Perfect place for our 3 families. Geri was wonderful to work with. Plenty of room for 13 of us. We all loved the backyard activities, fishing, swimming, volleyball, badminton and boating. Great place to enjoy Alaska with friends and family.

The grandchildren really enjoyed the spacious home, the lake for ice fishing, and skating, and the hill for sledding. We caught lots of fish. They thought it was nice of the owner to decorate for the Holidays before we arrived. We were told to be aware of our noise level as there were renters in the lower level. We tried our best. We were never told we were too loud so we must have succeeded. It's hard to keep the noise level down when you have 5 children with you! Our host was always in contact with us during our stay but not obnoxious. I suppose she could have thanked us after our stay for renting from them. I think that would have been a nice gesture. Overall, everyone enjoyed the stay. Pretty much everything you would have at your own house or wish to have was available for us. The house has a lot of knickknacks so that is a little hard for children not to touch. Especially, for children who do not have those things in their own home. We gawked at the mountain views and the eagles. The home was easy to find. The grown children live in Anchorage and were delighted to find trails to use in the summer that were near to the property where we stayed. Thank you for the availability of this property.

Perfect Alaskan getaway!
Perfect Alaskan getaway!
Our family stay could not have been better. Everything was exactly as advertised and we had the most comfortable and enjoyable stay at the chalet. Everything we could have needed was there and the place accommodated our large family wonderfully. We had so many rave reviews from our traveling family members about the chalet. A fantastic location to get together, relax, and enjoy all things Alaskan. A real sweet spot!

Perfect Retreat
Looked all over for a spot for a high school reunion retreat for up to 17 women. It's not easy to find one that will accommodate a large number at an affordable price so we were absolutely delighted with Canoe Lake Chalet. It was not only a great accommodation and affordable, it was also comfortable, super clean, spacious and had absolutely everything we needed. Geri was a wonderful hostess and made everything about our booking and our stay easy and fun. We rented the whole house and were able to spread out and make ourselves very comfortable ~ The KCHS Sisterhood of 75 thanks you for our delightful stay in your beautiful home.

Beautiful house.
I didn’t realize the lake was such a climb to the house. Some of our family weren’t able to go to the lake. House was beautiful and kitchens were fully stocked.

Families will love this place!
Our two families had the nicest time staying at your Palmer lake house. From the moment we arrived, the kids in our group found their happy place in the yard and on the lake out back. All was provided - canoe, kayak, paddle boat, floating dock, life vests, fishing rods, badminton net, and several bikes! The never darkening sky allowed us to fish and canoe close to midnight on a couple of our evenings. Such fun! Geri made sure that we had all that we needed upon our arrival and checked in with tips throughout our stay. The home was a great midway point for our adventures in Talkeetna and Seward! The drive down to Seward was, in a word, stunning! We appreciate the McCann’s for their attention to detail, their caring nature and for sharing their beautiful home with us while we were in Alaska. We will forever remember the beauty of Alaska and the kindness of the people who live there. Thank you again!

Incredible home - exceeded all expectations
The home looked like a good option for us when we reviewed it on VRBO, but it exceeded all expectations. The home is well-built and furnished with everything needed for a large family to be comfortable. The huge deck is great for relaxing and the large grill was a nice option for meals. The kitchen has every pot, pan, bowl, cup or utensil that you can imagine. The refrigerator and cabinets are well stocked with every condiment or spice you may need, plus ample supplies of coffee and tea. The lake is beautiful with many toys available to enjoy it. On top of all that, Geri was a gracious host, texting to ensure we arrived and that we had everything we needed. We stay at a lot of VRBOs, but this one sets a new standard. Incredible.....

Just Perfect
Worked perfect for our little kids basketball team. Chaperones and kids loved it. Space was good for our large group. Location was close enough to everywhere we needed to go. House was completely turn-key and made our stay very easy.

