We welcome you to Ashford Old Schoolhouse in the beautiful surroundings of Ashford Estate and Cong village between Loughs Corrib and Mask. Enjoy the stay in our historical cottage built by the Guinness family in 1853. Surrounded by endless woodland walking and cycling paths and bordering the beautiful grounds and gardens of Ashford Castle hotel. Cong village with pubs and restaurants is just a 20 minute walk through the estate. We are glad to offer professionally guided fishing for brown trout and Atlantic salmon. We provide a full angling service which includes guiding, boat rental and fly-fishing tuition. There is lots to do in the area for the whole family - horse riding, zip lining, golfing, falconry, archery and boat trips all within 5 minute walk. The area of Cong and Connemara is stunning for sightseeing, hill walking, beaches and little villages with cosy pubs. Kylemore Abbey, Clifden, Galway city and Westport all within less than an hours drive Accommodation is situated in renovated wing of old Ashford Castle gate lodge with separate entrance, garden and parking. Double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/living room with wood burning stove downstairs. Triple bedroom with 3 single beds upstairs and a bathroom upstairs. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Wonderful few days spent in this beautiful cottage with my family. It is full of charm and character and fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Situated on the grounds of Ashford Castle we were spoilt for great walks around the Castles gardens and is only a short walk into the quaint town of Cong. Throughly enjoyed our cosy nights spent by the stove fire ( generous supply of logs provided). Woulld definitely recommend watching the Quiet Man during your stay (dvd also available in the cottage) and recognising all the different locations from the film which surrounds the area. Even my teenager enjoyed it! Maybe a cliché but definitely memories were made, and hopefully one day we will return again to stay.

Just back from a week at the Old Schoolhouse and I can confirm accuracy of all other 5* Reviews. The house is an absolute Gem set in the most perfect location. The grounds are beautiful for a morning/evening stroll (10 mins walk to Cong Village) and the Hospitality that Frank & Kersti provide is next to none. Until next time!

The cottage was exactly exactly as stated. Everything you could need was there. In the Ashford Castle Estate with access to the grounds and a short/beautiful walk to Cong. Would stay here again!

Location was perfect for doing the Falconry. A must do while staying. Close to Cong and driving through the castle upon entering and leaving was magical.

Frank and Kersti were very helpful in answering questions and helping connect us with a local pub to hold a birthday celebration. The cottage is extremely charming and the nearby town of Cong has some very cute shops and nice restaurants. Would stay here again.

Not because it was bad, but because we don’t want anyone to find out about this beat kept secret in Ireland! We stayed at the cottage for three days during our trip to Ireland. Each day we would take a day trip to different spots and it was so nice to come back to a warm fire. The hosts are
Very communicative and even came to meet us once we got lost trying to find the property. The grounds are so beautiful, and we ate at the restaurant at the lodge once, which was phenomenal. Being a low season the weather made it to where I could have sat in the cottage all day with a book. We cannot wait to visit again !

Old Schoolhouse was delightful from beginning to end! Every darling detail is perfect in the house. Quiet, hearing the birds and sheep in the morning. Trails everywhere to hike, the lake, Ashford Castle and all it has to offer, with options of fishing and boat tours, falconry school, horse back riding and more. The perfect active get away.

Beautiful, cozy and private cottage. We had everything we needed to make excellent Christmas memories. The ground level entrance, bedroom and bathroom made this cottage ideal for traveling with a person dealing with mobility issues. The proximity to Ashford Castle allowed us to easily access many services but still feel indepedant. Defijnitely recommend.

This cottage was warm and cozy on a fall rainy day. Came with everything you might need including that wood burning fireplace. The owners never bothered us and gave us all the information we needed. Short distance to many amazing sites, including the Ashford Castle. The town of Cong is adorable, dont forget to visit the butcher! I woudl highly recommend this place to anyone, just be aware that large luggage has a hard time going up the spiral staircase

Very nice comfortable place to stay that was once an old school house. Appreciated all the work that had been done to the house to modernize it. Great location. My wife and I would define stay here again and would highly recommend it.

The cottage is located on Ashford Castle property, you drive over the bridge to the castle and follow a small winding road on the property to this cute cottage. LOVED it.

