Private and Artistic cabin, Pet friendly, no cleaning fee
About this cabin rental
Located in Vermont, this charming cabin for R 3,633 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. In this current time of concern over the Covid-19 coronavirus, I would like to assure all my up coming and future guests that every effort is taken to thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire cabin between guests. I have also decided to block of a couple of days between guests (sometimes that actually turns into multiple days based upon reservations) to futher mitigate any possible transmission of germs. Also understand that the cabin is private and located away from other people in a township with a small population. Due to a recent question, I would like to make it clear at the start (even though this information is elsewhere in the listing), that the cabin can comfortably sleep 7 if the configuration of single and double beds is fully utilized, and a few more could be squeezed in if the couches and roll away cot are used, BUT my prices are based upon a 4 guest maximum with an additional charge of $35 per person per night over the 4. Now on with the listing: ARTISTIC LOG CABIN, private and peaceful. Set into a perfect homestead property with fruit trees, berries, gardens and naturally terraced terrain. With woods and old pastures all around, the birds will herald the morning sunrise. Beautiful views from the numerous windows and porch around two sides of house; also, a large slate patio that is perfect for cook outs. Fully appointed kitchen with dishwasher, microwave and two ovens. Cabin accomodates up to 7 people, master bedroom with private bathroom, second bedroom has one double bed, one single and another single in bedroom loft (which kids LOVE). The sunroom has two couches that double as beds. The bedrooms and two bathrooms are upstairs, one bathroom is on the first floor. The cabin is owner built from mostly reused or local materials found in surrounding woods. Each bathroom is a unique work of art and you have never seen a fireplace like this one! The cabin is meant to be an example of how a beautiful, comfortable and functional house can be built for a fraction of the cost using your imagination. $200 per night, 2 night minimum based on up to 4 guests, additional guest $35 each per night. The cabin is artistic and rustic in nature and in order to appeal to those ideals certain safety considerations are not present in terms of railing heights and spacing, steps inside and out are irregular, balconies inside and out, patios and porches as well as surrounding terrain are all organic and not young child safe. Please consider this when planning a trip with young children and feel free to ask for more details. ALSO AVAILABLE for VACATION RENTAL: Treehouse compound. Two treehouses (one two story, one three story), cooking/eating pavilion, outside shower and firepit. Sleeps 11 total in warmest part of summer (5 in cooler months on either end), very cool! type in 802728 in the "search for" bar to find it on this site.

Even though it was a rainy Vermont weekend we still had an absolute wonderful time at this beautifully crafted home, it's like staying in a story book the pictures do not do it justice, the home itself is ecofriendly which I appreciated, but did not skimp on luxury, each room makes you feel like a kid again and are living in an artists treehouse. Views from all windows are stunning, walks around the property as well. There's lots to do locally from hikes to skiing, but we really never wanted to leave. Thank you Rik!!

Rik was a fabulous host. He was unable to meet us upon arrival but Teri did. She showed us all we needed to know about the house and was so nice. We were welcomed with fresh eggs , fruit and some delicious bread. The cabin was very comfortable, clean and homey. You have to love the water fall and rock shower. So many nice details and craftsman details all about the cabin. I am looking forward to booking again in autumn. I’m sure the foliage will be beautiful.

This is the place you'll want to stay in if you're interested in touring the nearby cities. It is serene and you're surrounded by nature. I cannot express how fresh the air is in the morning; it's quite something else to be breathing it in first thing after you wake up!

Lovely log cabin in a tranquil location. Perfect place to experience the fall.

We found Rik’s place very homey, cozy and peaceful. We can appreciate all the artistic, creative and whimsical touches throughout the house. There’s a lot to explore in the surroundings; both on the property and in the surrounding towns. The yard is full of fruit trees, berry bushes and grape arbors with a surprising “creature” tucked in the back. We slept like logs in a very comfy bed with the windows open and awoke to the sounds of birds and a rooster! So many great places to explore- we couldn’t get to all of them! Rik met us at the house at check in and gave us lots of tips and recommendations of places to visit, explore and shop. It’s a great spot to stay and we look forward to returning again soon.

This was our second stay here and just as before, we loved it. The house is clean, quirky and absolutely beautiful. We will be back.

The house is so much more than what is in pictures. The handmade wood is everywhere and the space is astonishing. You are nestled in the trees with so many options for outdoor spaces. Part of being in the woods is that there are a lot of creatures around! But each place we looked we gasped at the magic and beauty. Rik is very thorough and precise and very helpful.

