About this house rental
Situated in Hamilton Branch, this attractive house for $395 per night is a great choice for your next break. We would like to welcome you to our historic lake-front family cabin. Sit on the deck and enjoy a peaceful view of the lake completely unobstructed and spend time with loved ones on beautiful Lake Almanor! This has been our family's favorite getaway for over 40 years and we would love to share that experience with you. As one of the first cabins ever built on lake Almanor, it was originally constructed as vacation property for the famous Red River Lumber Co. in the 1920's. When our family purchased the property in 1972 it was expanded notably while retaining a majority of the original architecture. The main level has the living room, kitchen and bathroom. Each wall is adorned with windows as well as a sliding glass door to the deck giving you a transparent view of the lake from the comfort of the living room. The upstairs has a large master bedroom and bathroom with separate bathtub and shower as well as lake facing window with an exquisite view. The lower level is accessed by a separate entrance, downstairs from the deck on the main level. It has two bedrooms, one queen and one double bed as well as a shared bathroom with shower. Beds - 1 king and 1 twin daybed with trundle underneath (upstairs), 1 queen and 1 double (lower level) Please feel free to call with any questions, I would be happy to fill you in on any specific details! Please note that at Lake Almanor all of the docks are dry docked during the off season due to fluctuating lake levels. Our dock is typically out sometime during Memorial Day weekend (could be out all weekend and could just get out on that Monday depending on the dock service schedule) and it typically is taken back in in October early or late depending on lake levels and weather conditions. 2021 we were very delayed due to staffing shortages from all service providers around the lake, we are looking forward to a regular schedule again in 2022! so, if you are looking at dates close to those in and out dates please contact me first to make sure it will be out there. We enjoyed a family weekend getaway to this historic cabin with a gorgeous view. There was lots of hiking around and we did some trails but we mostly stayed around the cabin enjoying the view, relaxing, and playing horseshoes. We found everything we needed and had a wonderful time. No doubt this an old cabin that is slightly outdated but it’s clean and comfortable. The host was communicative and welcoming. I want to go again!

The location, views, and lake access were fantastic for our needs however there were some safety concerns. Inside stairs to top floor had no railing on one side and the gas wall heater at the bottom of the stairs posed a danger toddlers. Also, the deck was fantastic for adults buts 2 year old and dog was able to fit between rails so it posed a fall hazard. Stairs to roadside parking were a bit unsteady.
First impression of the place was disappointing as there was trash scattered all over outside. That was probably caused by a bear's access to the trash can. We did see bear scat around the yard. The insde was dusty and the bathrooms only had half rolls of toilet paper. There were not enough towels and washcloths for everyone (example: downstairs had one bathroom that was shared by 2 bedrooms but it only had one towel). The sofa bed on main floor was broken and could not be used. Owner stated he will be replacing that soon.
Despite the deferred maintenance, cleaning, and stocking we did have a great time. The open floorplan on the main level with the deck was great for our multi generational family to gather and enjoy each other's company. We just did not anticipate having to purchase toilet paper, dish soap, towels, shampoo, paper towels, etc. It would have been nice to have some board games or puzzles, etc. like other VRBO places have had for us in the past.

Communication was so quick and easy! Super nice place with private access to the lake, spent 2 weeks there with my family and I wish I could have stayed forever ❤️

We couldn't have been happier with this cabin. It is located at our favorite section of the lake (between Hamilton Branch and Knotty Pines resort) and less than a 10 min boat ride to hanging out in Hamilton Branch. The views from the living room are incredible! We were very grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here and hope to be back!

We spent 5 nights with two families of 4. Plenty of room for all of us adults and 4 teenagers, plus two dogs. The deck is amazing! I especially appreciated the gates on both sides to keep the dogs in when it wasn’t swimming time for them. There are lake views from everywhere in the house!
The house could use some TLC (updating, some general repairs of normal wear and tear for a 40+ year old home). Despite that, it was clean, comfortable, and the lake did not disappoint!
Very quiet area, and Tyler was wonderful to communicate with. Any questions about what the house had before we got there, he was super quick to respond, and if we were looking for something while we were there, same, quick response.
It was a great getaway!

This place was very comfortable and is in a great location. The house faces north so you never get the direct sunlight blasting you in the eyes! The house itself is a bit run down but it had everything we needed to make our stay very enjoyable. I would definately go back! Owner is quick to respond with any questions you may have.

Check in was easy and the house was clean. We had everything we needed to have a good time at the lake. There was a problem with the dock ladder and the owner was quick to respond to my email. We had good internet access and plenty of options for viewing for the smart TVs that were in every room. The house its self is quite old and that is evident from the wear and tear to the exterior and the dock however that was my biggest complaint.

Would definitely stay again if they waved our cleaning fees or something cause we cleaned for an hour when we got there windows and such..

Location couldn’t be better. Beautiful deck, kitchen suited all of my needs which is unusual. Like it states, you do have to go outside and down a flight of stairs to use the other two bedrooms. Could use an upgrade down there for sure. Host was excellent easy to talk to you and get a hold of

This is our 4th year coming to Lake Almanor and this is our favorite spot for sure. The location is perfect...gorgeous 180 degree views, very quiet and great fishing right out in front. We rented a boat one day, hiked, lounged and played in the water from the dock every day. Weather was 70's & 80's. We will be back! Thank you!

