The property exceeded our expectations. The layout of the main house and guest house is perfect, the beds are comfortable and the outdoor furniture and pool was awesome. The home is located in a lovely neighborhood full of wonder residents. The climate was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed our 4 weeks in Costa Rica with a property manager (Eunice) that responded swiftly to any need which was raised during our stay. Three sets of friends and family joined us during the stay and the guest house was perfect! Eunice went above and beyond by providing a crib for our 15-month old grandson!!
The property is well manicured and maintained with housekeeping, ground maintenance and pool cleaning weekly. The house was cleaned weekly and we were delighted with the results!
The property and neighborhood have beautiful flora and wildlife. A pair of Tucans visited almost daily and the resident Iguanas were a treat. We even saw a pair of white faced monkeys in the trees near the entrance to the neighborhood. During Jan, the flowering trees and shrubs are ever changing and beautiful and winds helped to create the perfect environment and temperature.
We walked to the town of Atenas several times to grab a pastry from the numerous bakeries and stop by Smoothie Queen for the best Aqua Sandia ever!! It’s really not that hard of a walk back up the hill to the property!
We absolutely loved our stay and would highly recommend this property!

We arrived at the property very late in the evening and were not sure what to expect since our gps took us through some interesting back roads, but we found the property to be even more beautiful than the pictures had described. The property managers were very quick to respond to any questions or needs that we had. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was well appointed, and the view was amazing. We would have loved to stay much longer than our three nights.

If you need a peaceful get-away where you can Work From Home, this place is perfect. You can tuck the kids into the guest house, which has two bedrooms, and the main house has plenty of room in the downstairs for relaxing for the family. The internet is strong enough to work anywhere in the main house or on the veranda. The house location in a small gated group of homes is on a mountain ridge 45 minutes from the capital, the it is a 10 minute drive to town, where there is a large and modern grocery store. The house's kitchen has everything you need. The master bedroom upstairs is like living in a tree house. Toucans, hummingbirds, and iguanas will keep you smiling, and a dip in the pool when you can "flee the office" is a nice diversion. We didn't leave the property, except for groceries - the home was exactly what we needed - quiet, attractive, excellent internet, and a lovely change from our regular fast-paced world.

I can’t say enough good things about this property.
First of all, it is gorgeous. Love the bamboo, love the vegetation all around and it’s built beautifully.
Plenty of towels available, and Eunice was so responsive and amazing, as was Christian.
The only thing I would say was a drawback was the internet but that being said, being so high up and in such a secluded area probably contributed to that (plus it was nice to disconnect for a couple of days).
Highly recommend!

Great views!!!
My family and our friends stayed at this property in July. Where to start. One thing is that I made a mistake of putting in the search site 5 adults and 3 kids, when the 3 kids are teenagers. This place is made for only 6 people, so a couple of the teenagers had to sleep on couch and loungers. Also in the description we thought we had a heated pool by solar. The pool is NOT heated. Please be aware when booking this. Since it gets down in the 60s at night, even in the summer. The pool is very cold. So none of our group got to enjoy the pool or the sauna/hot tub. Yes, the hot tub/sauna is NOT heated. The views from the place are amazing and the place had pretty much everything that we needed. The wifi was awful, so if you need to work while there. Don't plan on it!!! Plus if you have kids that can't live without wifi, plan on hearing a lot of complaining. We tried everything, but it was a no go. The location was good to get to town for shopping and other site seeing options. We enjoyed all the restaurants we went to around there. The only way we would ever go back to this house, is if the pool was heated and we had a smaller group and better wifi reception.

