We loved our stay on Swan Island. It was better than we expected. The house is great and the location is amazing. The 4 bedrooms are large and comfortable. There’s only one bathroom upstairs and one down, but it wasn’t an issue. The only item I’d note is that the stairs are very steep so not good for someone with issues, but I think there’s a sofa bed on the first floor. Also, no air conditioning but there are lots of fans in case it’s hot. Our host was very responsive and extremely helpful and the house was very well equipped. We bought lobsters at the co-op several times…just walked down the hill, a 2 min walk.
We brought most of our food for the week, but went to the little store for a few items…it’s very well stocked. We went out with the lobsterman our host recommended and that was fun and interesting. We hiked and our favorite hike was a new one across from the little store.
If you’re looking for a real Maine experience without the crowds, this is a terrific choice.

This home is delightful, clean and spacious, and the location is fantastic. The cook’s kitchen and wrap-around deck are exactly as pictured and a real treat. There are even pots and tools to cook and eat fresh lobster — which you can buy right off the boats at the co-op at the bottom of the hill.
The layout of the home is great and easily accommodated our party of 5 adults — 2 of whom comfortably worked remotely during our stay.
John is a wonderful host and is easy to reach. He also provides a lot of well-organized and helpful information in advance of the stay.
One minor detail to note — the lobster co-op mentioned above is a working business and a vital part of the island. There is almost continuous generator noise that we found easy to block out, but this may not be for you if you are looking for a completely quiet venue.
We really loved our visit and plan to stay at this lovely home again next summer.

This property, like Swans Island, is an amazing escape. Beautifully appointed and others have noted, far and away the most well stocked kitchen. A cook and bakers delight! The views are stunning . This is a busier corner of the island with lobster boats coming and going from the Co-op at the bottom of the hill. But busy is a relative term! We enjoyed watching the boats come and go.
Everyone is so inviting on the island - and Bob is so accommodating and quick to reply. TIMS is shockingly stocked for its 600sq ft. That said we were glad we stocked up on pantry items before we came. The pizza was a treat from TIMs (wed and Friday - book at least 2 days in advance!). We also loved the hike along the trailhead that is across from TIMS, the boat cruise with Jason Joyce, and the lighthouse tour isn’t to be missed!
One note for others - if you’d like to go to Acadia for the day plan to book a round trip with your car in advance. We didn’t (hoping to use the Island Shuttle) and found the shuttle schedule did not align in ways to make it feasible. All round trip reservations were booked and given the lines for the ferry we didn’t want to risk not getting back in the evening! In the end, we didn’t feel like we missed out - the island is it’s own special treat to be savored!

Wonderful porch to enjoy a view of the harbor, comfortable house, and very convenient to purchase fresh lobster. The host was easy to contact and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Home Away from Home
Our stay on Swans island was a dream. The house was as comfortable as our own-had all the amenities for a week of cooking and hanging and time with family. It was comfortable for 2 families of 4 with young children. The outdoor space was perfect for young ones to run around. The walk down the hill to get fresh lobster and fish off the dock was great. And a short walk to a few destinations. A small enough island that not much time is spent in the car to explore a variety of adventures. The lighthouse trails and rocky beach up the road by the cemetery was a perfect place for a small campfire marshmallow roast, and other favorites were fine sand beach, and the quarry-both places great for swimming with kids.
Sunrises and sunset glow on back porch for dinner was perfect way to end the day.
Swans is truly a secret and magical place. We hope to come back to this house next summer!

This is a lovely, clean, well provisioned house situated just above the fisherman’s coop dock. Lots of vehicles going by and the sounds of lobster boats, etc. Very scenic view, but not totally serene.

The house is located in a nice quiet area with great privacy to just relax and get away for a while.
This house is absolutely perfect and it completely made our trip. Homeowners got back to us promptly with any questions we had, very helpful. Swans Island is a great place to get away for a very laid back vacation. Some local hiking trails are great. I would make sure you have all supplies you could want because taking the ferry can take a bit of time and is costly with a vehicle. The island is really great for just getting away to reset. Would definitely recommend!

