CATFISH COTTAGE-LAKE WATAUGA, TN -WATERFRONT-PRIVATE DOCK
About this cottage rental
Situated in Watauga Lake, this charming cottage for $150 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. RESCHEDULING IS AVAILABLE AS CALENDAR DICTATES. Catfish Cottage is a private waterfront vacation rental which provides beautiful mountain views depicting all seasons! PERFECT FOR A COUPLE GETAWAY! Maximum of four guests are allowed. PLEASE READ HOUSE RULES BEFORE BOOKING. Dogs or cats are CONSIDERED, and guests are expected to be forthcoming on the number and type of pet. NO SMOKING -- NO PARTIES A private dock, for use by renters only, is a place where you can either dock your personal watercraft, use the canoe or fishing kayak provided, or a pontoon can be rented from nearby Fish Springs Marina or Lake Shore Marina. The Watauga River flows into Lake Watauga just a few hundred yards from Catfish Cottage which enables adventurers to kayak or canoe up the river for quite a distance. TVA controls lake level which they usually start to lower in late August or September. Water depth at the end of our dock has never been less than 8'. This lowering doesn't allow canoeing all the way to the rapids. Fishing is great in Lake Watauga, and a license, if needed, is obtainable less than two miles away at Watauga Lake Mercantile (see their website). They are also the closest for "forgot to get" items. Ready for another adventure? Walk, hike, bike or drive just a little over a mile away to the Lake Watauga Winery which is in an old restored schoolhouse and hear about the ghosts that have revealed themselves since the property was purchased! Mountain City is only 16 miles from Catfish Cottage. It's an easy route to two major grocery stores. From Mountain City, it's another 17 miles to the Virginia Creeper Trail in Damascus, VA traveling on Hwy. 91 or in the opposite direction, you can travel to Boone or Blowing Rock, NC on Hwy. 421 from Mtn. City. Or, leaving the cottage and going through Pioneer Landing to Hwy. 321, it's 16 miles to the outskirts of Boone and then on to Linville, Blowing Rock, etc. The Bristol Race Track is about 40 miles from the cottage. Lots to do from this location. Or, simply stay at the cottage and relax. This is a NON-SMOKING vacation rental. WIFI is available as well as a phone. DISH TV is in the cottage as well as several DVD's. HORSEBACK RIDING on nearby Roan Mountain - or in Boone, NC. BIKE RIDING either in nearby Hampton TN or the world-known VIRGINIA CREEPER TRAIL! What adventures there are to be had! Dogs /cats are CONSIDERED. Please inform owners of the type of dog/cat you have when booking your dates. the place was clean, comfortable, as advertised, quiet (except for the traffic on the road just above the cabin), relaxing, great fire pit, well built dock. the hot water for the bath could have been 5 degrees F hotter but was reasonably warm. Would go back.

Our experience was phenomenal, from check-in to check-out. The hosts have thought of everything to make you feel right at home, and you cannot say enough about the beautiful location. A great place for a relaxing and peaceful vacation. We will definitely be back!!!

My husband and I rent this cozy lakeside cabin at least once or twice a year. It's perfect for two people (plus dogs). Hosts are always so welcoming and the cabin is well-equipped. 10/10

This cabin has everything you need for a lake retreat. Everything is provided and labeled with great instructions and easy, promo communication from the hosts.
This is my second time at Watauga Lake
but my first time at Catfish cottage. We want to make it a yearly vacation because it was so peaceful, beautiful and perfect.

The proprietors of this cabin are top notch in all regards. All the touches of comfort and thoughtfulness have been added for the guestâs stay! The owner is very approachable should you need to communicate, however, great detail is provided beforehand and for during your stay. Super clean!

We love staying here. The cottage is always very clean inviting. The views from the front porch and docks are gorgeous. We brought our own jet skis and had an absolute blast cruising the lake. We did have to drive the skis over from one of the marinas since there is no launch at the cottage but it was worth the 20 minute drive to be able to tie them to the dock for our entire stay rather than dragging them back and forth each day. Check out the Watuaga Winery if you get a chance. They have the best wood fired pizzas on Saturdays. Chicken, bacon, ranch and apple wine. So good! Can't wait to visit again!

Absolutely wonderful. Everything about it. Spotless, and nothing was overlooked! Even gave a sâmores kit, which was a nice little surprise. Loved the bird feeders, especially the hummingbird; so sweet. :)
Only thing to be aware of is the lack of cell service and weak wifi. There is a landline in the cottage though, which is appreciated.
Had a wonderful time, and will 100% be returning!

