About this cottage rental
Come make Ka Hale Malie (the peaceful house) your own tropical cottage! Located 500 Ft from the ocean cliffs as the crow flies but not on the ocean. It is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park in Keaau, HI which is centrally located to visit Volcano, Pahoa, and the new black sand beaches of lower Puna (Pohoiki).
The little cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed that has sliding doors to the back lanai (porch) for you to enjoy your coffee or your candlelight dinner. A bathroom with a (purified) rainwater shower. A fully outfitted kitchen with gas stove, full refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker, blender, new PFAS-free "green" pots and pans and a variety of items for cooking. The attached living room has a vintage rattan couch and chair, a TV, Roku streaming device, a DVD player, and WIFI.
The house also has a front lanai (porch) with a table and chairs and a back lanai with an outdoor rattan couch, a table and chairs for dining, 2 bar stools and some "party lights" for nighttime ambiance. The best hang out spot may be the covered carport which has been transformed into an outdoor rec room/tiki bar complete with tables and chairs, a BBQ with charcoal and a charcoal starter (uses newspaper, not lighter fluid, and gets coals going fast), and coolers you may use during your stay.
The cottage is the only property on the 1/4 acre lot to give you privacy. Most days, and especially eves you can hear the crash of the waves on the cliffs, less than 500' away. Within a 5-10 minute walk is the beautiful coastline area where you can take a few chairs (I provide the portable ones in the bag-located under the tiki bar), a few beverages and watch the sky and the ocean. During the humpback whale season you can see and hear whales. Rainbows over the ocean are a common event!

There are also a few masks, snorkels and fins; beach towels, paddle ball, frisbee, etc. for your use during your stay. If you want an island tour of any size/duration, I can recommend a great tour guide!
The cottage is small; one dog only allowed with prior approval. All dog poops need to be removed from the property by you (the transfer station is close by) and no damage can be incurred. The property is not fenced.

Perfect place and great location! Kelly was quick to respond to any questions. The cottage was very clean, quaint, and had everything we needed, including a full kitchen and laundry.We especially appreciated the covered porch — listening to the rain, waves, and nature’s nighttime symphony; enjoying morning coffee alongside colorful geckos and birds; and taking in the beautiful yard and foliage. It was amazing to be surrounded by nature, in the jungle and near the sea. As expected in a tropical setting, we did see a bug or two, mostly outside, they just quickly scurried away since they weren’t thrilled to see us either :).The rental was so welcoming and inviting, we ended up spending more time there than we originally planned. Everything worked well in terms of cooking, sleeping, enjoying the setting, especially how it is more of a "tamed jungle" environment. The bird sounds were great, the insect sounds were quite loud at first but we got accustomed to them.

Love the cottage and booked for the second year in a row this time for twice as long. Unfortunately, Host did not provide code and was unreachable for 24 hours. VRBO was not helpful. Host refunded some of the cost but VRBO says they can’t because their system is down. I expect them to refund me the service fee since they provided no service. I doubt I will trust them again.
