Totally exceeded our expectations. Seclusion, wildlife, scenery, first class accommodation. Wish we could stay longer!

My sister was visiting from California. We rented Waynes cabin with three other friends. Five women! We had a wonderful time. We took advantage of all the cabin and property had to offer. Saunas. Firepit at night with s'mores. Kayaking. Hiking. Fires in the evening in the cabin. The mornings are extraordinary if you like to get up early. The mist oen the lake combined with the wildlife waking up is breathtaking. The lake is delightful for kayaking and canoeing. My grandfather owned 100 acres in northern Ontario and this place took me back to my childhood and the wonder and awe of natures simplicity. You never have to leave the property but if you do, it is very close to both Haliburton and Minden. The area is rich with artists studios and galleries. This cabin is not to be missed! Oh, and the chipmunks (fondly chippies) will keep a smile on your face as they dash across the deck in their search for acorns. Truly a place to let go of the everyday stresses and just be in the moment.

My wife and I (all g with our two dogs) stayed at Wayne's cabin this past week and it was like staying in our very own slice of heaven. We had a great time and the property is just amazing. As other a have said, I'd recommend having a 4x4 and then the drive is just fun! We will be staying here again. We both cannot say enough about this cabin.

My husband and I had a lovely time during our 10-day stay at the cabin. It was comfortable and well-apportioned. We loved the wood stove on the cold and rainy days, and we got lots of exercise hiking the property! Wayne was a gracious host and we are eternally grateful that he shared his cabin with us.

We both agree that the advertisement for Claypack Lake cannot prepare you for the absolutely therapeutic tranquility you will experience. First of all, Wayne's one hour to 90 minute “tour” of his family's cabin sets the tone for your stay with his gentle respect and awe for not only their home away from home but also the nature surrounding their home. The first thing Wayne helps you notice is the quiet. For a solid week all we heard was wind, birds, and water. (unless we used the CD player – and talk about good taste in music!) Before we arrived we had planned to drive into Haliburton (only about 15-20 minutes away) to see a movie or go to dinner, once at the cabin we didn't want to leave – so we made sure we had everything we could want so that we didn't need to leave. We hiked, swam, fished, cooked, played cards, read, used the sauna (wonderful!), showered in the outside shower (how freeing). Being alone with just the two of us and NO distractions was rejuevenating. This vacation, different from any we have taken before was just what the doctor ordered. Anthony even noticed his breathing slowed. We slept through the night (unusual for me) on the very comfortable queen size mattress. Speaking of comfort: the furniture and attention to detail throughout the cabin speaks to nothing but relaxation. Although I was personally dreading the outhouse (and bears), the overwhelming peace we felt at the cabin overrode any fears. The outhouse was actually the best outhouse we've ever used........with again - attention to detail. :) and we never witnessed a bear (pawprints – yes; the actual animal – no) The respect shown to guests is evident when you realize the personal belongings left behind by the family. Mi casa es su casa (My house is your house) is the overall feeling you have while at the cabin at Claypack Lake. Thank you, Wayne, for the grape preserves – delicious – even more so after we met and spoke with the couple who makes the preserves. You obviously attract warm, generous, trusting people. Thank you for trusting us with your home; we highly recommend this experience, which will be difficult to duplicate anywhere else.

Theres nothing I could possibly say that could describe being able to stay in such a natural setting within a 6 hour drive from home. My wife and I have been to quite alot of northern camps, private cottages, and this one ..by far was the best place we have been ..very relaxing. Wayne surely knows his stuff when it comes to making you feel right at home , from the beginning tour to the wild grape preserve, and the awesome maple sirup everything was perfect and really i can only thank wayne for renting out such an awesome plot of nature and keeping things simple.

It was our first time to the Claypack cabin and we were met by Wayne when we arrived. He gave us a review of the amenities and walked us around the property for our initial orientation. The cottage had everything we needed, from kitchen to bedroom. The dock was the perfect place for our morning coffee, afternoon sunbathe or simply relaxing with a good book. In the daytime we hiked the trails, took the canoe out and spent quite a bit of time fishing which was excellent. The campfire is a "MUST" in the evening with all the firewood you could ever use. The night sky was beautiful offering excellent stars stargazing! We walked the trails every morning with our boxer dog "Nuna". We think she loved the place as much as we did! The peacefulness in the morning was amazing with the occasional loon greeting us. We have never been to an up north getaway that was so private though it is only a 15-20 minutes drive to Haliburton for a top up of supplies. Thanks Wayne for the wild berry jam, it was delicious along with your maple syrup we brought back with us. Wayne has put his heart and soul into the cabin as it felt like home and not simply an "income property". Thanks for a great “away from it all” experience and hope to be back again next year. Rented for a week in July . 4 people total - 2 adults, 2 children. A wonderful escape - the boys had a super time exploring the woods, canoeing and kayaking, and ofcourse lots of fishing. We have never caight so many fish in one week! Be prepared for remote wilderness, and we recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get in and out of the property. If you are wanting to do alot of swimming this property is not for you - it is my only complaint. The lake is shallow and muddy. We had campfires, hikes and shelter building competitions! A fox visited us right on the deck every evening. Phesants trucking quietly up and down the trail to the cabin was majestic to see. The cabin itself is very clean, well equipped and functional. Although it sleeps 6 I don't recommend more than the 4 we had. The outdoor shower was a hit with all of us. I saw more stars at night than at any other cottage I have ever rented. Outdoor bathroom was only an issue for the kids at night but we managed just fine. Although it was the hottest week of the summer, we were always cool at the cabin. The washroom faciclities were clean and comfy (for an outhouse!) Lots to see and do in the area. Kids loved visiting the Haliburton Wolf Centre. Wayne was always available to us if we needed something and the perfect "hands off" host. We will definately return to this hidden wilderness oasis! We were glad that we decided not to take our dogs at the last minute because there were lots of animals around at night!