Catfish Cottage was the perfect place to stay for relaxing, enjoying nature and spending time with the one you love. Catfish Cottage was so comfortable and welcoming, thanks to the attention to details by Pat and George. My husband and I spent days on the dock, and evenings on the deck. If more stars were available to describe our time at Catfish Cottage, I'd give them. What a special place!

Catfish Cottage is a dream place to stay for a week get away. We were there in April and even though it was too cold to enjoy the provided equipment to go on the lake we loved sitting on the floating dock in the sun during the day and around the firepit at night. Pat provided everything we needed and more. The s'mores ingredients was a nice touch.
The cottage was super clean & comfortable. On the cooler days we were able to sit on the sofa and enjoy the lake view. We grilled even in the rain due to the grill being on the porch.
I thought the steep driveway was going to be a problem, but it wasnât. Our Toyota Highlander with the back-up camera made it a breeze.
We also enjoyed visiting Boone and Blowing Rock, NC and other local areas near the cottage.
Villa Nove Vineyards has great views and wine. Their other vineyard Watauga Lake Winery has great pizza and wine as well.
Pat checked up on us to be sure we were comfortable. She responded to our questions very quickly.
On our last day we saw a double rainbow over the mountains and lake! Beautiful!
Definitely one of the best VRBO stays we have had.
Thank you Pat and George.

Catfish Cottage is AMAZING! Pat and George are wonderful hosts and their attention to detail is first-class. From their excellent communication, thoughtful amenities (nothing is overlooked) and spotless cottage cleanliness, it was one of the nicest VRBOâs to-date. In addition, the cottage views from the back porch are stunning! Thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage with us, weâll definitely be back!

Very good communication to ensure all of our questions were answered before arrival. This cottage is immaculate with every fine detail thought out. The owners make it the way the would want itâŚright down to 2-ply TP with plenty of it. The porch is large & comfy. The dock was fun for our dogs to run around & the âpontoonâ was relaxing as it rocked us gently on the water. We didnât trust ourselves in kayaks or the canoe (50ish degree water+tip over=hypothermiaâŚyikes!) but they are there! 2 minutes to the winery, not much longer to the mercantile, but not much else close. We drove about 20+ minutes for take out from Monsoons (get the egg rolls!) and a fantastic pizza from Mandy Moes. (That reminds meâŚthere was even a pizza warming pan for the oven!) Itâs also worth it to make reservations at La Cucina. The back down the drive was tricky in my hubbyâs big, tall truck, but just go slow & easy! We really enjoyed our 5 nts here & hope to stay again soon!

First, communication with owners could not have been better. This began at Christmas, 2022, when the freeze came and travel was not recommended. They sugg3sted and let us change our holiday rental dates to an anniversaey date in April.
This is by far the cleanest place, it has all you need and more in regard to relaxing, water activity, cooking, ... The porch is so comfortable - lost time just watching the wildlife. The lake is beautiful. If we could have stayed another week, we sure would have.

We had our first couple getaway at the cottage and really enjoyed ourselves. The owners were wonderful people. They called us to offer us another weekend because the weekend we booked was going to be raining and cold. They wanted us to enjoy our time there. Will be back for sure.

This is the first time booking online. It did not disappoint. The cottage was wonderful. We were looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway and it was perfect. The scenery was beautiful. Will definitely do this again.

During a previous late-fall visit to Catfish Cottage last year, we endured cold weather with strong winds and snow! This fall's visit was much different. We enjoyed beautifully clear skies and pleasant summer-like temperatures. We took the opportunity to do some fishing, kayaking, birding (We saw a mature Bald Eagle!), walking and a lot of time just sitting on the deck or on the dock, enjoying true peace and quiet while watching beautiful sunsets light up the stunning fall colors in the hills surrounding the lake. Pat and George have created something very special at Catfish Cottage that touches us deeply with every return visit. Once again, we extend our sincerest thanks to Pat and George for the privilege of enjoying their marvelous creation.

This is a beautiful property and is even better than the pictures. So much to do at the cottage and lake itself, and fun surrounding activities as well- wineries, festivals etc. My favorite VRBO rental ever!

I stayed with my son and dog who both love to swim. The view from the deck was so amazing. There are kayaks, noodles, and life jackets all there for our enjoyment. The doggy ramp into the lake was perfect for our Jessie. It rained off and on during my stay but I enjoyed watching it from the covered deck, so peaceful. We took trips to lots of area activities such as Brights Zoo, Virginia Creeper Trail, Laurel Falls trail, Bristol Caverns, and 421 Creamery in mountain city. Everything is newly remodeled and kept in perfect condition. There are so many amenities and Pat is just wonderful. Thank you for a vacation we'll be sure to remember :)
