Spacious Lakefront Home for Large Groups, 2 Acres, Central AC, Kayaks, Boat Dock
About this house rental
Located in Cayuga Lake, this lovely house for $630 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. This home with waterfront is perfect for family reunions, extended families, or just large groups of friends! The east side location provides plenty of sunshine and awesome sunsets. There is a large two acre grassy lawn for kids to play and no neighbors on either side near the house. Since the yard is very spacious, you do have to walk approximately 100 yards (length of a football field) down the gently sloping property to the beach. The property gets more narrow towards the beach area where cottages get closer together. A stone driveway to drive to the water for people who can't walk this distance is located on the side of the property and cuts across the lawn near the waterfront. It is also used as a driveway/lane for cottages directly on the water. Kids can run and play, fly a kite, adults can have a volleyball game, play hoops, roast marsh-mellows, have a picnic, and take part in all kinds of water activities. Inside, there is plenty of space to hang out together in the living room or family room. The dining room table seats 10 and table in the adjacent kitchen seats 6. Just outside the dining room is the deck which can seat 5 more or so. Many folks enjoy the piano room where they have singalongs with the family. There are also lots of nooks and crannies in the home where you could enjoy some quiet time away from the group. Of course, you could also do a little sunning at the beach while listening to the lapping waves, hang out on the new spacious deck there or relax in the lawn under one of the large shade trees. The beach is all small flat rocks(shale) and has a deck and 45 foot dock. There are some stairs (approx. 20) from the lawn to the beach area. The new deck is about 1/3 the way down from the lawn. The water is very clean and there are no weeds in this area. It's crystal clear and you can easily see the bottom. It's a nice gradual walk out into the water and is about three feet deep at the end of the dock, which is great for kids- no drop offs. There are two kayaks with life-jackets for your use. For extremely large groups, we also own another home a short walk away with three bedrooms and sleeps 10 that you can inquire about. Auburn is only a quick drive (a few miles)away, so it is very convenient for shopping, restaurants, parks, etc. There are many things to do in the area depending on your interests.

We had a very good time at this property! The house fits the description but has a few drawbacks included it has a small waterfront (if you want to go in the water, you need water shoes!) that is not immediately adjacent to the property. The yard is great and the owner is great to work with, very flexible and responds quickly! Five stars for the owner. Unfortunately the house is showing its age/ use with many things in poor condition including some of the mattresses and roll out beds and deck stairs. It also was not as clean as we would have preferred with dirt and dust around and under many items when moved.
We had a great weekend and the area is nice to enjoy, but keep in mind that it is a rental property and not in pristine condition. Would consider to stay again, but temper expectations!

We were able to have all three families stay together. There were plenty of space for us to be together (and apart if desired), and the large yard was fun for the kids. They went fishing and kayaked at the beach. We had a terrific time.

We had 8 adults and 10 children. Had a great time with plenty of room. The yard between the house and the lake was a playground for the kids. We really enjoyed our stay.

We had a great time. The house was clean and neat. The walk to the lake was a little long due to my surgery and my sons illness. But a golf cart fixed that for us. Had plenty af room and was very comfortable.

We had a great time staying at Christine's lake cottage. It was big enough for our large group of adults and children. The proximity to the lake and the large back yard were perfect for daytime activities with kids. Christine was a gracious host and immediately responsive when a couple of small issues arose. We would definitely consider visiting again!

My partner and I wanted to bring our families together and we couldn't have asked for a better space! We were able to comfortably fit 16 adults and took full advantage of the large deck by the dock. We also definitely appreciated that there was a good amount of parking space- even fit a small rv!

We had a great time at the lake house. We were a little disappointed that the outdoor picnic table was unusable but other than that it was a great experience.
I would finitely recommend this

My friend group was extremely impressed with this house and the owner was very kind! I would stay here again! We appreciated the big yard for outdoor games!

Very spacious house with lots of beds and was super comfortable for a large group of friends. Everything was well stocked with towels, sheets, kitchen supplies, etc. Plus great AC. Walk to beach was longer than I thought. Had to cross a small street and between neighbors lawns but overall easy beach access.

Nice property with plenty of space for our group to spread out and sleep, eat etc.

Nice place. Very, very roomy. Compare it to a beach cottage. Beautiful view of lake. Thought we were right on lake, but about 150 yd walk. Not too bad. Def served our purpose. They're for State Hockey camp in Skaneateles. 100 times better than hotel !!! Possibly book again next year !!

This is our second time staying at this property. It’s a great layout with lots of room for our families. The house has everything you need, a beautiful dock on the lake, and easy proximity to town. Hosts are very helpful and accommodating!