The house is lovely and has everything you need for an amazing vacation!
We had a wonderful visit! The home is so warm, comfortable and inviting. We visited for Christmas and the McCanns put up a decorated tree, stockings and several other holiday decorations. This was so touching and made the holiday away from home feel more real and fun.
We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor space! The McCanns provided us with sleds which the kids used almost daily to sled down the hill in the backyard. When they weren't sledding they could usually be found ice skating on the frozen lake in the backyard or making snow angels and snowmen. We were even fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights dance across the horizon late one night.
As exciting as spending time outdoors was, we also loved our time indoors. The house has tons of family friendly games which and provided lots of entertainment. The kitchen was very well equipt with appliances ranging from a KitchenAid stand mixer to a functional antique wood stove. I was thrilled! I'm a hobby baker and don't often get to pursue my passion while vacationing as most rentals don't have the necessary tools. I got to shower my family with baked goodies including cinnamon rolls, cookies, cake, and bars. We even baked up and decorated salt dough ornaments and a gingerbread village. The McCanns taught us how to use the wood stove and provided us with chopped wood for it. We cooked a delicious dinner and bread in the wood stove.
We enjoyed some local sites as well. We visited the Reindeer Farm in Palmer on Christmas Eve and our kids got to meet Santa's reindeer (and Santa)!! We visited the Iditarod Sled Dog Museum in Wasilla and learned more about the race and the training and treatment of the dogs. We also went tubing at JBER, the local military base.
Overall, we had a fabulous winter vacation and are so thankful the McCanns shared their home and amazing hospitality with us!

Fabulous home with unmatched beauty outside every window.
This home is really special. It's very clean and beautifully decorated. Has everything you need--plenty of room for a big family, the kitchen is well stocked including spices and some condiments in the fridge, lots of comfy places to sit and visit, a gorgeous deck with BBQ, fishing tackle and boats for the beautiful lake just down the steps (we fished off the pier and caught dinner!), friendly and helpful hosts. But the best part of all is the beautiful view of the woods and lake from the living room windows. A feast for the eyes and heart every day! We would definitely rent this house again. Why look for another when you could be here? Loved it.

Wonderful!
Our family needed a place to stay for our annual State Fair visit & this place is the perfect location! My only regret is that we didn't plan an extra day or two to just stay at the home and enjoy all of the amenities, especially that gorgeous lake! Beautiful location, roomy home with all the features you could want. The owners had superior communication & really have thought of just about everything to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. It'll be our "go-to" place in Palmer from here out! Book without hesitation! :)

Quiet solitude, Beautiful views, lovely home,
Perfect base to relax, enjoy and explore Alaska. cool crisp mornings with a steaming cup of coffee on the covered porch overlooking a serene private lake - perfect. Plenty of room for the kids to explore and have fun - Canoes, paddle boats, bikes, fishing, hiking trails, keep everyone entertained. The home is well appointed and family friendly. Smores around the campfire (fire ring) and a glass of wine to close the day. The scenery is amazing and location is perfect base for taking in the beauty of Alaska. Denali is 4 hours north, Kenai National park is 3 hours and Homer is 4 hours. Closer to Palmer take in the Matanuska glacier one hour drive north along the Glenn Highway and Hatcher pass - both breathtaking. The owners are very helpful and friendly. It is a private residence during the off season - the owners were there when we arrived and for our last two days of our stay - staying in the downstairs unit and working around the property.

As soon as we walked into the house, we knew we had made a great choice. The owner Geri was so easy to work with to arrange the rental, as well as being ever so helpful with touring suggestions. The house is well outfitted with all the amenities one could want. The rooms are cozy and comfortable and well equipped. On our last night we built a fire in the backyard fire ring and toasted marshmallows. Easy access to the airport from here.

We were so fortunate to have been able to spend 5 glorious nights in Canoe Lake Chalet. The house was fully stocked with such things as: pans, spices, and kitchen needs; an assortment of boats, hiking poles and bikes; games and videos; binoculars; and enough beds, futons and sofas to accommodate our group of 14.
Our family was so thrilled with the location on the lake, that they went right down to fish as soon as we arrived from the airport (at 4 am).
We had the entire house and felt it was best to put our mother on the first floor (in the beautiful suite) due to mobility issues and the steps. It was a great choice for her.
We would 100% stay here again if we come to Alaska on a vacation.
Geri and Kevin are gracious and caring hosts.

We had the BEST time at Canoe Lake Chalet! With this being my first time using VRBO I was really hesitant with any property. Geri quickly broke me of my hesitation! The next morning after I requested more info she called me and we talked about every single detail of how the process would work. We had a group of 10 adults that need our space and we found it in this awesome chalet. The back porch faces north directly towards Hatcher Pass right over a beautiful lake. It truly feels like you have your own little piece of heaven. When we were there pretty much everything was frozen but we could tell Geri and her husband have everything you need to have fun on the lake including paddle boats! Lots of bicycles are there too! We stayed in the cabin for a week and a couple of the days we just took off on foot from the cabin and found miles upon miles of hiking trails practically at your front door. Perhaps our greatest adventure was when Geri set us up with the good people at Talkeetna Air Taxi and Denali Zip Lining for a group scenic flight where we landed on a glacier and took a snowmobile to a zip lining course that really was an experience! It's hard to say what our favorite part of the chalet was but since all 10 of us are on a national tour of a musical, Million Dollar Quartet (look us up), we go months without a kitchen. Let me tell you, this place has EVERYTHING you need!! Cooking for 2 is hard enough...10 is even more of a challenge, as you can expect! You'll be located soooooo close to Palmer and Wasilla you will not have to go far to get any food. We ate ALL of our meals but one at the property :) I recommend this property for anybody and am already ready to plan my next trip!