We looked forward to our visit to Lake Almanor and this property for 6 months. Our family rearranged their schedules so we could be together. My husband and I arrived first and were heartbroken when we opened the door after climbing down stairs that were literally falling apart to find dirty carpet and a huge broken down dirty sectional couch. The dock to the lake was next to impossible to navigate and we had visions of our little grandchildren breaking their legs to even get to it. We booked a full week here. After spending two nights and 1 day we called our family and told them not to come. You can only imagine our huge disappointment. We left after spending 3 nights.
Let me be clear, we love old homes so that is not the issue. This place is falling apart with very very little upkeep. There are ripped and dirty cushions in the downstairs patio. The downstairs bedrooms are dark and dreary.
The view from the deck is stunning and the deck is nice. The kitchen is well equipped and functional. The property owner, Tyler, was accommodating and available. I wish I was able to write a rave review. I cannot recommend this property at all. I’m sorry.

It was all about the view. The house is very old and in need of TLC. Some of the lights switches have shorts in them and in general the house needs work. The view is awsome and the property owner is real prompt in responding to any question which I appreciate.

Great spot to hang out and have a dock to swim from. As earlier reviews stated this place is dated and needs some TLC but we knew what to expect and had no issues. I would advise those with mobility concerns or very young children to talk to host about the ease of dock access especially when the lake level is low, to know what to expect. Great location with a very attentive and responsive owner. The views are to die for - we lived on the deck and in the great room. It's a little dated, but as long as you don't get hung up on the little things, this house is great! The only concern I'd have, is if I were bringing some older folks. The dock, due to water being low, was a little rough for the grandparents. We had to put the boat on a buoy each night because of the wind and attempt to drop everyone off on the dock. It took some maneuvering, but we made it work. Would I rent again - absolutely!

We truly enjoyed our stay here. The house was in a great location. It has a big deck with a big table and chairs where we spend a lot of time looking over the lake and having dinners. The view is amazing and nothing beats watching the sun rise and set over this beautiful lake. The lawn area is great for playing games and family time. I had read some comments about the house not being clean but when we arrived we found it clean and ready for us to settle in. As with every where it can be hard to find labor to meet everyones needs but thanks to Tyler we didn't have any issues. Going down to the dock can be little tricky with the stairs and the water being so slow right now. All in all we would definitely stay there again. Tyler was very responsive anytime I had questions. Thanks Tyler for letting us share your place and making some great family memories at a place we love.

This is a great location and Tyler was a great communicator. Parking was fine on the street level but I would not suggest going down the driveway unless you have a truck. We did it once and bottomed out. The upper lever of the house was where we stayed and didn't use the lower rooms. You need to go outside, down stairs and then enter the rooms. The stairs to the house need repairing and also the way out to the dock. The mornings are wonderful on the dock and we used it to paddle board with no problems. The house is older and there could be more attention to the up keep and cleaning. More Tp and paper towels on hand would have been great. But, really this is a great location, view and the water are the best!

The location is nice but the house is not clean. Under the deck there was a bunch of trash and dangers in the yard that ended up causing a serious injury to our dog. We were told the dock would be out to tie our boat up to, but there was no dock. Then we were told we would get refunded because of the dock not being out, and that never happened. Overall, we were very disappointed with our experience at this house. We’ve stayed at quite a few VRBO rentals and this was by far the worst one we’ve been to. I recommend finding another place to stay.

I hate to leave a bad review as we had a nice stay. There is love in this home. It’s an amazing view and the location is fantastic. But the house is not clean. There were two drawers I opened that had mouse droppings. The beds had to be made up by us and the mattresses,(except the master) were so badly stained and dirty. The pillows were super stained. The house is just old and loved but dirty. It would not take much to buy new pillows, put mattress protectors mover the stained ones. Really it would not tak much to want us to come back. But it was dirty. Also the steps down to the water are steep and there is no dock. Again we had a good time, but as much as this house has been loved it desperately needs some new love and care. Thank you for our stay, as I said we had a lovely time, but we paid tip dollar for a very run down and unclean space.

Great location! Private, excellent for dogs since large deck is gated on both sides, yard has a great firepit right by the water, views are incredible! But the house itself is very dated and wasn't clean, bed linens were stained, floors were dirty, we encountered spiders, ants & a millipede of some kind, deck furniture & grill were dirty upon arrival and yard area under house was unkept. Once I cleaned it up a bit we had a great time.

Steps to the house need to be replaced, moved when stepped on.

Positives: Our party consisted of 5 adults, one infant and 2 small dogs. The spacious kitchen/living room/dining area was perfect for our family. We slept comfortably in our bedrooms (the one on the top level is lovely!) and had everything we needed. Besides the lake, the outdoor space was wonderful. We not only enjoyed going down to the lake but the grassy area and the large deck were lovely places to spend time as well. Negative: We felt the floor (carpet/tile) of the living and dining area could have been cleaner. And we were a bit nervous going up and down the stairs to the bottom level.All in all, though, it was a great stay and we hope to return.