We had a great weekend. It was my sons 40th birthday weekend and we had both friends and family staying. There were 16 adults and 5 children, all were very satisfied with the sleeping arrangements. All beds we’re comfortable with plenty of room in the whole house. There were a couple of things to look out for. One I believe was brought up in a previous review. The stairs from the upper deck at the house are a little precarious. The steps lean forward on the way down and the rungs could be wider. Everyone felt like it was an accident waiting to happen. Also most of not all adults thought that washing the bedding was a little much. Some of us brought our own bedding so we wouldn’t have to do laundry before leaving. There are some things in the binder that need to be updated, check in/check out for instance. Overall we all had a wonderful time.

We had 15 people stay at the house. We all slept comfortably. Lots of space to socialize with the family. A great house for the price.

This was a wonderful spot for our family reunion. Large kitchen and dining table, lots of gathering spaces. 2 Bedrooms with bathroom on the main floor (where kitchen, dining room, deck, and main sitting room are) were ideal for older family members with limited mobility. Front entrance on has a couple steps, though most of us used back entrance where cars are parked, which has steps that could be hard for some.

This is a lovely house. There were 15 of us, from 5 -75 years. Plenty of room both inside and out. We enjoyed swimming in the crystal clear lake, kayaking (2 provided, with oars and PFDs), grilling, making s'mores at the fire pit, playing frisbee and other games in the yard, having coffee on the deck in the morning and watching the sunsets at night, Having a dishwasher with that many folks was a real plus (washer and dryer, too). And there were lots and lots of towels! The 5 year old said it was the best family vacation EVER!

This rental is run down and hasn’t had a good cleaning in a long time. If you look at the fan blades it’s enough to make you wonder where your cleaning fee is going.
I am mostly willing to not dwell on this except for the fact that there are aspects of this house that are outright dangerous for all ages.
The VRBO listing says the beach is “great for kids,” but the problem is that the stairway to get down to the beach is insanely dangerous. The stairs are at a serious tilt and there is only one hand rail. On numerous stairs there are no less than six to eight nails holding together a very precarious situation. The stairs sagged and strained under the weight of an average adult going up them. They were unsafe and need to be repaired ASAP. Upon reviewing the listing (which I should have done in more detail prior to renting) there were major concerns starting in 2019 about the stairs. To not have rectified this situation for 3 years is inexcusable. The deck down from the main house is also very difficult for children to navigate with only one handrail and stairs that sagged under the weight of a normal adult.
The beach pictures listed show that the beach area is generous and the dock is solid. The beach is very small (only about the size of the 3 chairs in the photo) and the rest is actually the neighbor’s property. The dock is sagging and not stable. We did not feel comfortable docking our rental boat on it overnight and had to return to the marina daily. The photos on this VRBO listing are at least 5-10 years old as compared to what you will actually find.
The location of the house is excellent in between Auburn and Skeanateles, but the listing is very deceiving for what you will find when you arrive. For the price of this listing you’re better off to go somewhere else.

This house handled well our group of 8 adults and 9 kids. The large yard was great for the kids to play in. The house was well equipped with necessities. The owner was very responsive. We enjoyed our stay.

OK house in a great location
My extended family, ranging in age from 6 months to 68 years, recently stayed in this house, which suited our needs fairly well.
The good:
- Location: it's an easy drive to the picturesque towns of Auburn and Skaneateles, with good grocery stores and recreational shopping.
- Lake access: Owasco lake was clean and pleasantly warm. The shore falls away gradually, so our young kids could wade around in the water without too much worry.
- Size: The house had plenty of rooms/bathrooms, and comfortably accommodated our family. There was a large yard with plenty of space for the kids
The not-so-good:
- Although the property seemed safe and sanitary, it's not especially well cared for (peeling paint, clouded windows, water damaged ceiling tiles), and somewhat cluttered (broken fans in the rooms, spare mattresses stacked in the hallways).
- AC on the third floor (with two bedrooms) was barely adequate. The window units are only able to provide cooling for eight hours a day, which was just adequate for sleeping, but not for 24 hour climate control. This wasn't a major issue since we had mild weather, but it would have been unpleasant in hot weather.
- The stairs to the dock are in poor condition (significantly uneven, only have a railing on one side). The dock is serviceable, and the lake itself is lovely, but the property's beach is not the most inviting place to spend time (no afternoon shade, minimal space/seating)
- The property requires guests to wash, dry, and fold all sheets/towels before checkout, which is time-consuming for large parties. I don't think I've ever stayed at a rental (especially one that charges a cleaning fee) that required me to do the laundry.
Overall, if you're looking for a place to eat and sleep that can serve as a base for enjoying a wonderful region, this house will probably meet your needs, and the photos give an accurate impression of the place. If you're hoping for a house that's something of a draw in itself, with charming touches and hotel-like levels of comfort, you should probably consider another property.

