With about 150 full time residents, and separated from the rest of California by the imposing Sierra Nevada , the county seat of Markleeville has developed a reputation as an outdoorsman paradise. Here enjoy the soothing sounds of nearby Markleeville Creek in the spring, the quaking aspen trees in the front yard, or head out to Grover Hot Springs for a rejuvenating soak.

My family and I have spent a lot of time in Markleeville over the years and we all love the area. We wanted to get away for a few days for a quiet Fourth of July and the house on Sawmill Road was perfect for us. The host is great and the house is rustic but very comfortable and had all the amenities we could ask for, including level 2 EV charging. The location is really good - about halfway between town and the hot springs - and whether the house is a base for various adventures in the area or is the destination itself for a little solitude and relaxation, you can't go wrong. We will be back, maybe in winter for a skiing adventure at nearby Kirkwood!