Magical is the word that says how we feel about the old school house. The facilities are well provided and we were made to feel very at home by the host and the community of Cong. We took an afternoon to go fishing with Frank, the day was perfect and Frank was a most genial guide. As introduction to all things Irish you can do no better than this.

Honeymoon of our dreams!!!
This divine little schoolhouse puts you right in the heart of fairytale adventure! With horse riding, falconry, Archery, zip lines, and a MASSIVE castle only a stone's throw away...you simply cannot go wrong. You get an entire cottage to yourself for a phenomenal price. Frank and Kersti have outdone themselves with providing such a perfect and quiet oasis. Seeing Kersti out most days tending her garden or out walks with her wee ones, brought such a warmth to the experience. We highly recommend this to anyone looking for peace, tranquility, and a touch of fairytale dreams! Our honeymoon here was perfect and we will definitely be back!! Thank you so much!!

Location. Location. Location
I'm afraid I don't have the word's to describe the quality of this accommodation. The area it's in with walk's on your doorstep and so much to do right on the castle grounds. The village of Cong a 20 minute stroll through the castle gardens is where the Quiet man was filmed and the School House is in one scene in the film and many other locations are in walking distance.
The cottage has everything you need for your stay. We stayed at the start of November and it has central heating and a wood burner with stock's of wood to use through your stay.
The owners live in the property next door and were always available for any assistance needed .

Lovely stay
Pretty cottage located in the grounds of Ashford Castle, in the quaint village of Cong. A great location for exploring Galway, Clare and beyond. Could have happily stayed longer than a week. Frank & Kersti were great help and always on hand if we needed anything. Loved the cottage, was so clean and cosy. Would definitely recommend!

This place is so magical! We loved everything...the cottage, the fireplace, the forest, the lake, easy access to gardens and castle and most importantly the feeling of tranquility and peace. Thank you for offering a place that created for us exceptional holiday time. We definitely want to go back and experience it again.

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful home. Frank & Kersti were excellent hosts, with quick communication both before and during our visit. We were left to our own devices, but knew there were only a call away if needed, which we didn't in the end, as everything exceeded our expectations. There are lovely thoughful ammenities in the house such as a DVD player, SKY ( not that you'll need them, but we did have some rain so very handy for little kids ) dishawasher etc. All in all it was a home from home with everything you'll need. The locality is unsurpassed with the fabulous Ashford castle and all it has to offer quite litteraly on your doorstep. We biked around the grounds, and enjoyed the open spaces and fresh air. The kids loved the upstairs 'loft' and ensuite which gave them ( and us ) a great sense of freedom and adventure. I could go on, but in short would 110% recommend both the property. and it's generous owners. Thanks again Frank and Kersti. We'd love to return

Gorgeous place
We had an amazing week here. We didnt move off the estate. Hired bikes, did zip lining, tree climbing, pony riding and fishing... and visited the wooded beach for swimming in lough corrib almost everyday.. house was perfect for our family of 5.. the peace and quiet was priceless..and the scenery stunning. We will come back for definite.. tks Kerstie and Frank

Tranquility
This property is picturesque and tranquil. It is a story book cottage well maintained and beautifully presented by Frank and Kirsty. The local walks and nearby areas are a delight! Overall a very relaxing break.

We love Ireland, and especially Cong.
This cottage is very comfortable and has everything necessary for a comfortable stay. Nice complete kitchen for cooking should you choose to cook a meal. Right on the grounds of Ashford Castle, we enjoyed walking in the forest and flying hawks in the forest with the Ireland School of Falconry, which also is a stone's throw away.
Frank took us fishing on Lough Corrib. My wife Jolene caught our dinner that night - a 1 1/2lb brown trout! Frank prepared the trout, perfectly filleting it for us.
Kersti prepared fresh scones and jams for us. What a delight!
This is a very cozy comfortable place to stay.
Highly recommend.

A peaceful place for inspiration and outdoor activities.
It was great. Kersti met us on arrival and walked us through everything. She was a quick message away and quick to respond.
The only thing we regreat was not going out to catch some fish with Frank.

Perfect stay in fairytale cottage
This was such a wonderful experience, great hosts with hospitality in their souls. Being on the Ashford Castle grounds with direct access to all activities and the beauty of the park setting, made for an unforgettable experience. Walking distance to Cong with its own charm. Would stay here any chance we get. You won't be disappointed with this location.
