Island Travel Inn

Free underground parking was appreciated since the area is a bit dodgy. We didn't move the car at all during our 2 night stay. Quite pricey considering the standard hotel decor but everything worked, beds were comfortable, sheets clean, hairdryer in the bathroom. It's a big hotel with lots of rooms, they clearly have no trouble filling it. I'd guess redevelopment will happen in a few years, no point in renovating now. We slept well, quiet upper floor room. Good location on main road into town, easy bus ride or walk to Chinatown and Harbour. Lots of restaurants and cafes nearby (great vibe at http://www.deeranddough.ca/) and busy nightlife too.

Unhoused people in the side street and some police and disturbance going on at night but we didn't feel unsafe walking by. Construction across the street starts early on weekdays so be prepared for noise. Check in was effortless and staff didn't mind showing us the room before we paid. They were helpful when addressed but otherwise very disinterested and there was no questions asked when we came back after dinner and there had been a shift change. Bathtub needed a good scrub. Plug-in air fresheners in the hallways which aren't great for people allergic to scents. (covering up cigarette smells?)
