GUS's PLACE...Unwind with a TRIP to the PAST in this CABIN built in 1865.
About this cabin rental
Situated in Nacogdoches, this attractive cabin for $135 per night is a fantastic choice for your next vacation. This is just the cutest little cabin that was the original homeplace for this property back in 1865. We both love LONESOME DOVE so we named this cabin for GUS. (We built a two bedroom "CLARA'S CABIN" at the other end of the property. Both are very private and have their own sense of a peaceful getaway.) It has been updated in keeping with respect for both its age and our modern needs. The kitchen boasts a new stainless GE gas stove/oven and a stainless GE fridge. It has a porcelain farm sink and the floors....while not old....are stained to match the old plank flooring in the rest of the house. There is a comfy living room with a fireplace and DirecTV and fantastic stained glass pieces done by widely acclaimed stained glass artist, Pat Williams. The bedroom has a queen size bed and off this bedroom in the front is a reading room/bunk room with a bunk for ONE extra person...although this little house is more comfortable for one or two people. We can also provide a cot or a Pack N Play if given advance notice that you are bringing a small child. The bathroom has a slate tile floor and slate tile shower with stained glass in the window of the shower and above the sink. There is a washer and dryer in the event that you need those items. We supply a hair dryer and linens and towels for your needs. We also supply shampoo, soaps, Tide, charcoal for grilling, etc., just like your home. We stock the pantry with condiments and other foodstuffs for your use. There is a lovely patio in the back with a couple of tables and chairs and patio furniture with an umbrella. We have a hot tub (PLEASE...NO LOTIONS AT ALL ON YOUR BODIES IN THE HOT TUB.) There is a fire pit for your enjoyment and we generally have wood out there for it. . There is also a propane fired grill for your outdoor cookouts! Whatever you would like to use at the Little House, please feel free to do so. AND....if you love fresh farm eggs feel free to go into the chicken coop and get some fresh eggs and in the garden behind the little chicken coop, you can pluck some fresh veggies whenever the garden yields its crops. Our newest dog addition, Lilly the blue eyed husky, will usually camp out under the Little House just to keep cool. It is just a lovely little cabin. Please enjoy yourself! This was the best weekend getaway. Set back in Texas Country surrounded by country landscapes and away from city life. My husband and I enjoyed our weekend for our 20 year anniversary Everything is accurate in the description, thoroughly enjoyed and already planning to go back again. Also you are not far from downtown Nachodoches where there is lots to do and see.

We were greatly pleased with the arrival gift provided by the owner. Directions to best places to eat were also good to get and spot-on for our stay. We loved the privacy and the views around the property. Couldn't quite understand how to control the fireplace, but we did not need it anyway, so it did not detract from our enjoyment.

It was a great place to get away and just enjoy some much needed peace and quiet.

In town visiting our daughter who is a student at SFA. This place is just out of town and served us perfectly. Cabin is exactly as described and shown in photos. If weather had allowed we would have sat outside on the patio more or enjoyed the hot tub. A great location for us and the host was incredibly friendly and attentive.

We loved this little cabin nestled just outside of Nacogdoches! The star gazing is incredible, the cabin, neat and tidy, and the hostess, very friendly and prompt with any questions we had. I would highly recommend this place to my family and friends looking for a quiet, quaint getaway!

My husband, my 2 month old baby and I stayed in this little cabin for a weekend in Nacogdoches. It was the perfect space for us, especially with having access to a kitchen for cleaning baby bottles. We loved seeing the cows and chickens and even collected eggs from the chicken coop. The property is gated, so felt very safe. We would definitely stay here again!

Really enjoyed staying at the cabin. As a history lover, it was like being able to step back in time. Rocking in the chairs on the porch was such a pleasure, whether it was in the morning, drinking coffee while listening to the birds or in the evening watching the sparkling lights of fireflies dancing in the trees. It is a nice little place to stay and would definitely consider returning.

Communication with owner was great from the beginning. Detailed instructions for travel and while staying at the cabin. Very relaxing cabin with the cows roaming around next door and the friendly dogs greeting you. Inside was decorated nicely to give if that cozy feel. House was minutes away from town, which was easy for travel. Would stay again for sure.

This home is special, different, and that's a really good thing. If you're looking for peace, quiet, cozy, rest, this is for you. The authentic cabin is a perfect getaway for a couple, complete with welcoming cows and dogs. Private yet safe, the home features a spa, all the standard conveniences, and even farm-fresh eggs. The owner knows hospitality, and was very welcoming and gracious!

The cabin was just as advertised. We loved everything about it. The owner even had a plate of cookies waiting for us!

