Impressive house. I'm pretty sure it wasn't built with 9 1/2 baths but all the bedrooms had an en-suite that looked circa 1900. The piano room was so fancy, it was immediately declared "off limits " to all children. The salon was perfect for Christmas morning with 9 grandchildren. The library was "the" place to cozy with a book and had a considerable selection at hand. The Dining room sat 12 at the big table plus 2 highchairs plus 4 at the small table and had a massive chandelier. The kitchen had plenty of space and equipment to handle our party plus. The 2nd floor's 4 bedrooms positively swallowed the 8 adults in period ornate furniture and chandeliers. We even had a spare bedroom on the 3rd floor after putting 6 grandchildren in the 3 "double singles rooms. My sister, who didn't stay with us, voted the left over room's bath her favorite of the house. The chandeliers and woodwork, my favorite is the 3' square table in the servant's quarters, leave a lasting impression I'm sure the whole party will remember this occasion and most importantly MeMere blew out all 9 large candles.

While the house was amazing, I would only recommend staying here if you are not hosting an event. After tons of research my fiancé and I chose the Pines as our wedding venue. We were not given a contract until one month before the event. This was after I was informed that I need to get a generator, a porta potty, and 2 parking attendants. All of which were not discussed in the months prior and all at our own expense. I was also told one month is not short notice for these requirements. He informed us of some personal issues he was dealing with and that was the cause of the delay. We were extremely disappointed in the lack of communication and transparency. We felt we shouldn’t have even been able to book if the host wasn’t able to fit it into his schedule. And it definitely should not have been brought up less than a month from our wedding. During our stay we felt watched the entire time as he lives right across the street, and he had people dropping deliveries off the day before the wedding. The host cares way too much about this property to be renting it out on VRBO. For paying over $7,000 for just the event fee alone you get NOTHING besides being able to stand outside in the grass (not even to go to bathroom). We unfortunately won’t be back due to all the headaches we had to deal with. Which is very disappointing as all the other reviews are great. We also didn’t get our event security deposit back until 2 months after the event. Lisa was very kind and helpful during/after

This property is meticulously maintained and the love that clearly goes into it's restoration shows. The property manager Lisa Wales us through each room of the Pines sharing it's stories past and about all of the remarkable work Jorge has put into each and every beautiful detail of this house. My now wife and I wanted a quiet, intimate wedding "ceremony" and the Pines offered a perfect oasis for the chaos of life. From gorgeous views of the area driving up to the nights spent stargazing with practically zero light pollution there is no shortage of breathtaking moments when you choose to stay at The Pines. We highly recommend!

Family and friends gathered over a three-day autumn weekend. We filled the house, using nine bedrooms to accommodate 18 people. Everyone was amazed at the grandeur of the home and the comfort and space of the rooms (including plentiful hot water for everyone in the mornings!). We gathered for informal breakfasts in the kitchen and splendid dinners in the dining room. The pantry held plenty of formal dishes and glassware as well as all the cooking, roasting, and baking dishes we needed. It is a truly special place.

My friends and I were in town for a wedding and had a wonderful stay at the Pines. Beautiful property, and Lisa was great to communicate with. Highly recommend for large groups!

Spending a weekend at this Victorian house was truly a dream come true! The house is beautifully decorated and impeccably restored, but with modern comforts. It was like staying at a museum, but with the warmth of home.
It rained for much of our stay, so we didn’t really get to enjoy the grounds or surrounding neighborhood, but we didn’t mind at all - it was the perfect place to spend a rainy day! The house is perfect for an intimate gathering with many rooms for people to congregate and everything one might need to cook and serve. We would absolutely love to stay here again.

All the niceties one could wish for. Gorgeous grounds.

This was a perfect place for our family getaway. The house has large comfortable bedrooms with attached bathrooms and spacious common areas for people to hang out and enjoy. The kitchen is well equipped and has everything one could need. The house overall is very charming and the grounds are well maintained with beautiful landscaping.

This place is like a museum! Absolutely gorgeous and magnificent. Was fantastic for a family gathering, especially with the set-up like a hotel with en-suite bathrooms for all bedrooms. The grounds are also fabulously landscaped, and there is a magical firepit in the backyard.

We had a great time - group of 9 adults , place is enormous and well appointed . Fridge is huge and unique. Property manager added to character and was very warm. Little town adorable and other larger towns accessible by car. Definitely friendly ghosts.

