About this house rental
Benedict Haid Farm is a family-owned business open, mostly for weddings, for the past 30 years. It features a large, historic 1860s hand-hewn log home on 400-acres, adjoining 10,000 acres of undeveloped corporate property. This is a nice place to get away for a while, or host a small retreat. The nearest commercial building is six miles away. :-)
The property was built by Benedict Haid and was later used as a Girl Scout camp in the mid-20th Century. Benedict Haid Farm is mostly used as a wedding destination. It has two bedrooms and a sun room with queen size sleeper, and 1 1/2 baths. Living room and dining room each with fireplace. Gas heat, A/C, and all modern conveniences like a gas grill. Huge heated attached deck with outside fireplace and hot tub. Free firewood.
There is walking access to a pond, Margaret's Pond, roughly .75 mile from the Haid House. You will have access to the surrounding woods, Margaret's Pond, and the nearby farmland, if you want to make such arrangements. There is a cattle farm on the property that we can arrange for you to see. If you are interested in holding an event, please contact us. The newly-renovated barn is available to be rented for events, as well. It was renovated using logs from historic log cabins formerly located in the South Hills section of Charleston.
Steve and Lee, the caretakers for the Benedict Haid Farm, live 100 yards away and can be contacted when necessary.
Dutch Ridge is a largely undeveloped area and contains some of the highest hills and mountains in this part of West Virginia.
UPDATE August 2022: New cell phone booster system installed! It provides good, usable service for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile Users.

Rural, dirt road,in the woods..We didn’t expect spotless.Natural Gas smell was strong.We did buy groceries prior to arrival because Clendenin is still recover from 2016 flooding.You can buy groceries in Elk view, about 20-30 minute drive.It rained most of our visit so exploring the property wasn’t an option.Wildlife?Consisted of various birds on the property.5 homes on this property and barely heard anyone over Memorial weekend.Dutch Ridge rd is winding and rough.Suggest,4w drive or taking your time and definitely not a winter visit with anything less.Furniture needs some TLC.Shower upstairs is narrow and the showerhead is low.Main bedroom,(Americana decor) bed is comfortable beyond our expectations! We came for Decompressing and just reconnecting.Were we happy with what we walked into for lack of comfort?NO..Did we decompress and get the quiet and solitude we needed?YES! We would rent again,if the shower was able to be used effectively.Over 200lb and 5’10 shower and shower head is low and tub is narrow and wife is under4’11 and struggled to wash her hair. We loved the quiet,best sleep in months.If you struggle physically,If you are larger than average and over 4’8.The amenities will be an issue!We even were told a mouse was in the house! We’re in the woods,on farmland off a dirt road.We were just happy it was not copperheads or rattlesnakes in the house! Great place if you’re adventurous and enjoy nature! Caretaker was informative!We left early! Would we visit again?YES!!!
