About this cabin rental
Located in Puget Sound, this charming cabin for $249 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. We have had a couple inquiries lately mentioning an ad on Craigslist. We don’t do business through any company other than VRBO. Please don’t book through any site other than this one. Our large 6 acre retreat is private, yet has convenient access to I-5 and the nearby tulip fields in Mount Vernon, Washington. Three acres are dedicated to the cabin, pond and surrounding grounds, with our house on the upper three acres. A perfect getaway for small families or a romantic weekend. Most of our guests come back annually and have made staying at our cabin a family tradition for birthdays, anniversaries or other special occasions. Out of respect for our neighbors, we do not offer the cabin as a venue for parties and we stick to our limit of four people. (small groups of short term visitors are fine) Although some of our guests take advantage of our convenient location to all that Skagit Valley has to offer, many come to the cabin and don't leave until their checkout time! The grounds are well landscaped and include a turquoise half-acre pond. The pond is strictly available for our VRBO guests; we only use it on those rare days when the cabin is not booked. We have horseshoes and corn hole for an evening of fun, or sit by the fire pit. You can enjoy a refreshing swim on a warm summer day or fishing when the temperatures cool down. We lose fish in the warmer summer months, so we ask our guests NOT to FISH in June, July, and August. If catching a lot of fish is important to you, we suggest you book elsewhere. We never know how many fish are in the pond due to predators, poor fishing techniques, and hot weather. We just purchased a stand up paddle board for guests to use during the warmer months. Finish the day with a relaxing soak in the hot tub. The home is fully furnished for all of your in home needs and is comfortable for up to four guests. The cabin has a Queen bed and double futon in the upstairs spacious master bedroom as well as a queen sized sofa bed in the living room. The set up is good for one couple or small families, but not ideal for two couples. The only thing you will need to bring is your clothes, a swimsuit, and a steak for the BBQ. We have satellite TV, DVD and wireless internet. (Note: there is no landline phone available.) The kitchen is fully stocked with all appliances, including a griddle, coffee maker, coffee beans and grinder, rice cooker, microwave, electric hot pot, slow cooker, and many spices. As far as personal items, we provide a hair dryer, shampoo, body wash and cream rinse, so you don't even need to pack those. A full sized washer and dryer are available at the cabin for your convenience as well. Firewood for the fire pit is also provided. Please check our calendar for availability so you won't be disappointed! Our weekends book way in advance, so if you want to book for a week long stay, you need to get in your request early. This cabin is one of our favorite among others. Check in and out was a breeze. I’m surprised how it’s well provided with all necessities (and beyond) we would ever need! Well maintained property and a picturesque scenery makes us don’t want to leave. We also do appreciate the beverage gift left for us by property owner. Definitely will come back again.

This is one of the best VRBO places I have stayed! The location is perfect, it’s quiet and a great place to relax, while still being within driving distance of stores and attractions. The home is very well kept, it has everything you could need for your stay, aside from food. The bed is comfortable, there are plenty of towels and linens if you plan to stay for the week, plus there is onsite laundry if needed.
The lake and its turquoise color is serene, it was difficult for me to take my eyes off it from the moment I woke up. Be warned, it is an extreme shock to the body when jumping in as it is very cold, but the hot tub is right there to welcome you when you get out. The dog did not mind the cold water, in fact, spent a good portion of our trip in the lake, he was a sad boy on checkout day.
John and Mary are wonderful hosts and quick to respond. Due to a force of nature, the internet was not working, small snafu, but Mary and John were on it, and though they were unable to rectify the problem, they did make up for it.
I would highly recommend this place, you will not be disappointed!

This cabin was perfect for my husband and myself. We loved the games and spending time on the deck.
The beds, pillows and bedding were all clean and comfy.
The hosts were fast to respond and even let us check in a bit early :) we would stay here again.

What a great trip and great place to stay! My wife and I went to hike the Cascades but wanted to stay in a town that had restaurants and breweries so we chose Mount Vernon! This quiet, cozy little cabin exceeded our expectations. We were impressed with how clean and secluded it was. The hot tub was a must after long days of hiking! Thank you for a successful stay a once in a lifetime trip!

This is a very special property. It’s even prettier than the photos. The pond is more like a small lake and is gorgeous. There is nothing rustic about the cabin. The owners have paid attention to every detail and provided everything necessary to have fun and comfort. Book it. You won’t be disappointed.

This cabin is great for getting away from it all and just relaxing. It has a secluded feel that is still close enough to town if you need something. We brought our two labs along and they were either swimming, exploring the grounds, or sleeping from all the fun they were having. We had a campfire in the fire pit almost every night and even made a stew over the fire one day.
John and Mary were so accommodating. They provide so many little things to make your stay easier. We had such a great time, we hope to make it back next year.

