About this house rental
Nestled in Smallwood, this attractive house for $374 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. Two-story cottage perched on a hill overlooking Mountain Lake in the hamlet of Smallwood, town of Bethel. Reclaimed wood throughout this new custom home with modern-rustic charm and top-notch amenities. Come relax and enjoy the picturesque view. The house is perched on a hill among the trees overlooking Mountain Lake in Smallwood. Stone stairs from the drive wind down to the yard and front door. The first floor consists of the kitchen, dining room, half bath and living room with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the lake. Both the kitchen and bathroom have radiant heated flooring, a toasty treat during the fall and winter months. The kitchen is well stocked with all cooking necessities and features stainless appliances including a convection oven, microwave, and dishwasher. The living room opens onto the deck that faces west and is the best spot to take in the sun setting over the lake. The centerpiece of the first floor is the sun drenched staircase made of reclaimed wood. All of the trim within the house is reclaimed lumber from the original summer cottage on the property. The cottage proved too far gone to save but was deconstructed board by board and given a new life inside. Upstairs is the full bathroom also with radiant heated flooring and a skylight, two large bedrooms, and laundry room . Each bedroom has a queen sized bed and space to sneak away with a good book or tablet for those who can’t unplug - no judgment - we had WiFi before running water. This is the last house on a dead end road so there is zero traffic. The property is heavily wooded and very quiet. The abundant trees make for excellent bird watching. We have spotted eagles, three species of wood peckers, hummingbirds, ducks, and geese. At the moment, I think we are the only rental house in Smallwood that has a true EV charging station. It's a 240 volt charger at the top of the stone stairs at the parking spot. The house is best for one or two couples. All sheets towels, blankets, and pillows, are provided as well as a HE washer and dryer. The lake below our house is a private lake for members only. Our preferred swimming spots are the Toronto Reservoir and Lake Superior, both about 3 miles from the house. Guests have full access to the house. We are available by phone and email during the stay. This is our weekend home. We live in downtown Brooklyn. We front Mountain Lake in the hamlet of Smallwood, township of Bethel. There is a sweet little water fall and forest reserve just a short walk from the house. We are also near to Bethel Woods, Kiamesha Lake and the surrounding Catskills villages. A bus comes direct from Port Authority in Manhattan to the bus terminal in Monticello. It's about 8 miles to the house and there are usually taxi cabs at the station when you arrive. We recommend coming with a car, however. We hope you love our home as much as we do.

This property was great for a group of friends to have a short, calm Catskills weekend! Loved the porch and windows facing the lake and trees around the property, and was impressed by the lichen and the book showing Scott and Eli’s process to build the property.

My husband and I had a great time in Smallwood. The house is beautiful and well maintained. The perfect getaway place for a small group of people. Eli was very responsive to all of our questions. If we ever go back to the Catskills we would definitely rent this house again.

The property is well maintained and decorated nicely. It’s both comfortable and cozy. Good location and the deck is great for watching sunset or sunrise. There is no AC but I was there for heatwave and it was fine. I recommend walking around the lake, going to the private beach and eating at any of the restaurants on Horseshoe Lake Rd. Highly recommend this place, it’s beautiful and well stocked with anything you may need for stay.

The house was amazing. This is a property that was built with love and care, and you can tell that the owners are proud of every inch of it. The views from the porch are wonderful and there is a sense of calm in every room. If you’re looking for a place where you can just be, this is it.

This well-maintained, perfectly appointed home was the perfect place for a summer getaway for my husband, son, and myself. They are avid fishermen and enjoyed the lake and surrounding streams. I enjoyed the cleanliness of the house and peacefulness of the lake. Perfect hosts. Not a single complaint.

We had the most perfect fall, weekend getaway! Eli and Scott's home was simply perfect for a weekend getaway. The house was charming and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking in the well-stocked and organized kitchen. Coffee on the terrace with a view of the lake and fall foliage was a highlight, as well as talking around the fire pit under the full moon. The house was meticulously clean, and had the comforts of a real home. The setting was beautiful, and centrally located to explore the surrounding area. Ten stars!!

Beautiful, Immaculate & Well Appointed!
The home is updated, immaculate and enjoys beautiful views from the master, living room and deck. It's a perfect jumping off place to enjoy the area - or just hang out in. The hosts bent over backwards to make sure everything was perfect and responded immediately to questions. We didn't take full advantage of the home's amazingly well appointed kitchen or fire pit and deck (rain) on this visit - but I would definitely stay here again.

Excellent Stay
Had a great family weekend at this home. The space is very well designed and stocked better than almost any rental I’ve ever stayed at. Really appreciated having everything I needed to cook meals and make coffee. It was also really warm and cozy throughout the winter squall that passed through. Plus our kids got a kick out of seeing all the deer roam past the house.

Excellent getaway
This is an extremely well designed and maintained property with many great features (outdoor eating areas, fire pit, barbecue, etc). It is also close to some great hiking trails and overlooks a wonderful small lake. Scott and Eli were very accommodating, excellent hosts. I would strongly recommend this to anyone in the area looking for a calm, peaceful retreat.

The ideal getaway
My friends and I absolutely loved this house. We hiked during the day and spent evenings making meals and enjoying the lake view and the fire pit. We found that the house had everything we needed - and more - and the aesthetic was refined and comfortable at the same time and Scott and Eli were super responsive and even brought us firewood to use. Couldn’t have had a better experience!

Dressers needed
We've used rentals thru VRBO many, many times. I rated 4 stars with excellent reviews because of just one thing. Dressers were desperately needed. The two bedrooms in this beautiful little cottage were roomy enough to add one more piece of furniture. We had nothing to unpack into. The few drawers that were there were filled with the owners things. One dresser in each room please. Other than that, the place was just perfect. Clean as a whistle. The kitchen was fully loaded including such thins as condiments and some odd ball canned foods. Very comfortable in a beautiful area. We spent a nice weekend in the area from which my Husband grew up, for the Woodstock 50 reunion. Had a blast, and the cottage was perfect.

Quiet and comfortable with beautiful views. Deer amble through unperturbed by humans. Pileated woodpeckers visit for the birding enthusiasts. Landscaping must be by Elves. Rock work very impressive. Our complements! Just what we were looking for on our 50th Anniversary reunion.

Wonderful stay in Smallwood!
This is one of the nicest homes we have stayed in, it is in a lovely location and was perfect for our needs. The home is beautiful inside and out with a wonderful view. Do not be alarmed by the fact there is no air conditioning, we were there at one of the hottest times of the year and the house stayed nice and cool with the help of ceiling fans. The kitchen is nicely equipped with everything you need. The well water had a bit of a sulfur smell, but we cooked with bottled water so it was not a problem. Oh, and don't forget a hair dryer if you need one, there isn't one provided. Our hosts Scott and Eli were kind and communicative and we would not hesitate to stay here again. HIGHLY recommended!!