Our stay at this artistic mountain home was a unique blend of natural beauty and creative architecture. From its remarkable woodwork to the panoramic views, the property left us in awe.
Every detail in the house spoke of thoughtful design and artistic flair. Nestled amidst the mountains, the serene surroundings amplified the comfort within the home.
This artistic retreat wasn't just a vacation but a revitalizing escape. We left feeling recharged and inspired. An unforgettable, highly recommended getaway!

Our stay at Hermit Thrush Treehouse was just what we needed for a weekend away from the everyday business of life.
The lodge and treehouses were secluded, private, peaceful and oh, so relaxing. We loved our host, Rik, who provided beautifully created and handcrafted lodging; clean and well equipped. The space and company was "down-to-earth", bringing us back to what is really important in life; quiet, nature, relationships, a connection to our spiritual selves. The addition of fresh eggs from Theresa's chickens and milk & butter from a local farm was icing on the cake, as they say. We will be back again!

My husband and I with our dog had a wonderful stay! Rick was a wonderful host answering any questions we had, quick to respond to us when needed, and made the most amazing bread for us! The cabin is beautiful with a quiet setting. beautiful grounds and the artistic flair is refreshing! And the main floor shower is incredible. It's now on our "to-do" list ! :-)
We would love to visit again!

Quiet, wooded, serene cabin. Our daughter loved the loft, a little “tween” hangout. Nicely appointed kitchen, one of a kind bathrooms. Nice place to disconnect from the buzz of the everyday world.

Definitely needed this vacation and this house delivered. It was our first family vacation since our daughter was born in January and it was a great way to reconnect and spend time together. The only complaint I would have is that (while probably not needed) my new mom anxiety didn't love the lack of a lock on the front door. Other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

Rik was an amazing host, and extremely accommodating. His spot is one of a kind and a very fun place to spend a weekend. Hoping to be back at some point!

I'm 63, I went with my 25 year old son and our 5 year old Lab. We have had some sad happenings within the family thru the past few years. The host, " Rik ", the cabin, the location, the stars at night near the campfire, The birds singing all day. For us, It was magical. The creativity that Rik put into this cabin, is 2nd to none.

The property was amazing. The tree houses and the hobbit house are worth the hike...

We hosted a small wedding during our stay on the property. Rik was so communicative and helpful from the start! We cannot wait to come back :)

Like all the other guests, we were blown away by the amazing bread and fresh eggs Rik left us. The house is a habitable work of art, with beautiful, creative features everywhere you look. The grounds are likewise a treasure trove of thoughtful, lovely outdoor spaces to relax and play. We will definitely be back soon. It’s the best rental we’ve ever visited.

Rik is a great host, we were greeted by freshly baked rosemary bread, which we enjoyed all weekend. The Logcabin was more than unique, always finding something new as we navigated around. The tree houses on the property were also pretty cool to take a look at. Will definitely come back again.

Beautiful cabin! Very clean, our host Rik was so nice and welcoming. His cabin is beyond unique! Found two beautiful restaurants nearby. We had a beautiful weekend getaway!

There's not much more to add to the other reviews except for the advice to definitely check out all four bathrooms in the cabin - the one on the bottom floor has a hand-made rock grotto which is a fairyland place to take a bath! Also, Rik's treehouses are so imaginative and are not to be missed. Very quiet and private location to relax and revive.

We wanted to celebrate our sons 8th birthday and booked this cottage.
Rik was so helpful from the start with prompt communication and also informing the particulars of the property. It’s a cottage built by him with a lot of care and attention to detail. There’s live wood and tree trunks used all across. The washrooms were so beautiful with a cave like feel.
Kids absolutely loved it.
We were greeted with freshly baked rosemary bread and also fresh eggs from chickens on the property. (Yes Rik has his own chickens)
He lives very close to the cottage in a hobbit home (which is a must see too)
We also loved exploring the grounds around the cottage and kids did some sledding.
Overall it was a great retreat from the city and we will visit again in summers !
Thanks Rik for your hospitality

My wife and I have been visiting Rik’s cabin for 6 years now and always have a great stay. Rik is a wonderful host, the cabin and area are beautiful, and the entire property has surprises whichever way you go.

We had such a great time staying at this cabin! The host was absolutely awesome and was very helpful! Rik lives on the property but will not bother you. He’s available anytime though if needed. The cabin was absolutely beautiful and you can appreciate the custom work Rik has done in this cabin! Very cozy to the extreme!! Will definitely be coming back for a summer trip!!!

