This is a quirky little place with themed rooms, so it felt quite different from a typical hotel. It was a bit worn and had a slightly musty smell, but it was clean, the beds were comfortable, and the woman who checked us in was lovely.
The shower unit was wobbly, and the only mirror was in the bathroom, which made getting ready for a wedding a little awkward.
At check-in, I mentioned that we were in the area for a wedding, and the woman kindly reassured us that checkout wasn’t until noon. One friend stayed behind to sleep in while the rest of us went for breakfast. When we returned at 11:30, the cleaning woman seemed very annoyed that we were still there and hurried us out, even though it was well before checkout time. As we were leaving, she admonished us for still being there, despite it being only 10 minutes before noon. That was an uncomfortable end to an otherwise friendly stay.

While it is off the camino, you message them through whatsapp and they pick you up at the Diana the Huntress statue in town. Or maybe they tell you another location. They were there fast and so friendly. The restaurant across the street is delicious and the staff are friendly. The room was comfortable and the shower was great. They drop you back off in the morning to get started on the camino again. Highly recommend staying here.

La Casona de Betanzos – Review
While we appreciated the owner’s willingness to provide transport to and from town, the overall experience fell far short of expectations, especially given the price point of €150 for two nights.
The apartment, though clean, felt neglected. We were left without basic essentials like toiletries, tea, coffee, or milk—a significant oversight with no shops nearby. The self-catering kitchen lacked a kettle and had broken pan handles, while only one pot was provided. The bedroom was uncomfortable, with a thin foam mattress, dated linen, and bedside drawers that couldn’t be opened. The terrace overlooked a busy, uninviting road, and the initial brown tap water was concerning. With just one toilet roll for two people over two days, the provisions were inadequate. The absence of air conditioning made the space uncomfortable in the heat, and the overall design, along with numerous penalty notices, created a rather oppressive atmosphere.
The owner’s initial manner felt unwelcoming, though this improved slightly on the second day. For this standard of accommodation, the cost feels disproportionate, which likely explains why few Camino pilgrims choose to stay. With investment in basic comforts, clearer hospitality, and fairer pricing, this property could offer a far more positive stay.