We had a small issue with connecting with Eunice/Christian on the day of arrival but it was not a major issue.
First, all the good things about this spectacular mountain retreat. Pica Flora is a small gated community. Casa Blais itself is really a very neat place. The main house has an amazing lower floor with a wrap around porch with gorgeous hardwood furniture. The view to the east and south is treat, day and night.
The main floor sitting room and kitchen are great. The second floor has a single bedroom with windows on three sides and a bath behind with a jacuzzi and shower stall. The main house is for a couple. It is meant to be and a great space. The view from the bedroom is also heavenly. We did not use the guest house but the rooms are clean, spacious and each with a bath.
Now to the most amazing moment of our stay; on the second day, we saw clouds rolling into the valley and we literally watched clouds rolling into the yard. We stood in the clouds.!! We have been above the clouds before but never IN the clouds. Chalk that up as a once in a lifetime experience.
We enjoyed our daily walks at least 2, to Atenas. It is a nice town and we enjoyed exploring including walking all the way to the Farmers Market. The walk back is hot and sweaty as it is all up hill so we took a $4 can back each time. The trips down are just over 2 .2 km.
We did our walks early and later afternoon as the sun and the heat are a bit strong middle part of the day. All in all, we enjoyed our days and Pica Flora and the Casa were an amazing experience. The wildlife is not on overwhelming side but the iguanas in the yard are great. Everywhere in CR will have a few ants but we are not bothered by them.
Now the hard part; the WIND!!! If you go in the windy season, you will NOT sleep. The windows are not weather proofed and the wind howls at nigh, That and bamboo trees and drains smacking around create a unique orchestra that is part drums, part chimes and part whistles.
The wind kept us up and it also impaired our ability to sit outside for evening dinners. Another side effect is that the wind drives a lot of dust into the house through the loose windows. We had to do a lot of wiping down.
Given all of that, we would recommend this property with the strong caution that you avoid the windy season if that can be done.
Lastly, the house could use a touch of TLC like replacing missing screens etc. But it is clean and well appointed.

The main house is well laid out. The two bedrooms in the Casita are quite small and the lack of air conditioning was an issue because the strong winds blew the curtain shades around all night long. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals. The walk to downtown Atenas is 45 minutes. The taxi rides to restaurants in the area was 4 or $5. It was very warm and windy when we were there the last week of February. The pool was nice to cool us down. The yard is very brown in the dry season. We enjoyed our stay and Eunice took very good care of us, but we would not recommend the house to our friends because the noise from different parts of the house banging because of the wind at night.

I was very excited about this rental, since the pictures of the house intrigued me and indeed the architecture of this house is wonderful, it just needs some TLC.
We arrived at night, which is unsettling, since you don't know what is around you. The caretaker forgot we were coming, so we contacted Eunice (the owner's local agent) and she was able to drive right over with keys. She was always available to answer questions for us and the caretaker (Geronimo) did help us with an outside ant infestation quickly. The people who are working with the renters are very nice and helpful. The panoramic views from the house and yard are amazing!
Regarding the TLC, the house was not as clean as we had hoped, cooking pans and utensils are in bad shape and the toaster is rusty.
There are some large iguanas that live on the house and in the yard, which we were fine with. The first night one of them scratched at the roof over our bed all night.
We also noticed a large insect and arachnid population near and in the house. Ants were living in the master bedroom's jets in the tub. My husband tried to clear them out of the jets, but the next few days we would still see some in there. My daughter's room in the guest house had a daily trail of tiny ants going from the bathroom sink up the wall.
We battled other bugs daily, but on our last night we lived our own Little Shop of Horrors. Granted, we are from the U.S. Midwest, and are not used to such large spiders, but we arrived home to see a very large spider sitting in the middle of the living room. Once my husband took care of it, my adult children went out to their guest house and started screaming. Not only was there an identical large spider in front of my daughter's door there was a type of tarantula, almost the size of an adult hand, sitting on my son's door. Once those spiders were taken care of by my husband, we walked into my daughter's room and found a scorpion inside. Needless to say, our 24 year-old daughter slept with us in the main house that night. My son toughed it out in the guest house.
We did love the town of Atenas and the people that we met there (Take the El Toledo Coffee tour!). The gated community that the house is in, was also very nice. Unfortunately, because of the bug/spider issues that we had, and the lack of cleanliness, we wouldn't rent this house again.
As for Costa Rica, we loved it! We went on to another house near Quepos and had a spectacular time.