This place was magical… when we (my fiancé and I) arrived it was warm and cozy, lit by lamplight, music playing on the tv, and a cake from the owner with “Happy Anniversary” on it. (We each had 2 slices after dinner… it was incredible)
The pictures really don’t do it justice because it is beautiful and had everything we could have wanted including the hot tub, fire pit and grill!!
We are already talking about when we can go back. The owner was so friendly and welcoming, and easily reachable.
We are both grinning ear to ear after this trip. It was a perfect anniversary weekend.

This is our 2nd stay at the adorable cozy cabin and it won't be our last. We wanted to getaway for our anniversary and knew this was the perfect place. It feels like you are in the middle of nowhere but only minutes to Historic Downtown.

Cabin is as described and more! I haven't been so relaxed in many years and only regret we couldn't stay 4 more days to see the sites so neatly laid out in the Cabin instruction manual. The guide was a tremendous asset outlining places of interest and restaurants were even better quality eating than we could expect. Marcia is such a gracious host and we are going to come back maybe even longer next time. I celebrated my 70th. birthday there and couldn't have had a better celebration. Thanks Marcia and VRBO.

This cabin out in the country is what I will call “ Modern Rustic”. It has the old time feel but has all the modern comforts needed. You can relax and enjoy the property or go exploring in town. The hot tub was enjoyable after walking thru town and on the LaNana Trail all day. We “ talked” to the cows and gathered fresh eggs in the morning. I don’t think I’ve ever had such fresh and delicious eggs!!!! Over all a wonderful stay.

This was our 2nd time visiting this amazing cabin. This time we brought our 10 yr old and he was in awe. He was out catching fireflies every evening. The chickens were gorgeous and quite chatty :-). The cabin was wonderful. Even with the heat the cabin stayed nice and cool. Kitchen was perfectly stocked. It's just a lovely, quiet, serene property. We'll be back again :-)

RELAXATION IN STYLE
A beautiful country setting in a true rustic cabin with all the modern day comforts. Relaxing atmosphere, great hosts, and good security. Located in quiet rural countryside but still has convenient access to the city of Nacogdoches.

Start of by saying the pictures, as nice as they are, actually under serve how charming and cozy Gus’ cottage is. We opened the door and both said, Wow. It was pristinely clean, had lots of comfy seating, and tons of antiques, pottery, art and gorgeous stained glass windows. On the kitchen table was a “Welcome Y’all” cake (it was delicious!). The TV has every channel you could wish for, the bed was really comfortable and omg the shower was big, stocked with nice products and the shower head had a nice stream going. When I mentioned to the host that we needed dish soap, it was promptly delivered. All of my communications only took minutes to answer.
In short, we loved it, and hope to stay again soon!!

This is a wonderful cabin that provides exceptional comfort and relaxation in a rural setting outside of Nacogdoches. The cabin was the original home on the property, but it was moved down the hill and has been well appointed and updated to make it very nice for a romantic or quiet getaway. With one bedroom (comfy queen bed), it is perfect for a couple. There is a small room off the bedroom that has two bunk beds that would accommodate children, but not teenagers or adults. The bathroom is spacious and well-appointed, with a walk-in shower. There are laundry facilities in the bathroom behind a discreet curtain. The main room with the front entrance (you will enter through the back door into the kitchen initially) is also spacious and very cozy. It is nicely arranged with a comfy sitting/reading area in three of the four corners - fourth corner has the TV. Living room leads directly into the kitchen, which is well supplied, with many small appliances and the standard large appliances. There is a two-person breakfast table.
The decor is lovely and appropriate, with country and southwestern influences predominating. Ceiling fans in the bedroom and living room. Central AC. Fireplace in living room.
On the front of the house is a porch with two rocking chairs, which made a great place to sit out at dusk with a drink and observe wildlife and a delightful firefly display; they congregated above the ground cover that surrounded the large shade tree directly in front of the house.
In back, there is a patio with a small covered area, with a small table and that is also where the hot tub is. We did not use the hot tub due to heat during our stay, but it would be nice to use during cooler months. On the other side of the patio from the house is the chicken coop. The chickens did not disturb us during our stay, but it was fun to walk to the back of their building and see them roosting.
Along one side of the cabin is the driveway leading up to the main house on top of a small hill; there is plenty of distance to ensure privacy. On the other side is a pasture where during the day there were cows grazing (don't know if the cows are always in this pasture or if they get moved around). The pasture is fenced off, of course, and the fence is about 20 feet from the cabin, so at times the cows came up close to where we were sitting, but they were quiet and placid.
This cabin is a gem of a find if you like quiet and cozy, just ten min from downtown Nacogdoches.

We love cabins and farm stays. This was our first anniversary getaway in a few years and it was wonderful. We loved drinking coffee on the porch in the morning and watching the cows. The book selection was also fantastic. We ended up ordering one of the books for ourselves.

Beautiful cabin right outside of Nacogdoches. Close enough to the city, but out in the country. Fresh eggs from the chickens located near the cabin. Friendly dog, Sadie would come visit. Perfect place to spend a quiet anniversary with your sweetie.