Harriet Tubman - Ski weekend
We had a wonderful time. The house was comfortable for our size group. Beautiful view from the dining room. The girls loved the pink "princess room" on the top floor. Christine thank you for sending back the wallet. (she would NOT accept $$ for shipping it back) We will definitely be back!
Thank you,
Crystal

Our gathering was fun, plenty of space. Everything was good, except the smoke detectors weren’t working, and there was a faulty deadbolt and very loose back door handle that held the lock.. if they fix those two things it will be fine.

The house was very nice and actually worked out really well for our needs with number of rooms and bathrooms. The issue was that we picked the house because it was on a lake but the lake was entirely unusable while we were there. There had been a lot of rain shortly before our stay, which is no ones fault but it did mean that there was no useable beach space. We also couldn't access the dock because the owner's husband had covered it with fallen trees to prevent it from floating away which made it unsafe for our kids to walk on. The house itself sits way back from the lake so you don't even really get a lake view. We were also told by a neighbor that there were dangerous algae blooms in the water so we shouldn't allow our children to swim in it. This was disappointing to the kids who had been promised swim time. Over all the house was nice, the location was nice but I wouldn't rent this property if you're actually looking for a lake home.

This cottage offers a comfortable setting with a lot of flexibility. It's a little tricky actually getting to the lake and it's a bit tight when you get there but that appears to be standard for this lake. There is a great view of the lake from the house! Overall a great stay. The actual make- up of the beds didn't match the descriptions so we had to do a few room assignment adjustments but there are cots and a pack n play available also so it was very easy to do. My granddaughter was thrilled with all of the wonderful books and toys available to play with. The owner was super easy to contact and very helpful!

Spacious, but not the best
The house and yard were big and could accommodate a lot of people which was great. We unfortunately didn't pay close attention to the check-in and check-out times when we booked which was our fault, but a 7pm check-in time is super late. We realized why it was such a late check-in and check-out when we were told it was required that we washed all of our own sheets and towels and then needed to fold them and put them back on the beds. It took a VERY long time and it really is not sanitary to rely on guests to properly do that. Expectation about doing laundry should be mentioned in the listing. It should also be mentioned that no paper products or soap will be provided. Again, to rely on the guest to not only wash all of the laundry, but to also provide the detergent to do so is odd. The house has some obvious wear to it, not all of the doors locked properly and the back stairs to the deck and house and the stairs to the lake aren’t to code and are quite dangerous. I wouldn’t stay there again.

The house and yard are big good for our group of 6 adults and 5 kids. It was great having two refrigerators and the washer and dryer. The dishwasher , stove, microwave, and coffee maker work well. The upstairs living room with the TV had plenty of seating. The bedrooms were good ,plenty of choices.

Great yard with volleyball net and room for a family kickball game. The house isn't fancy but suits our needs.

We enjoyed our stay at this property. We had 8 adults and 2 children stay in this very clean 6-bedroom home. All of us weren't there for the entire stay, but we were all always comfortable in this roomy home. The house doesn't look that big from the street view; however, there was plenty of room inside - a nice living room, another family room on the lower level, the dining room with a table that fit the 10 of us, and a nice size kitchen. It was also fun having a piano in the house. Although the house is a bit back from the lake you can view the water from the dining room windows, the kitchen window and the deck outside of the dining room. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of hot water for showers. There aren't neighbors on either side of the house so there is a nice feeling of privacy around the house and the large lawn area. Down at the lake the houses are closer together. The neighbors we met down by the water were very friendly. The beach area is a bit small, but we set up additional beach chairs on the dock that extends into crystal clear Owasco lake. The lake is shallow in this area so we had plenty of room to have water squirt gun "fights" with our adult children and grandchildren. We had a minor issue that Christine and her husband took care of as soon as I had contacted her. They are very nice people who made sure we were enjoying our stay. We would stay at this property again.

Large expansive house is great for large families. The first-floor entry from the huge back lawn and the nearby beach opens into a combination room with room to hang life jackets and floaties; a kids playroom, a fridge good for cold beverages, and a large load washer drier . This opens to multiple bedrooms, a half bath, and an entertainment area. going up the stairs to the main floor, you enter a nicely appointed, large kitchen, a dining room with table that seats 10 or more, a full bath, 2 bedrooms, and a music room with a standing piano. This place is big! Full central air on the first two floors makes the inevitable 90+ days livable. Also lots of room to spread out if you run into a rainy day. Third floor has more bedrooms and a 3/4 bath.
Christine is a great host and always keeps the house appointments updated.
