About this cottage rental
Nestled in Clayton, this lovely cottage for $283 per night is a fantastic choice for your next trip. Charming, rustic cottage that sits in a very calm, protected bay with a view of the channel and the ships passing as they slowly go up and down the St. Lawrence River. There are 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with a living room, and sunroom and kitchen. Two of the bedrooms have full/double size beds with TVs in each. The third bedroom has twin beds in it. Each bedroom has air-conditioning for the extremely hot, humid, nights. And there are ceiling fans through out the cottage. (Please note: the ceilings are low in the cottage) The kitchen was redone in the Spring of 2018, with new cabinets, full propane stove, microwave, dishwasher and countertops. The new kitchen allows the chef to prepare and/or clean up, while talking to their quests as they sit in either the living room and/or the sunroom. Never missing out on a conversation. Don't feel like cooking inside....There is a gas grill with a side burner for all your barbecuing needs, with necessary cooking utensils. There is also a nice fire pit for late night fires, ghost stores and s'mores. There is a private floating dock and a large deck to sit and enjoy the view, while you get lost in your dreams. Internet TV is available with guest options. There is a 50" inch TV in the living room and TV in 2 of the bedrooms, There is also WiFi for those who need to stay connected or may need to get some work done while away. Password is provided upon arrival. Cellular service is generally very good. Owners have Verizon service and have never had a problem. Children and pets are welcome, but please contact the owner directly, in regards to the pets. There is a pet fee of $150 per pet The St. Lawrence River offers some of the best fishing in NY State. However, if fishing is not your thing, there are many local shops, wineries, play grounds and Clayton Boat Tours actually runs right out of the same bay. So much to do you will run out of time. Then again, you may just be happy sitting, reading a book and looking at all of the beauty!! Please note: There is a cleaning fee of $250, of which $50 is refundable if the cottage is left in good condition. (Due to COVID 19; the cleaning service requires at least 4 hours to properly clean the cottage and provide the cleanest environment possible. Should you have any questions/concerns, please inquire.) When arrived the pictures look nothing like the ones she has listed ...the GPS took us there but, no road name not outlined at all once arrived, cob webs all over the porch and inside, the shower curtain was really dirty and floors had not been vacuum at all..placemats were filthy and air conditioning in the bedroom with the twin beds didn't work....the wifi didn't work asked owner she didn't know the name of the wifi answered back and still was not sure dishwasher didn't work asked her how to figure that out still didn't answer back..so we checked out left her a list of stuff that the maid was not doing and totally ignored my request...the only thing that was great was the deck and the beautiful view. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend this property to rent unless she gets a different maid service...and stuff fixed..for the amount of money they are asking I would look elsewhere...not happy with this rental at all....

This cottage was absolutely perfect! Darla has everything you could need. The deck and dock space were both amazing and the views just breath taking. The only downside was upon arrival, there were quite a number of spiders both inside and out. Totally understandable given the location on the River. We were able to get rid of the ones inside and had no more issues with them for the remainder of our stay. The cottage may not have had anyone staying in awhile. Still the cottage was beyond what we could have asked for. Darla was very communicative and helpful for where to dock and park our boat and trailer as well. It was a great long weekend and we’ll be back!

Cute cottage at a great spot, perfect views and nice deck! Nice kitchen and cozy living room with a nice tv. On the down side the water system is served by a well. The sinks had low pressure, you cannot drink the tap water, the water had a sulfur smell, and the shower had extremely low pressure, nearly unusable. There is a water cooler provided for drinking (hot and cold). Ceilings and fans are very low, your head will bump the fans if you 5’11” or taller. Lots of spiders inside and out. The washer was out of order when we were there. A sheet with check-out instructions would be helpful to prevent misunderstandings.

Gem Along the St. Lawrence
Great property along the St. Lawrence! Home adjoins a marina where you can literally walk over for local river tours. Spacious deck looks out over the river with a fire pit below next to an available dock. If you'd ever told me what I would enjoy most on a vacation was sitting in the evenings looking out at the water I would not have believed you. I was wrong. Would definitely go back again!

Beautiful Property
We had an amazing stay. The cabin was beautiful, it could use some updating but it sounds like they are going to start doing more work to it. There was plenty of room for the 4 of us and our golden retriever. The Sunsets were breathtaking and I enjoyed going out on the its kayak to watch them. Overall a good experience.

Beautiful views
The property manager was very responsive and met us no problem. The house was a cozy rustic place overlooking the river. The sunroom and deck were lovely. We had a fire in the chiminea the first night and were very happy with the setting on the water. We kayaked and took our canoe out onto the river and fished. Even caught a large mouth bass right near the dock. We had comfortable beds and the air conditioners were a plus in the heat. We had some taller young boys and adults and they had to be careful to not hit heads on the ceiling fans. Otherwise we were happy with the rental.