Our group of 9 adults loved our stay. The house is remarkable, even more beautiful than the pictures. We thoroughly enjoyed the time at The Pines and highly recommend it. Lisa met us when we arrived to give us tour of the house along with an overview of its history. She provided us recommendations for dinner and made the reservations for us. She was very responsive prior and during our stay.

This house is really incredible. Perfect place for our group of 19 family members. We cooked both nights in the fantastically appointed kitchen and ate like royalty at the long table in the formal dining room.
The market around the corner (Peck's) has everything you didn't bring (or everything you need). The lawn was perfect for us to set up and enjoy badmitten.
Check in included a really fun tour of the house and property with some stories and history.
Highly recommend.

It could not have been more perfect. The hosts were welcoming, friendly and responsive. The home was exquisite and it was fun learning about the history. It was like a museum but at the same time comfortable and provided the perfect environment for our family celebration.

The house is incredibly unique and interesting. Our group really enjoyed exploring it as well as the town. Would definitely recommend and we plan on visiting again.

There are not enough words I can think of to describe this insanely immaculate mansion. It is basically a museum. If you are a fan of the game Clue, you will feel you have just entered the house that the game is based on. Or if you are a fan of Scott Fitzgerald, you will be transported into The Great Gatsby. Not one of our 20 guests who came to the house did not drop their mouths and simply become speechless when they first entered The Pines. The photos on VRBO are great but they simply cannot do this place justice. The more you know about old homes and classic furniture, the more blown away you will be.
Jorge was very nice and he apparently is an engineer who restored and maintains much of this house himself. Unfortunately, he was out of town during our stay so we never met him but he has a very knowledgeable local associate named Lisa who gave us a tour and was on call at all times in case we had any needs or questions. Lisa is a local who knows every business and every person in town, and we took her advice on ordering some takeout lunch at the local Mexican restaurant which was very good. The rest of the time, we cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner in the catering-level kitchen. There is an old 3 door ice box that was converted into a refrigerator, and it is the biggest fridge you've ever seen in a home. I brought a bunch of coolers with ice for no reason. There are 3 ovens and a huge viking stove and a large outdoor propane grill. If you want to cook for a crowd, this is the place for you.
My guests all asked me if we were going to go hiking and other things like that, but in the end, nobody ever wanted to leave the grounds. There are acres of land to walk around in, including a wonderful cemetery adjacent to the house which everyone really enjoyed visiting. I guess you have to be the kind of people who enjoy walking around in cemeteries, but that's us. But we also played outdoor games all day, including a kickball game of kids versus adults. It is that kind of spectacular environment at The Pines that makes you want to do extraordinary things.
There was am unexpected spring heatwave up to 90 degrees one day, and the house stayed cool, with split unit AC's in the kitchen and all the bedrooms. What more can I say? Every one of our guests wants to return. Some of them have not yet turned 50 yet (This event was for my wife's 50th birthday), so if I am lucky maybe one of them will invite me back to The Pines for their own party.

The house is absolutely stunning, and the hosts are very responsive. We hosted a large dinner for friends and found that the kitchen had everything we might possibly need (stand mixers, cuisinarts, pans, etc) to prepare a multi-course meal. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and hope to come back again soon for a repeat.

The house was beautiful and accurately described. The host was responsive. Beds are super comfortable. The kitchen is well-appointed. Awesome dining room table to spend time together. It was beautifully decorated for the holidays. We would definitely stay again. It would be a great couples getaway in addition to a family get away. It would be great in warmer weather especially to take advantage of the beautiful porches. The towns around the area were great to visit.... awesome hiking trails nearby and a great place to run as well.

The Pines is absolutely amazing. Jorge and his team have curated a truly amazing property that is perfect for large groups. The common spaces are all ornate and well suited for intimate gatherings. The kitchen has all the tools you might need. The photos don't do it justice, the house is amazing. Overall a perfect venue and next time I need a place to gather for a celebration I would happily stay at The Pines again.

We moved our family’s annual Thanksgiving retreat to The Pines this year, and the house accommodated our needs quite well. Jorge (host) was very responsive to the unfortunate shut down of the boiler on Thanksgiving Day. We are definitely considering coming back again next year.

