Situated in Newbury, this charming house for $235 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Kick back and relax in a waterfront chalet that combines cottage charm and modern amenities. Built in 2004, the house is on the sunny northern side of Chalk Pond, a pristine, 21-acre lake in Newbury, NH. Enjoy the waterside from your private floating dock with fishing (NH license required age 16+) and swimming, or canoe/kayak over to the tiny island in the middle of the Pond. No powered craft are allowed on Chalk Pond; one full-size canoe, two single kayaks and life jackets are provided with the house. You also have access to the homeowner's association private sandy beach, basketball court, tennis courts and newly updated playground. I apologize in advance for my shaky camera work. Enjoy the beauty of nature without leaving the yard: listing photos show the turtles, chipmunks and duck families that visit daily. From the dock, watching the movement of the ever-changing water and its light reflected in a canopy of trees is mesmerizing and restful. From our front door, it's a five minute walk to the Stoney Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can hike two different trails through a beautiful 362-acre preserve. Watch for moose, deer, flying squirrels, even porcupines! Take a 15-minute drive to Mt. Sunapee Harbor, Mt. Sunapee Ski Resort, or the quaint town of New London which has great shopping, restaurants and a summer stock theater. Central air conditioning keeps everyone comfy all summer long. The master bedroom has a queen bed and private deck, the second bedroom has one twin and one full bed. The downstairs den has a TV and queen futon. The full deck off the living room offers a tranquil view of the water and features deck furniture and a gas grill. Finished walk-out basement has two futon chairs and TV; great place for kids and teens to hang out. Wood paneling, hand-painted stencils, wall quilts and country decor give the house a comfortable, rustic feel. It's scrupulously clean and complimented by modern conveniences not all cottages have: completely equipped kitchen with brand-new appliances, dishwasher, two full baths, full-sized new washer and dryer and Wi-Fi access, internet speed has been upgraded to be the fastest available in the area. We provide off-street parking for up to 3 cars: Newbury strictly prohibits on-street parking in front of the house at any time. To read our positive guest reviews, scroll down on this page. From warm summer days and cool summer nights to spectacular fall foliage and crystal clear water, let our home at Chalk Pond be your choice for a restful getaway. Please note that for Fall 2024, the seasonal floating dock will be removed after Columbus Day weekend and will not be put back in the Pond until the following spring. (Waited too long one year and an early cold snap found us chopping the dock out of the iced-over Pond, yikes!) Guests staying after that date can still launch kayaks and canoe from our waterfront. Great location if you like outdoor activities including hiking, biking, swimming, kayaking, and tennis. We were fortunate to have great weather with one rainy day that was filled with reading and games. Marybeth (the host) was amazing providing all the details and bring available for any questions.

Location was spectacular, couldn't have asked for a better place. House was as listed with awesome amenities, such as canoe, kayak and more. My family and i had a great get together, especially coming from a long distance to meet up (Colorado). Homeowner was exceptional, and answered all questions as they arose quickly.
Chalk Pond is perfect for a family vacation, it is quiet and relaxing.

We loved our stay on Chalk Pond. It’s a beautiful setting with a lovely view. We spent much time sitting near the water and using the canoe, kayaks, and tubes on the water. The house is great. It suited our family group of 7 well. Plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen is well stocked. We prepared many meals in it. The beds were comfortable. It is a relaxing and peaceful home and setting. We loved the location, close to hikes, and other attractions. We would love to stay here again.

Fresh & clean…especially the kitchen & bathrooms! The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils, pans, bakeware & appliances we needed. Empty cupboards were convenient for our groceries. Very nice Weber grill located on the covered deck made for fabulous steaks even during the rainstorm. Canoe & kayaks on the beautiful, peaceful pond were fun! The big dining table gave us ample room for family dinners as well as board games. Host communicates promptly and courteously.

If you’re looking for quiet, this is your place. Secluded in the woods and on a beautiful pond, we enjoyed our stay. If you’re looking for other things to do on a vacation, you’ll need to do at least a 40 minute drive but otherwise, it was great.

MaryBeth was a perfect host, she provided us with directions, restaurant options, even told us about a concert on the harbor. The house was amazing, extremely clean and had all the amenities we needed. The view from the decks off the living room and master bedroom were breathtaking. We enjoyed sipping our coffee in the morning and then a nice glass of wine in the evening on the deck overlooking Chalk Pond. During the day we spent our time down at the dock fishing, kayaking, swimming, etc. We were looking for a quiet relaxing vacation and that is one hundred percent what we got. I highly recommend this property

Summer Vacation
We had an amazing time!!! It was very relaxing! The property was clean and well maintained. We loved the beach and the tennis courts as well. Marybeth was a sweetheart! We hope to return!

Great for large family with teens
We had a wonderful week! It was our second year staying on chalk pond and we loved it! We spent more time playing cards than planned due to rain but it was still fun. We were able to spend a few afternoons floating off the dock, kayaking and fishing!

Peaceful
This chalet was accurately depicted in it's listing. For the price you can't beat being right on the water! House was clean and views were peaceful. We loved having access to a canoe and kayaks. Even in the chill of April it was great to get out on the water with our little ones. The house was comfortable for our family. We chose to bring our own sheets and towels to avoid having to wash and fold laundry on check-out day... this would have been way too hectic while trying to pack and watch our 2 and 4 year olds. If you check out on a day other than Saturday you will need to take your garbage with you. Overall, Marybeth was great to work with and responsive when I had questions while we were there. We would love to come back in the summer!

Waterfront, peak fall season colors, super clean well-appointed home. What more can you ask for?! We really enjoyed our stay and the owner was super friendly and helpful. Great location to make day trips to the coast, Conway Scenic Train, Sunapee, and Nubble Lighthouse & yummy Fox's Lobster House! Would rent again in a heartbeat!

This house has a fantastic view of mountains and pond at the backyard. House was comfortable for 5 adults and a kid. We took the canoe and went for boating in the pond. The views were amazing from the pond. Will definitely recommend for friends and I would prefer to come in future.

Chalk Pond rental
The cottage was spotlessly clean, attractively decorated, and was equipped with everything I wanted, all in excellent condition. I needed to get in contact with Marybeth once, and she responded promptly and solved my problem. There are 17 (or thereabouts) steps from the parking area to the house and more steps down to the pond, so that is something that someone who has difficulty with steps should be aware of.

Perfect week!
The property was exactly as we expected! We had a fantastic week! From the start the communication was fantastic. The house was clean and as described. The pond was wonderful for fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and floating! Even our teenager asked to go back next year!

I really cannot say enough good things about staying here! The pictures do not do it justice! The space was perfect for our family of 5. Everyone was comfortable.
This was my first time doing VRBO and the standard was set very high. The space was very clean and had everything we needed. Marybeth was available for questions and was super quick to respond. She was so kind and provided us with so much information prior to our trip to help us prepare and a closing checkout list the day before we left.
The house was right off the pond and my kids loved going out with their fishing nets to try and catch creatures! We used the kayak and canoe and spent a few days on the pond beach. The area had plenty to do and nothing was too far.