It is a great memory for me to spend a two days visit with my friends. We travelled at Alaska during the spring break, and we spend a good time for relaxing at this place. It is never easy to find a house that can hold 10 people, nevertheless, the house has enough space for everyone of us. In addition, the scenery was brilliant and I was really enjoy the time to have a moment of peace and silence. The landlord was really kind and patience. She helped us a lot and made good suggestions on our travel plan. For my part, I got a good time spending time with my friends and a two days visit was too short for us to enjoy everything here.

It was on this Friday, February 20th, that we were moving out of a home to what we thought was a long term rental home in Wasilla. In the middle of the day we learned that the long term rental would not be available for another 2 weeks! What were we to do??? The Lord directed us to look into furnished rentals and let me say this.....MRS. GERI just welcomed our large family in IMMEDIATELY!! It was such a blessing in our hour of need!!! They went to great extent to get things ready for us at a moment's notice and even added extra bedding arrangements and a baby mattress for our baby! The home was so nice and clean and had everything you could need! We were so thankful even for the furniture in the home....a rocking recliner for our little ones and a precious highchair that converted into a rocker!!! We learned some of the sweetest lessons here about esteeming others above ourselves and were just humbled at God's goodness and provisions for our family. The upstairs bedroom was great for our younger children to play in and did I mention the great "LARGE" washer and dryer!! We were made to feel at home and sweet memories were made not only with our family but with Mrs. Geri and the others that we had the opportunity to meet. We thank our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for fulfilling His promise of "My God shall supply all your need in glory by Christ Jesus"....and He did this once again through Mrs. Geri, her friendship and their lovely home. And many come to this home probably during the summer season, but we would recommend not missing out on this in the winter as we were able to see beautiful snow all across the lakes and trees...it was a breathtaking sight of God's creation!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Mr. and Mrs. McCann. The LORD is good!!! The LORD bless thee, and keep thee; the LORD make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee; the LORD lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." Sincerely with the love of Christ, ALL ELEVEN of US

Our home burned and as a family of 7, we needed both room and relaxation. We found the Eagle's nest advertised and when we saw the beauty of the location, the LAKE, the hills, the quietness, we wanted to stay there. Our children, (6 months, 19, 23, 23, 27) loved the lake. My wife and I paddle boated around the lake, and the kids had great times having camp fires and as the fall moved into winter, playing on the frozen lake. We were blessed to stay at the Canoe Lake Chalet through the first of February and I will say we enjoyed our views of the Northern Lights. We felt the property was our home. We needed to heal from the trauma of our own home burning and we did. We met new people and always had pleasant experiences sharing camp fires and other visits. We would recommend the Chalet for any family gathering or get-a-way that you can plan. Enjoy Alaska's quietness and beauty year round in a very affordable and memorable way. Our hosts were wonderful, even including our children in wood chopping and lawn mowing. They made us feel at home. Thank you.

I was lucky enough to find this wonderful home on short notice for valentines day. It is a nice home with a great view. It has a a wood stove, and a claw foot tub. The owners were very responsive and great to work with. Highly recommended

We had an extended family vacation over Christmas in the Bear Den with family from out of state (we live off road out by Skwentna and the river was unsafe for travel, so we found ourselves needing a place to stay in town for their visit.) Canoe Lake Chalet was everything we hoped for; comfortable, well stocked, beautiful view, and close to everything. The owners were friendly, communicative, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to everyone! Great viewing for Northern lights!

I reluctantly leave this rating at poor. Reluctant because the interaction with the owner was generally very positive. Minor issues included confusion around exactly how many adults could sleep in the basement apartment; and it was not clear that the small children would be counted as additional guests. The hill down to the lake is very steep and treacherous when wet. The main reason for leaving this review is regarding the final bill. The agreed upon price was changed after the fact, and the rate was "corrected to a much higher rate" at the last minute. Whether this is actually what happened or not, it is a very bad business practice, and others I know coming to the area to work will be steered clear of this situation. The owner may feel justified in her actions, but this one fact left the entire stay with a bad taste in the mouth. Beware.