This is a beautiful property with spectacular views. We spent many hours relaxing on the porches in the perfect Atenas climate soaking in our surroundings. It was windy though, especially at night, during our stay. I can't give a 5 star review because it is a noisy house in the wind and we did not sleep well while staying here. There are bamboo poles as part of the gutter/drainage system. These are unsecured and knock around in the wind - loud enough to wake us throughout the night. We did see an occasional large spider and ants on the property as a recent review noted, but never inside the main house or guest house. I expect some "wildlife" in Costa Rica, so this didn't bother us. Eunice - the property manager - was very helpful in arranging our initial transportation from the airport and quickly responded whenever we had any questions. I do recommend having her arrange for an airport pickup as the property would have been difficult to find on our own especially in the dark. I then had a rental car delivered to the property on the following morning through Vamos Car Rental - they don't charge very much additional for delivery to Atenas and were good to work with.

Spectacular Views
We very much enjoyed our stay in Atenas . The house is located very close to the town which makes running the errands a breeze. It is very spacious and was as described in the listing although we didn't realize (our mistake) that the other building where two of the bedrooms are located was not attached to the main house. The views of the surrounding area are spectacular and the pool was nice on some of those warmer afternoons.
Eunice and Geronimo (gardener) were very nice and quick to address any of the issues we faced during our stay (all minor stuff).
Only real negative comment about the house has to do with various items (e.g. kitchen utensils) that are a bit dated and could be replaced and a few other things that need to be fixed (freezer door, dinning room chair, etc.)

Beautiful property
We had an amazing time in Costa Rica and at this gorgeous home. We really enjoyed hanging out at the house, cooking and relaxing on the picturesque patio. The view of the mountains is breathtaking. If you are an early riser the sunrise in the morning is a thing of beauty. You can walk to town from this home but it is a bit of a haul. Not a lot of negatives other than the freezer door was a bit problematic. All in all a great place to stay.

Outstanding home and view! Comfortable bed and great master bathroom! Clean and great patios!
We enjoyed staying here immensely. The neighborhood is close to Atenas and safe. The garden was beautiful and patios were delightful to sit out on and enjoy wine and our meals. BBQ was clean and functional. Great place to stay!

Beautiful getaway
We had such a wonderful time at this beautiful home. The serenity of the home, the neighborhood and surrounding area were just what we needed. Christian and Geronimo were never more than a text, email or phone call away for any questions. Would highly recommend this home and will certainly come back again!

Perfect home for a relaxing stay in Atenas
We 4 women had a wonderful time at the Casa de Blais in Atenas. The main house is gorgeous with beautiful furniture and decorating. We loved seeing Toucans and other amazing birds in the trees right off the outside porch and had iguanas in the yard! The kitchen was well furnished with utensils and Costa Rican coffee. Eunice, Andrew and Geronimo gave us help and information so quickly when requested. Thanks for the use of this amazing home.

Beautiful house and view
Great first impression arriving at the house. Beautiful master bedroom upstairs in the main house with large bathtub and separate shower. Blinds on all windows for those who like to sleep in.
The pool was great although not heated. With the house being at higher elevation with cooler temperatures it won’t get warm. Our kids loved it anyway and were swimming everyday.
The casita has 2 separate bedrooms which is nice as you can have some privacy in the main house.
Overall very nice place to stay in a very secure, beautiful location. I Would definitely recommend this place and would certainly not hesitate to stay there again.

Beautiful house; beautiful location
We booked Casa Blais for a family reunion with people travelling from Canada, Scotland and Finland and we were not disappointed. The house is situated on a ridge above Atenas and has beautiful views across the valley. The house is well equipped and spacious with one bedroom located in the main house and 2 located in the casita. All were spacious with ensuite bathrrooms.
During our stay we did several day trips and used Oscar as our driver. Oscar is amazing with a broad knowledge of all things Costa Rican.
During our stay the weather was perfect and we could see why Atenas is rated as having the best climate in the world by National Geographic.
We hope to return in the not too distant future
