main centre, apartment is in unattractive street with few nearby shops/restaurants etc. The fact that the street entrance door was totally missing was not a good start.
Although advised in advance, the fact that we were asked for a security deposit was not great, as it suggested a lack of trust.
The communal hallway was tiled floor to ceiling, as was the entire apartment, not just the kitchen and bathroom. The tiles made it feel cold and prison-like—more so than the Booking.com photos suggest.
The furniture was extremely basic, and the kitchen had only a small microwave and no fridge. Oddly, it included a saucepan, an iron and a plastic top-up jug, but no ironing board. There was also a pod coffee machine with one pod.
The bathroom had no towel rails, the towels were hard and clearly not tumble-dried, and a hot-water tank was hidden by a blue tarpaulin.
The double bed had a thin, uncomfortable mattress and no nearby furniture, such as a bedside table.
The thin curtains were too long and badly fitted. While the owners had fitted some coloured LED lights at the windows to provide some colour, the rest of the lighting was harsh downlighters, all adding to the feel of a prison cell.
After one night, we moved to a Vienna hotel for the remaining three nights and told Comfort Apartments the flat was too basic and the bed uncomfortable. They replied that the website photos were accurate and nothing was wrong with the bed, and not a hint of apology or acknowledgement that we were obviously unhappy.
