Bach 78 Islington Bay Rangitoto Island
Llegar allí;
Saber antes de ir;

This is a beautiful property - like taking a step back in time, in the best possible way. We loved the access to the water and it was fantastic to be able to use sea kayaks straight off the ramp. We were able to anchor our small boat just off the wharf and right in front of the bach also. The cooking and shower is primitive but manageable and part of the charm of staying at a property like this. Rock shoes were the best investment for the kids. Thanks to our great hosts who made sure we had everything we needed.

Step back in time and enjoy how it would have been in a 1940s bach…. Although there is a fridge… enjoy a swim and wharf jump and the sounds of the sea. Great night away with a 3 hour costal walk back to the ferry for family.

Untouched paradise. Great for the soul. Beautiful, peaceful outlook. Watched the rays and fish in the bay, listening to birdsong. Quincy & Steph are wonderful to deal with. Definitely recommend a visit.

We could not have loved our stay more. The batch is gorgeous, so cute and it was sparkling clean. Our hosts were lovely, and really helpful when we needed it. The bay is absolutely beautiful, using the kayaks was a highlight too. Only regret is that we didn't book more nights!

We loved our stay at the Bach on Rangitoto. The cabin was so cute, the location felt really remote and special despite being so close to home (Auckland) and the walks around the island and beaches on Motutapu made for an amazing trip. Thanks to Quincy and Steph for a great stay!

we were very tired when we arrived after minding 3 wee grandaughters for w few days. We walked into the cottage in grey weather and the sanctuary of the old style comfort was perfect.
So many memories of past holidays although we had never stayed here before.
Thank you to the island team of Qunicy and Steph for their input. We had a wonderful time exploring, reading, watching the water and birds and even the very wet walk out along the shorleline track was a positive.
Thank you to those who are maintinaing these cottages and making them available.

Like stepping back in time, such a picturesque location and such a great way to slow down and relax. Simple facilities but everything you need. You can do as much or as little as you like and still get so much out of your stay. The wildlife is beautiful and i will definitely be booking to stay again.

To be able to experience a slice of yesteryear on the doorstep of NZ's largest bustling city is simply quite remarkable. We are very fortunate to have historic gems like Bach 78 so easily available where you can step back in time. Time spent here enriches ones life and is good for the soul. Bach 78 is indeed a treasure/taonga. Needless to stay I thoroughly enjoyed my Sunday to Friday stay - the scenic location and simplicity of it all.
Getting to Islington from Rangitoto Wharf: Can either use the Coastal Track (2 hr 30min) or take the road (1 hr 30min), or get a sea taxi. The coastal track is rocky & rough underfoot especially if laden with heavy packs since you have to carry in all your food and gear. If walking in recommend use the road to Islington Bay its the easier option. Otherwise a sea taxi Auckland direct to Islington Wharf will set you back some $300 for 1-10 people.
There’s a good selection of informative books in the bach. All the rooms have ceiling fitted 12 v lights, but you might consider a head lamp for ease of reading at night.

What a magical little gem! We had such a wonderful stay!

The bach is situated in beautiful Islington Bay. We saw lots of birds, spent 2 days tramping around the island, and enjoyed hanging out in the historic bach. Bring warm clothes in winter as there is no fireplace. It was a 1 1/2 hour hike from Rangitoto wharf, or 2 hours if you take the gorgeous coastal track. The only con was loud banging at night from Islington wharf, where something has come loose. Host was aware and said they were getting that fixed though! Will definitely be back : )

Perfection. Love the location, there is no where else I’d rather stay. Will be back again and again!

Lovely spot! Proximity to Motutapu is great, as very nice day walking to be had over there... never realised they were connected! Had a bit of trouble as had initially booked for 2 people and the booking system isn't particularly clear that there is a per-person charge. Quincy, who looks after the property, is a very nice guy, and knows a lot about the recent history of the island :)

Loved the location and classic kiwi Bach. Nice to get away from everyone! Would love to come back with mates in the summer and crank up the bbq.

We loved this no-frills, old-fashioned bach in peaceful and beautiful Islington Bay. Quincy and Steph were friendly and welcoming. There are many lovely walks to do and it is a balm for the soul to sit reading in the bach in-between walks and swims.

Our stay was magical.
Steph and Quincy were top hosts, ensuring we were comfortable, had everything we needed and advising on great things to do.
The cottage was like a step back in time, delightfully curated with retro furnishings and the location was perfect, right on the water, with great walks to explore all nearby.
Only drawback and no reflection on the hosts, was the noise from the new addition to the old jetty opposite, which bangs during windy days.

We had 2 nights at this glorious location. It was totally mint, a fantastic experience that we'll do again. Great walking, birdlife, fishing - all within stone's throw of the bach. Our hosts were great people and made the experience very chill.

A wonderful classic kiwi Bach - so much to explore, so perfect a setting, with beautiful views, shady spots and a tranquil back (side) garden for BBQs, and wiling away the evening over a drink and a good conversation. Don’t forget a head torch for a late night stroll to listen to the nightlife, and gaze at the stars…

My partner and I had a fantastic stay at this idyllic Bach in early-Autumn. The cute and cozy bach is situated in a gorgeous spot, that is conveniently located for a number of great walks.
The communication was excellent and the on-island hosts were very helpful and friendly.
One tip is to bring a water-treating filter if you think you'll be needing a bunch, otherwise boiling water as you need it works a charm.
Would highly recommend this as an easy getaway!

The most adorable little Bach right on the waters edge. Like stepping back in time into a peaceful, picturesque, and charming environment.
Everything was as expected. Host Quincy dropped by on arrival day to show us around and explain features. Quincy shared a bit of local knowledge with us that just added to all the charm.
1.5 hours approx to the summit. Could only have been better if we stayed longer.

Bach 78 is a very special place to stay! Right on the water it's ideal for swimming and kayaking around Islington Bay, with loads of walks across Rangitoto and Motutapu at your doorstep. It was lovely to see the birdlife doing so well on the islands! A very peaceful and relaxing stay in a unique part of Auckland's history. Thanks Quincy for being an awesome host and letting us see your part of the world for 2 nights, we'll be back again soon!

This bach is fantastic to stay. Being right next to the wharf, we have a fantastic view of the sea and could pop in for a swim whenever. Being right between the Rangitoto and Motutapu made exploration of the islands relatively convenient.
The bach itself is nice and cosy. It was great to have a taste of the olden bach life. It had all amenities we needed. Great to enjoy with a large group of friends :)