This house was stunning and so well cared for. Jorge was very communicative and gave us a full history on the property which we enjoyed. It was the perfect backdrop for our team retreat, and there was ample room for nine of us. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and more. Hard to describe how wonderful this place is. We didn’t want to leave!

The property is spectacular in every way. Pine Plains is the cutest little town and The Pines is it's highlight! Jorge the property manager and owner was a delight...so easy to work with, informed, kind and easygoing. We had everything we needed, the property was impeccable and made all of us so happy. Oppulent living quarters with many rooms for privacy and many rooms and fabuloous outdoor spaces for large gathering. Conveniences were all accessible by foot and the house was incredibly equipped with EVERYTHING! We loved every minute and can't wait to return!

Echoing many of the other reviews, the Pines is even more spectacular in person than the photos show. Entering into the home is like taking a step back to another era in the best way possible. Kitchen + dining is stocked for whatever you would want to cook. The various sitting rooms (in particular the library) are comfortable and great for groups. All the bedrooms (even the smaller ones) are great. Lastly the grounds and porches are well appointed and should not be missed.
Jorge is a great host and it is clear how much he cares for the property. If you are on the fence, just book it, you won’t regret it!

We had a 60th birthday party at the house and it was perfect. Everyone loved it, the kitchen equipment and, dishes and glasses were ample for our large group. We had fun hiking in the area. It was perfect. I highly recommend it for a special occasion.

I and a group of friends spent our second marvelous stay at The Pines this August. Jorge and Eileen Yajure are perfect hosts, always kind and responsive, and the house is ideal for large groups like ours. Beautiful rooms and grounds and amenities that include the furnished covered porches, grand piano, impressive library, and en suite bedrooms, make it a pleasure. Duchess County itself is a discovery with lots to enjoy. We are coming to think of The Pines as “our place,” and everyone looks forward to returning next year.

We rented this property for our entire Bridal Party to stay the weekend of our wedding, and everything was absolutely perfect to accommodate a large group!! The house was perfectly preserved, and Jorge was extremely communicative and helpful. If we have a large group coming to stay in the area again, we would definitely recommend staying here!

Congratulations! If you are reading this review, then that means you have had the good fortune of discovering The Pines. As a designer by trade, I was looking for a very special venue to host a group of seventeen of my most discerning, creative friends for a milestone birthday party, and boy oh boy did The Pines deliver. This place is truly one of the most exquisite, elegant, beautiful homes I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. The house and grounds are even more beautiful in person than the listing let's on, and that is really saying something. The estate is the stuff of fantasy, a Gilded Age backdrop that graciously accommodated a weekend of twenty-first century merriment. As someone who loves to cook and entertain, the meticulously well-appointed kitchen, pantry, butler's pantry, dining room, dining terrace, and outdoor porches provided everything we needed to pull off two informal cocktail hours, a backyard barbecue, brunch, an afternoon tea lawn party picnic, and a formal sit-down dinner with ease. The interiors and furnishings are period and grand, but there is nothing stuffy about the house. The house accommodated the guests to freely mingle in intimate clusters or to come together as a full group in a relaxed, natural flow. The comfy side porch with ceiling fans, and cozy library with perfectly curated collection of eclectic titles were two of our favorite spaces. The ample guest rooms, each with a private bath, were little sanctuaries where guests would retreat and relax between group activities. Many of us spent the afternoon just lounging on the lawn or strolling through the beautiful historic cemetery adjacent to the property that could have been set directed by Edward Gorey. All this said, the cherry on the cake of this experience are the property owners. Their care and stewardship of this historic property is evident in their commitment to the house's restoration, with no detail being overlooked. Jorge and his wife are charming hosts. He greeted us with the most fascinating history of the estate, and we found ourselves repeating the anecdotes over and over again throughout the weekend. As a group of artists, designers, film and theater makers, we were obsessed with the attention to details. (Jorge, if you are reading this, we all want to know more about your historic light fixture collection!) I could go on and on with accolades for The Pines, but one word sums it up perfectly - magical.

Amazing - just as advertised
We had 16 folks here from including teens and adults for a birthday weekend of old friends, and it was the perfect property. Everyone had their own bathrooms and privacy even with the shared bathroom. The property and house is exactly as advertised and wonderfully maintained. We ate all our meals here and we had everything we needed. The big porch was where we spent all our time and it was perfect! Great communication with Jorge throughout the process!
