About this cottage rental

Situated in Highlands, this lovely cottage for $364 per night is a great option for your next break. Adirondack Cottage is quaint at its finest. This 2 bedroom/1 bathroom cottage is described by most as "the treehouse" and it won't take you long to find out why. Featuring soaring 20 foot ceilings and flooded with natural light, you'll reside in style while being within walking distance to everything Highlands, NC has to offer. The Location: Adirondack Cottage is located within the Highlands, NC town limits near Harris Lake and behind Mountain Fresh Grocery. This is an area where locals come to walk/jog because it's a on a rare flat loop that is a quick 1/2 mile jaunt to Main Street, where all the shops and restaurants are located. The Property: Upon arrival at the property, guests are greeted by a beautiful grove of Hemlock trees. There is a small parking area that allows for 2 cars and to the left, guests will climb roughly 10 stairs to enter the cottage. Aptly named Adirondack Cottage, it's here, at the top of the stairs where 2 red Adirondack chairs adorn the front porch. The Cabin: A former artist's studio, the cottage will channel your inner creativity. From it's antique windows and cedar shake exterior to the spa-like slate shower, this cozy cabin has big character. It's privatized by the screens of old growth rhododendrons that surround the cottage from all sides, giving it the feel of being in the trees. The interior features soaring 20 foot ceilings, lots of skylights, and wood walls. Unique decor, colorful accents, and attention to detail take the charm to another level. The Layout: From the front porch, guests enter into a big, open L-shaped space with 20 foot ceilings. The kitchen is straight ahead with a small bistro table and the living area to the right. Past the living area, there is a small hallway, complete with built in bookshelves. The bathroom with sizable shower is accessible from the hallway, with the main bedroom being at the end of the hallway. The guest bedroom access is adjacent to the common area, beside the bistro table. The Area: Highlands, NC is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it's quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it's one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world. Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop. The Details: The living room and master bedroom both have flat screen smart TV's and standard cable channels. We also have wifi. All of the bedding is memory foam- we understand everyone has their preference, but we get lots of compliments on our comfy beds. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. This property is pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee. **We cannot be responsible for weather related/ and or personal emergency issues affecting travel. All guests are encouraged to obtain travel insurance.

This small scale home has dramatic upward flourishes (a tower with glass over the living room) and lovely fresh design, which is what attracted me to it. But this is a good cover to some serious maintenance issues. The heat is forced air and the dehumidifier (masking what?) which must be left on (but makes noise) creates a drying atmosphere which can attack even healthy sinuses. The hot water was sporadic, one minute very hot, next minute ice cold. We were grateful that the owner sent a plumber when we complained of our cold showers, but on New Year's Eve, with parts on order, there was no easy fix. Owners gave us half off after suggesting we find another venue, but for 70 year olds who had unpacked and a busy week in Highlands, that just didn't seem viable. So, we toughed it out. We "managed" our showers, one minute, soap up, another minute to rinse. If I had just been hiking, fine, but we had plans for our wedding anniversary and New Years and restaurant reservations every night. Hot water needs to be addressed at this venue and perhaps a different shower control. We brought our own duvets so the bedroom was the place to be cozy, because with all the "upward flourishes" the heat is uneven in the living area. Plus side this cabin is well decorated and cozy with a fine kitchen. Downside, maintenance is not hands on with the basic requirements of a home (hot water and heat) not given the attention needed.

This is our second time staying at Adirondack Cottage and we'll be back again! The cottage is unique, architecturally interesting, containing wonderful accommodations and surprisingly complete with many thoughtful comforts. Great location a few blocks from downtown and easily walkable. Cudos to Kristy and thank you again for providing such a great place for us to enjoy and relax!

Throughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful treehouse cabin with our two golden retrievers! They felt instantly at home and comfortable, as did we! The walk to town is so convenient and we appreciated how quiet and friendly everyone in the surrounding neighborhood was. The bedroom was very comfortable and the shower was very nice! We loved all the beautiful windows throughout the home! Will definitely stay again in the future!

We thorougly enjoyed our stay in the cottage! The space is perfect for a couple staying in the Highlands area. We especially appreciated the fact that we could walk into town most days within 10-15 minutes.

Cottage is a couple of blocks/streets from Main St. in Highlands, NC...down from the local schools and in a community of homes. Private hidden, off-street gravel parking, for vehicle security, plenty of space for two. Short turn staircase up to the living area. Window surrounds for the entry living area, and around the kitchen sides/back counters...all one large room. One bedroom directly off this area and the other larger back bedroom is down the bookshelved hallway, which also leads to the bathroom(not ensuite, which is helpful for two bedroom usage of guests). Larger bedroom has higher ceiling w/ some upper windows for good light..but EARLY light. ;) There is a glass framed door out to a small deck(bench) area, which can be convenient if you do have a pet that is agile enough to make use of this exit without wandering off into the steep hill/shrubs. Our Golden Retriever was good with at least making use of it to relieve herself in the morning light. Otherwise it's best to walk your dog for relief, down the road(and do pick up their mess!). We basically used the kitchen for our breakfast meal and coffee. Easily could use for other meals if that's your choice to cook during your stay. Decent supply of basic kitchenware(and I'm a cook/baker). The bathroom has of course, the basics of a sink and toilet, but the cottage makes use of this room's bluestone tile flooring, to carve out a deep, doorless shower. Nice addition is the "heater" that adds warmth while showering...which we needed, as our visit the temps had dropped that week into the 50's. Our only "hiccup" was that the cottage's HVAC system had developed it's own "cold". Having lived/owned homes long enough, we suspected the problem...and Kristy(owner) was fast in action trying to get it fixed by service people. Unfortunately, their diagnosis wasn't cured while we were there, BUT, as I wrote, WE knew how to drain the issue manually to kick out heat when the system built up to no heat, and its solid running of the fan blowing(cold). The fix is scheduled...so that's the only issue we had with the Adirondack Cottage and would gladly make use of it again. BTW, there were only the two of us renting the cottage. Again, best close to town small cottage rental for comfortable enjoyment.

Coziest cottage tucked into the hills just off Main Street made for a lovely escape from city life! From the natural light pouring in windows, copious amounts of books to read, and the cacophony of nature ringing with windows propped open it was a much needed unplug from the fast pace life we can become accustomed. You won’t regret booking this hideaway in the hills Kristy is very responsive to top it off. Will book again!!

Everything about this cabin is beautiful! The design and decor are perfect! I loved all the windows in the kitchen and how we felt like we were in a treehouse. The decor was so well done and perfectly suited for this cabin.