This was exactly what our family was looking for… a place to be together, have fun, relax and laugh. All without having to leave our canine family member, Rosie the Labrador, behind! I’m so grateful for places like this that allow us to make vacation memories that include her. This was a very comfortable cabin with tons of thoughtful details that helped to make our time there so fun. Puzzles, games (inside and out), extra blankets and towels, dog bowls (we forgot ours!) and poop bags. Super comfy bed! Beautiful deck! Helpful notes and hints! :) Wonderful, top to bottom, inside and out.

Back again after our first stay two years ago. This place remains the same in a great way! We got to make more memories thanks to John and Mary. They accommodate everything that you would need for your stay which is so helpful in relaxing and spending more time in the awesome swimming hole and hot tub. This cabin is so worth it and I'm looking forward to coming back here in the future.

My family and I had a wonderful time here. Super private, clean, and lovely. Groceries are close by, and easy getting to and from Anacortes for hiking and beach time. We cooked most of our meals here and made great use of the BBQ grill. The Hot tub was also fantastic to relax, and look at the starry sky! John and Mary are great hosts :) you will not be disappointed with this gem of a property!

If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful getaway, this place takes all of that to the next level. Waking up each morning to a slight breeze through the tree and birds humming and chirping was magical.

Mary and John do such an amazing job to give their guests an amazing getaway. The pictures dont do this cabin justice, it was even more beautiful in person. Our dogs had a blast, as did my husband and I. We will be back!

I stayed for 4 nights with my husband and two dogs, we initially had plans to explore and visit all around Washington as we stayed there, but as we pulled up, we immediately looked at one another and said we weren’t going anywhere. We bought a lot of groceries at the cutest store down the road with a ton of local products and just enjoyed the most peaceful scenery and sounds. Hosts were wonderful and kind, left great information all around the home so that we didn’t have any questions. Super clean, bed is very comfortable, they provided so many fun things for the cabin’s pond. I will be returning again and again!

I took my 86 yr old dad (w onset dementia and a permanent bladder catheter), my Shepard and his Pomeranian. At home, dad takes alot of naps. I'm always trying to get him up and moving. He usually declines if I suggest a getaway however I convinced him this time. We live 3 hours away and the traffic was horrible,however, the stress went away as soon as we drove in the driveway.Dad was in charge of the fire pit. He really enjoyed sitting by it and he actually sat on the paddleboard with me in the pond! This was an awesome memory for us.I truly appreciate that John and Mary have been so gracious to share their property. It is very special and the check in process from start to end was seamless.Thank you for everything!

Gorgeous property, easy to get to, and better than the pictures. The cabin itself is very well maintained and has every you need. The back deck is awesome and hot tub is great, too! The pond is beautiful and boy there are some big trout in there! Feeding them and watching them jump was a lot of fun. We never left the property during our stay and totally relaxed. Our 1-year old golden retriever had the time of his life. We also enjoyed using the paddle board too! Quite a lot of nature at your back door. Deer, ducks, fish, and other birds were everywhere. Would definitely recommend and we look forward to visiting again in the future.

My husband and I stayed at the cabin with our small dog for a long weekend. The property is beautiful and very peaceful. It is about 20 minutes out of the downtown area so it was very quiet, which we loved. The cabin had everything we needed and was well stocked. We would definitely come again!

We had a wonderful time staying at John and Mary's beautiful cabin. The cabin is very home-like and even though it is close to main house you truly felt like you were secluded in the mountains. We would highly recommend this cabin to anyone, and we will definitely be back!!

My family and I came here without expectations and all of us were blown away when we saw the cabin and the lake. It is warm, cozy, completely stocked with everything you might need, and then some!. John and Mary were very communicative and even left a little present for us in the fridge! We were able to make so much memories at this place ... I taught my kids how to fish, we actually caught a rainbow trout and they were stoked!. This also meant a lot to us since our dog will not be with us for much longer, our little furry daughter was very happy running around and sniffing everywhere and found a cool warm spot near the stove to chill.

Very clean and well maintained cabin in a beautiful and peaceful setting. Owners were very responsive when some of our electricity went out in the kitchen one evening. They responded quickly and came to fix the problem . This is the second time we have stayed there and we would definitely stay there again.

We stayed here last year for my birthday weekend and I told my husband I would like to stay again this year for my birthday. Life has been stressful and draining these past few months, and there is no better place than the Big Lake Cabin. I wanted to do nothing and that's exactly what we did. We were able to relax, be lazy, and enjoy the peace and beauty this place offers. John and Mary are awesome host and make you feel right at home. Thank you for another memorable birthday!
