Private AT Historic Mountain Home... Where Serenity awaits... Right off the AT!
About this house rental
Nestled in Vernon Township, this charming house for $200 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Welcome to my Glenwood Mountain home ( Vernon ) located in beautiful Sussex County, in the northwest corner of New Jersey. Home sits on 1.6 tranquil acres, National Park land behind and adjacent to the Appalachian Trail. Escape and step back into time. Originally built in the 1800's this home boasts country character and old world charm. My love of antiquing and unique collections has fully furnised this home. Recently renovated & keeping with it's rustic appeal. Wide plank floors and beams in the living room and bedrooms, spacious bathroom with a deep antique claw foot tub, perfect for a nice hot bubble bath. Surrounded by nature, relaxation inside and out. Sussex County is well-known as a four-season recreational community. With our mountains and more than 80 lakes and streams, thousands of visitors are attracted here each year to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, apple/ pumpkin picking, skiing in 2 major areas, 7 award winning golf courses all within a 5 mile radius, one of the worlds largest water parks, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, NJ State Fair and Orange Co. (NYS) , festivals, antiquing in the beautiful historic town of Warwick, upscale restaurants with renowned chefs, to casual dining, cafe's and so much more. There is even a Drive-in theater in Warwick NY... all within minutes away. For those truly looking to relax & unwind. Escape the commotion, hassle and bustle of your daily living. Enjoy natures surroundings listening to the birds, watching the deer and turkey cross, or squirrels on a chase. Travel the Appalachian Trail & bordering trails that open up to beautiful spring fed lakes only minutes from the house. Pack a lunch, grab a pole, throw out a line and enjoying some fishing. Take some quiet time to read a book, relax in the hammock, draw/ paint, perfect photo opportunities await or perhaps a possible song to compose while sitting around the fire pit. According to some of the old timers and as legend has it, locals gathered around sippin moonshine in the old still located on the property. Remains of a rock foundation stand in the back yard of what once housed a cow which provided fresh milk for the family then later to become a still to provide some entertainment and extra income. Many of songs and poems were written about these hills.... This home offers both rustic and modern amenities, is clean, comfortable and in a great central location. Come visit, get away, relax and enjoy life in the country, beautiful Sussex County with people and nature together.

We had a wonderful time. A nice, quiet, comfortable home in desolation was exactly what we were looking for!

We were looking for a 4 day weekend of hiking and the place was perfect. Its location was close to hiking trails and the location provided pure relaxation. Lisa was easy to work with and made sure we had the perfect weekend.

Exactly what we need for a peaceful girls weekend!

Dog Friendly, Just off the Appalacian Trail, easy to walk out the door for a hike to the nearby pond.
Cozy, Clean, overall just an easy place to stay. Claw foot bathtub and the Firepit are really great amenities.

This is a lovely spot, one that has a wonderful atmosphere, cozy, and in a wooded area among farmland, the Appalachian Trail, and local sites (taverns, outdoor festivals, breweries/wineries). Dog-friendly, too, which is a huge plus. Looking forward to another visit.

The property was wonderful and fit our needs perfectly. Everything was clean and well-maintained, the area was peaceful and whatever we needed to get to wasn't too hard to find.
The owner Lisa was a great host. She was quick to answer my questions and helped me to make the most of our stay.
Thanks, Lisa! đź‘Ť

We couldn’t of asked for anything more-a lovely, peaceful setting, any amenities you could think of-including a little kids bath toys, spices, flash lights, bug spray, games, washer & dryer etc.
Communication with the owner was easy and she was very informative. House was spotless & the grounds beautiful. You can get away from it all while still having tons to do with a short drive.
One note-steps to the bedrooms are steep & open & bathroom is in the first floor.
We will definitely return to this property!

Lisa was a fabulous host who checked in just enough. The cabin is cozy and exactly like pictures. We spent a lot of time outside on the patio and exploring the wealth of local trails and outdoor activities. You feel very secluded yet are so close to anything you need like 13 minutes to a full grocery store!

Property was just as described and Lisa was fantastic! The cozy cabin, hiking around the property, the bonfire pit, the fresh donuts down the street, the proximity to everything we needed, reconnected us and refreshed us. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks Lisa!

This property is beautiful with all of the fall foliage surrounding it. It also is in a great location as it's close to breweries, distilleries, and apple orchards. We had an amazing time visiting local farms and picking pumpkins and apples with the kids! Also used the firepit in the back, which was great for making s'mores!

Instead of a newly renovated, super-modern rental, I usually look for something that may be updated, with the creature comforts, but with local character. This rental fit the bill completely. The owner has painstakingly brought an older building back to life without over-modernizing it. Old, wide-plank floors let you know the age of the home, while renovations of the kitchen and bathroom are updated for modern use, while still providing country charm. The property is secluded, but not completely isolated, surrounded on three sides by state land. We stayed in the fall and it didn't disappoint. And wildlife will show up eventually. The owner is very pleasant and accommodating. We will stay again if we are able.

I booked this rather last-minute as an (adult) mother/daughter getaway to get a few days breathing room out of the city during a difficult time. Lisa was fantastic about communicating and so much fun to chat with by phone! The property is private and quiet but still well-situated near local attractions like wine tasting, apple picking, and hiking. The house was spotless with a well-appointed kitchen, and the fire pit is great! We would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat- and Lisa, next time come do Art & Sip at Blue Arrow - on me because I owe you one (you know why!) and also because I bet you are a total hoot to hang with in person. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Lisa, the owner, was very easy to communicate with. The house has an interesting history and you can read about it in the home folder. Beautiful and peaceful location.

