Situated in Ventura, this lovely cottage for $163 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. The 'Hummingbird Cottage (dubbed by our guests) is a Storybook Property above the Heart of Downtown Ventura. Detached Guest house with private bath, den and kitchenette on property with owner's main house. Treehouse is also a separate structure and sleeps one. Private lush flower garden with full mountain views and a peek-a-boo of the ocean with the Channel Islands on clear days, deer grazing at Grant park at sunrise on the hill. Just steps to Historic Main street and it's trendy shops and restaurants, night clubs and galleries to fresh produce at Farmer's market on Saturday mornings. Take the beach cruisers down miles of boardwalk past Surfer's Point, the Fairgrounds, several campgrounds, the longest pier in California to the Harbor and beyond. Hiking, Surfing, and nightlife are all walking distance. Ojai and Santa Barbara are quick drives away. The rooms are very small but charming, the accommodations are for people who want to explore what the area has to offer. Fire Pit, Fountain, Barbecue, Porch Swing, it is romantic and subtle for the perfect get-away. So close to what you wanna see but feels like the perfect jungle Hide-Away. We had the toilet back up the first night and there was no plunger on the property. Soemone brought over a toilet plunger and gave it to me. No maintenance man. I used it and the plunger came off.
VRBO said the manager was billing us for another n$150.00 for damage to the cottage. The damage included feces on the walls (a lie), and stolen bed linen. (another lie). She even charged us for a new plunger that she said I broke. We left everything as we found it or better and we took no linen. Bad news.

When we left Property: 276728, everything was fine. My wife had cleaned the cottage and nothing was broken. We left the cottage clean. We didn't break any dishes; we didn't take any light bulbs; the batteries were used for the TV remotes that didn't work, we didn't take any towels. the groceries were included in the contract. Sandra said that she would have food in the fridge when we arrived The TV didn't work in the bedroom when we arrived and was never fixed There was no excrement and food on the floor and walls when we left. This is ridiculous. We left the cottage clean and undamaged with all lines and towels left in the hamper. We didn't take anything. We will not pay for damages that we did not cause.

We had an INCREDIBLE stay! This was one of our favorite vacations ever, and it truly was because of the beautiful space we got to call home for a few days. Sandy was so welcoming and generous, having fresh baked cookies for us upon arrival and giving us tips to the best places in town. Overall it is so peaceful, and the care and attention to detail that went into creating the space does not go unnoticed. We WILL be back!

Hummingbird Cottage was lovely. We also loved the treehouse in the yard. Ventura was our last stop before catching a flight out of LAX. I would definitely stay here again. Sandra was easy to communicate with. The bed was comfortable. The cottage was decorated in an eclectic vintage style. The backyard and gardens were beautiful.

This cottage was perfect for us. It was just what we needed for our stay in Ventura. We really loved it, and next time we come here, we would stay again. The garden and mountains were beautiful. There is never a moment when you won't have a hummingbird around you.

Quaint indoor spaces and ample outdoor spaces. Sandra was easy to reach for questions and requests. We didn’t use the bikes or sauna but they were nice perks! Hummingbirds, butterflies fountain and mountains in the distance were quite wonderful. Walkable to downtown restaurants and shops.

We were amazed! Everything from watching the birds bathe in the fountain, to the comfy beds and the fabulous fire pit area! We walked down the steps to a coffee shop every morning. The location is fabulous!

Beautiful Cottage & Wonderful Host
“The Hummingbird” is adorable and stocked with all sorts of goodies. Sandra adds so many extras, she really goes above and beyond. We arrived late to such a lovely presentation, with the lights dimmed and flickering like candles, cookies on the counter. Our dog had some health issues and Sandra went out of her way to help, calling her vet and getting us in ASAP. It’s rare in todays world to find someone who is so dedicated to making sure guests are well taken care of. Our stay was too short, can’t wait to return!

Our stay in the Hummingbird cottage was delightful! The place is tiny but very well appointed and has everything you need. The garden is amazing and gives you ample space to spread out of you need. We had a great time with great restaurants and parks within walking distance. We will definitely come back.

This was a beautiful spot, conveniently located, and overlooking the hills of Ventura. Sandra was a gracious host. She has a beautiful backyard with chairs and a fire pit which she opens to guests. There is also a treehouse you can stay in if the mood strikes. I highly reccomend this wonderful property.

Really neat little gem. Small but quite comfortable. There is some traffic noise (must be a lot of Harley’s in the area!) but not a big deal. Garden smelled great and awesome having bbq and fire pit. Bonus !

Hummingbird Heaven
This tiny cottage is a lovely sanctuary to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sun set behind the Ventura River Ridge. Peaceful and tidy, comfortable and safe. A lovely and kind host. I recommend the Hummingbird cottage highly.

I arrived one hour after check-in and the place wasn’t clean/ready. The door was open with a cell phone and used toilet paper roll on the table, beds unmade, used towels and linen, dirty kitchen. I had to look for the owner. I found her at the main house and let her know I had arrived and ask her to clean the place. She started cleaning while I waited. I felt uncomfortable because we couldn’t socially distance as the place is small so I went to the market to give her time to clean. I was trying to be accommodating but she still wasn’t done when I returned. At that point it was over two hours past check-in time. Unacceptable for her to do the cleaning so long past check in especially when she was charging a substantial cleaning fee! And when she finished there were still used blankets and a used face mask from the previous guests. It was sickening and unacceptable. I told her I couldn’t stay there under these conditions so she agreed to cancel my reservation and issue me a full refund. But two days later she sent me an email saying that a refund wasn’t warranted. What changed? So I had to pay for her place in addition to another hotel room I had to rent at the last minute that night. I spoke with a VRBO representative and they said I needed proof of the unacceptable conditions. They needed pictures. It never occurred to me to take any. I assumed Sandra would be honorable, take responsibility for her unacceptable rental and keep her word to cancel my reservation. She wasn’t truthful with me or VRBO. She told them that she was finishing the cleaning early, right after 3pm. That wasn’t true!! But it was my word against hers and I had no proof. I’m very disappointed with VRBO and disgusted with Sandra. This taught me a valuable lesson, take pictures of any rental in case there’s a discrepancy or problem. So let this be a cautionary tale for anyone who wants to stay at Sandra’s Hummingbird Cottage in Ventura. Beware!