More amazing than the pics show. Very private with unbelievable craftsmanship everywhere you look! A 2nd-floor bathroom with a stone waterfall in it with exterior double doors that open up so you can take in the view while showering! AMAZING!
Rik the owner (and the guy who built the place) is very accommodating and available to solve any issue that might pop up immediately. He also bakes great bread and leaves fresh eggs from his chickens for you!
Our Border Collie and Aussie also loved exploring the many acres of property with us.
We can't wait to go back!

The cabin and tree houses were so cool to explore. They were strange in the best possible way. The location feels very secluded, yet is 10 minutes away from a supermarket and a pharmacy.

We spent a few days in Vermont to take in the Autumn weather and leaves. The property and the area were absolutely beautiful! Rik was incredibly nice and met us when we arrived with homemade bread. You will not have great phone service at the cabin but you do have wifi and the town is only about 10 minutes away. For us, this was perfect to complete a few required tasks while mostly disconnecting. There were abundant hiking opportunities in the area and all were dog friendly. Hoping to return again!

We stayed at this VRBO because we needed a place to land for about a week while our floors are refinished. BUT we needed a place that would welcome our dogs, besides us.
This entire week stay has been more than we could have expected. The cabin is very homey, and yet very very unique.
The location is a close ride to walking trails, local communities, etc., and all within a 40 minute drive home.
Thanks so much Rik and Terri for your hospitality!🐾🙏

Overall amazing experience. Rik communicated very well and provided helpful directions given there is almost no service within several miles of the property. When we arrived he showed us around the home, provided very helpful descriptions and ideas for things to do, and gave us a fresh loaf of bread that was truly amazing (possibly the best bread I've ever had). The pictures do not do this place justice. This was arguably the most unique property I have ever stayed at. The level of detail and creativity Rik put into building this home is nothing short of masterful. I spent a long weekend here with my girlfriend and we loved it. A true getaway from our very busy lives at home. Beautiful scenery in the area for a nice drive or hike, spacious yard and tons of property to explore, nice fire pit setup and some of the best stars I have seen in years. Also, it's about an hour or less from Saratoga and 20 minutes to Dorset which has an amazing bakery and farmers market. Highly recommend this place. Nothing but great things to say about Rik as both a host but more importantly an exemplary human being. I hope to be back in the near future. Thanks Rik!

We love Rik's house. The setting makes you feel that you are in the middle of nowhere, and the house is whimsical and feels enchanted. Lots of pretty places to lounge outside and inside. We will definitely be back.

This is our second time at Rik’s cabin! We highly recommend this peaceful place to all who are wanting a relaxing getaway. This is the kind of place where you’ll find yourself wanting to stay longer when it comes time to leave. The grounds and the cabin itself are all beautiful, making it perfect for a lovely stay!!

We had a wonderful stay here for 2 weeks. It felt very much off the grid since we were surrounded by trees and meadows, but still had wifi, great cooking facilities and air-conditioning. Rik, our host, very kindly provided us with bread and eggs on our arrival and was very helpful with suggestions on local places to visit. He not only built the cabin, which has some great quirky surprise rooms (bathrooms/showers) as well as custom carpentry and stonework, but also has two fabulous treehouses that are rented out, further up the hill from us. In addition, we got to meet Thanksgiving and Christmas, the two friendly turkeys that live on the property as well as the cat who cam and sat outside most days. All in all, a very relaxing vacation in a special place.

Had many unique stays over the years, but this takes the cake!
This place is a piece of art. Fun and peaceful. So much to explore and see. There is a lot here and the rate is a bargain for such unique accommodations and surrounding grounds. I was happy to find out Rik uploads videos about his property and projects on youtube under "Nest in the trees" channel. Thanks for the fun stay Rik!

Best place to stay, ever!!!!
This place is amazing!!!! Rik is an amazing host!!! He is always available to ask questions and to help with everything! He greets you when you arrive and explains everything to you about the house (which is amazing!), the area (which is a great area!), and he also provides you with homemade bread and fresh eggs from his chickens!!! This is an amazing place to stay and is a must if you are planning to visit Vermont! There is so much more to say about the cabin and property, but my words would not do it justice. You need to see and experience it yourself!! Definitely stay here, you WILL NOT be disappointed!!!! We will 100% stay here again! Thank you so much Rik!!!!!!