Rustic cottage with great views
We enjoyed our stay at this place in Clayton. The location was great- central to everything. And the views from the back were gorgeous! The cabin was quaint and clean. The back deck was situated perfectly to catch the last rays of sunlight. The owner was very nice and responsive. Being “pet friendly” was a big bonus for us as well. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend staying there.

Extremely dissatisfied,
When calling to cancel our stay, Darla stated that she would give us 10% off the bill. When asked about the difference, she said 'oh I only meant the balance'. Upon arriving, there were fallen shelves on floor in bedroom, which we cleaned up . Washing machine was broken when arrived, fixed only to have her dog pee on the carpet and pillow on the floor. Was cleaned up by a paper towel. Washing machine broke after a week on 7/30, she said it would be fixed on 8/9. When asked her comment was, 'I have invested an extremely large amount of money into the repair of this machine already and I am going to work with the company I have selected.' My comment 'to wait a week and 1/2 is ridiculous. Also we have spent a lot of money to be here with the expectation that there would be a WORKING washing machine, a clean cottage and drinking water. This is our vacation which has been interrupted with nonsense. Which obviously you don't care about at all'. The cleat fell broke off the dock and was not repaired. There is mold in shower. The camp fell off it's foundation and floor is slanted so much that the sliding door in the living room can't be opened. We had to buy our own water which was not mentioned in the add. The water dispenser button sticks which she knows about. Spider webs on ceiling all over the camp which was noticed on our arrival. Ice cube trays filthy on bottom. When texting about the conditions, Darla's comment 'The fan is unserviceable in bedroom but there was an air conditioner. The bed was not to your liking even though there was another adult bedroom with a firmer mattress and air conditioner.' (The firmer mattress that she is referring to in my text, was a mattress with a date of 6/8/98 with 2 egg shell foam mats on it.).' There was not ONE solid surface where we could put our 'stuff' as there was chachki stuff all over the place.
Her used toothbrushes and toothpaste were in the bathroom, including her clothes and miscellaneous junk. The cottage has extremely low ceilings.
This is absolutely no way for a rental property to be. We rented the place for a month to celebrate my 70th birthday. We could only stand it for less than 3 weeks, due to the mold, mothball and mildew smell of the place. When asked to receive a partial refund, her comment was NO.
I am sending a copy of this letter to the Village of Clayton, NY as it is unhealthy.

Paradise in the 1000 Islands
Everything about the cottage was fantastic. Great location, awesome deck right on the water, and a beautiful view. The private floating dock providing easy access to the river was great. The cottage had all the amenities you need, and the cable TV came in handy on one stormy night. I would definitely stay here again.

UNSAFE CONDITIONS
The positives are location and view.
The negatives are plenty, but foremost was the inadequate electrical system that was unable to support the several electrical space heaters and just about anything else. You could warm bedrooms, and you could warm kitchen and sunroom, but not at the same time. When the bedroom heaters were running, you could not have any other power draw, not even a light, or the breaker for that portion of the cottage would trip.
In addition, there were no smoke detectors nor fire extinguishers.
The next issue that caused problems for us, was the overpowering smell of mothball crystals found in the bottom of the kitchen trash can. One of our party vomited and another developed a migraine that lasted days.
Other negative issues include; though noted as having them in the listing, there was no washer nor dryer. The owner assured us a refund on a pet fee when we decided not to bring the pet, we have not yet received the refund. It’s more than a month since the promise was made. Other negatives could be listed, but these are the ones that make it hard to recommend this as a place to stay, particularly when it is cold enough outside that you want heat on the inside.

Perfect location with a great view
My dad and I went on a fishing trip at the beginning of October and this cottage exceeded all of our expectations. The kitchen and sunroom looked right out into the beautiful st. Lawrence river, it was a perfect setting to wake up with a cup of coffee and watch the big ships pass by. There is a big deck and a nice floating dock where we were able to park the boat that we rented. We had a fantastic weekend and will be back again.

Comfortable home equipped with everything you need; fantastic deck for dining out & watching sunsets; and the WiFi allowed me get some work done (and I'd rather be there than at my desk any day). I would definitely stay again.

Serene and Beautiful Location
We recently spent a few days celebrating a family reunion. My wife and I and 2 of my adult children, with their spouses spent a long weekend at the cottage. The cottage is in a lovely location, right on the river with its own dock. There are 3 bedrooms, and eat-in kitchen, sun room and living room. We spent most of our time in the sun room due to its airiness and beautiful view. The cottage came complete with linens and towels. The kitchen had everything we needed though to be honest we only ate breakfast. Parking is limited to 3 vehicles. I would definitely use again.