Adorable & Cozy pets loved it too! 5 month stay
During our home restoration we were so happy to find this listing that allowed pets. We stayed for 5 months thanks to our insurance company. Little did we know that this little gem had an owner that was caring, loving, available and just an overall fantastic person. I highly recommend this property for people looking to get away or if being relocated by your insurance company and don’t want to have to be without your fur babies. We loved it ❤️

Clean, quaint, isolated house
If you’re looking for a clean, quaint house surrounded by trees, this would be a good pick. I imagine it’s especially cozy in the winter. Fire pit is a nice attraction for cool nights.

Cozy Cabin in the Woods
This is a great, cozy, private cabin in a great location close to breweries, farms, cafes and restaurants. The host is extremely accommodating and helpful. The property has an amazing yard, fire pit and grill that unfortunately we weren't able to enjoy to the fullest, but wish we would have been able to. Would definitely stay again!

I was traveling alone (woman in her 50’s) seeking a place to rest, refuel. Lisa was beyond kind and wonderful- met me at the property, pointed out all the important stuff, took time to ensure it would be comfortable (particularly related to heat as it was getting cold). Have me tips for the fire pit… fire pit was great! Lisa was also available and responsive throughout.
The cottage is so sweet. A-frame thick wood ceiling beams, old feeling with many new amenities- great oven, microwave, large fridge, washer/dryer (didn’t use but was happy it was there).
Nearby, I spent most of my time on walking trails in the Walkill Wildlife refuge. Drove there- nearest trails are the northern ones- about 10 min drive. Southern trails were about 15-20 min drive. Lovely walks in nature.
Had a wonderful rain day when I never left the cottage- read, journalled, listened to the rain. There are two large windows in the kitchen/ dining area where you can sit and relax- made it feel almost like a screened in porch. And on the sunny days, did some meditation on the lawn facing a beautiful old tree and protected forest area…
Definitely recommend and thank you to Lisa for a wonderful stay and wonderful home!

Great location to enjoy a lot of different fall activities in Warwick and Sussex Co. Lisa is a great host--easy communication and she clearly loves the property as more than just an investment.
The fire pit sitting area is the highlight of the property. The house is nothing fancy but exactly as described, and perfect for my small family to get out of the city for a few days.

Perfect cottage/camp for short stay
Lisa was a great host and very attentive to the details and flexible with our changed dates. Larger guests, or those with mobility issues, might have issues with the steep stairs or bed sizes, but for us, just right! Fantastic outdoor space and quiet neighborhood.

peaceful getaway
quiet and secluded 1800's house. bedrooms and living room from original construction were small but cozy with very comfy beds and couch. kitchen and bathroom were spacious bump-outs with modern appliances and fixtures yet kept character of the original house. all necessities provided: pots, pans, utensils, kitchen towels, even "reading material" for the bathroom.
lots of knick-knacks and decorations that were engaging and stimulating and funny. great TV, limited satellite TV channels but access to Netflix and Wifi so plenty of entertainment choices.
beautiful fire-pit / patio area and lots of yard space to play with our dog. didn't get the chance to go hiking through the woods but wildlife refuge area adjacent to property.
Lisa, the host was communicative, friendly and accommodating. she and her partner do all the work to the house and the cleaning. It shows how much they care.
Great getaway and highly recommended.

We were looking for a quiet, family getaway and found the perfect spot. Lisa was a great host, very responsive and offered great suggestions of things to do in the area. We visited Warwick, NY, great small town with good food and shops. Pochuck Valley Farms is right down the road and has great donuts. The Daily Bean is a fun coffee shop with lots of outdoor space along a little creek, has good coffee and breakfast treats. Pine Island, NY is a couple of minutes away, there is a park perfect for young kids, as well as the Pine Island Tap House down the road, perfect for adults to try local craft beers. Food truck and music was there the day we stopped by. We also hit the Appalachian Trail for a little hiking and outdoor fun. Back at the house we roasted smores around the fire pit and Lisa has a bunch of board games we played each night, something we just don't do enough of back home. We didn't turn on the TV once in the 3 days we were there, which is an accomplishment with a 7 yr old. Overall a great trip, definitely recommend and would come back.

We really enjoyed staying at Lisa's cottage for a week in July. We came down primarily to go to Legoland and ended up spending three days at Mountain Creek Water Park as well, which was a blast! The cottage is 12 minutes from MC and 18 minutes from Legoland. The cottage is very cozy and clean. The beds were comfortable and we loved the patio and firepit out back. The yard felt private and safe. The kids caught fireflies at night and rode their bikes around the yard. We hiked on the Appalachian trail several times, and enjoyed going to local breweries/wineries and farm stands. Lisa was an excellent host. She communicated with me and gave us tips on the best trails/places to explore. I wish we could have stayed longer!

House was a wonderful, quiet respite from city life, and very easy to get to from Manhattan -we arrived in about 75 minutes from midtown. Lisa is a warm and welcoming host. There are great dining and golfing spots nearby.

Overall, Lisa's house was a great experience. The house was extremely cozy, and was perfectly sized for our group of 4. The weather was gorgeous so we made full use of the all of the outdoor seating and the grill. At night, the firepit was perfect. The house is also extremely close to a multitude of hiking trails, antique shops and lots of great breweries. Lisa was also extremely responsive, checking in to make sure we were OK throughout the weekend and quickly answering our questions. Would definitely go back!