Amazing time!
This was our first time to Maine and Swan’s Island was exactly what we needed and wonderful introduction to Maine. John could not have been a better host, always accessible and provided a wealth of knowledge for the island as well as offered information for birdwatching information for our daughter!!! You at first may think that there is not much to do and a week would be too much but actually there is so much to do or not do for weeks on end! Highlights were Fine Sands Beach, The Quarry, The Lighthouse, The Lobster Museum and so much more…. Coffee Love (food truck) which served wonderful breakfast (blueberry muffins were fabulous) and coffee in the morning and ice cream in the evenings (ice cream sandwiches are on the secret menu) is a wonderful discovery and while you wait you can play corn hole!!! We took a 2 hour lobster tour with Captain Joyce and learned about the lobster fishing and banding and even saw eagles hunt over an island of great cormorants!
The house was wonderful with ample enough room for 6 people and a well stocked kitchen! Location was great for the kids to fish and watch the lobster boats go out. The deck was lovely with a grill and ample seating! Sunrises were breathtaking….
I could go on and on but it would spoil the surprises…. Go with no agenda and leave feeling refreshed and relaxed!

Perfect place for secluded R&R with beautiful view.
This is our family's first trip to Maine and we could not have picked a better home for a secluded R&R with an amazing view.
The house matches the exact description listed on the website. It's a charming NE style beach home with a good mixture of traditional and modern touch. It is situated close to the Fishermen's Co-op so you have a 180 view of the harbor in every rooms at the back of house. We spent countless hours on the wrap-around deck soaking in the amazing view of the harbor and the fish boats. It's also a perfect place to catch sunrise.
The home is also used by the owner so its well maintained. We enjoyed the decors in/around the house and all the furniture are in great shape. The kitchen is very modern with high-end appliances. We do a lot of cooking/baking and certainly appreciated the abundance of tools available at our disposal. This is by far the best equipped kitchen we have encountered in a vacation home rental!
John is very responsive with our inquires and there is also a binder at the house with lots of useful information.
Swan Island is a charming place and the people are friendly. It is seclusive and only reachable by Ferry. The ferry ride is scenic but the process to get on the one at the time you choose without reservation is quite a hassle.
The island offer the same beautiful views that you can get at Acadia park without the traffic (vehicle/human) congestion. There is a beautiful lighthouse close to the house w some light hiking trail. A fine sand beach (the actual name) with a beautiful view is 10 mins away from the house through a scenic walking trail. A lovely rock quarry pond is 15 mins away where the locals visit for a dip and also offers a gorgeous view.
Please note the island does not have any bars, restaurants and only a small convenience store that offer limited supplies of groceries. We brought a whole week worth of groceries and glad we did. The store has a food shack that makes Pizza twice a week and we enjoyed a really good Scallop pizza one night.
Overall we had a really relaxing and enjoyable week. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us, JW!

No Better Way to Stay in Maine
Our group really enjoyed our stay on Swans Island. To be honest we picked the property on a whim, as it was close to Acadia National Park. However after staying on the island, we feel this experience was equal or better than the park! The island is beautiful, people are friendly, and quiet is an understatement. We have started looking at property on the island as a result, if that's any indication.
The house is beautiful, well appointed, clean, and was in a wonderful location. I almost hate to rave about it because we want to come back and I'm afraid it will book up. John was an excellent host and we would happily rent again.
If you are headed to Acadia, there is no better way to stay. The only hindrance if you aren't familiar is the ferry but it's really no big deal once you learn the rules. We utilized reservations and even snuck off the island for some extra adventures. All in all, you won't be disappointed.

What a gem of a place!! First, I have to confess I thought we made a mistake booking this spot. I was looking so fervently for a spot we could hike and enjoy as a family to refresh our spirits after this tiring covid 19 year+. I imagined we’d hike in Acadia most of our time. We planned this vacay with another family once we found this beautiful house! But after we booked I realized it cost about $75 to get off the island and was 45 mins away from Acadia from the the mainland. I contacted John and told him I was worried we had made a mistake. He was very responsive and filled me in on some of the jewels of the island and how to navigate the area. I researched his links and decided this may be better than our original plans! And it was. I almost don’t want to share our finds because the discovery of these things was part of the joy of staying on Swans Island. We have 2 kids and they fell in love with the island, as did my husband and me. We did multiple short hikes with great views, scrambled on rocks along the coast (“rock hopping” as the kids would say), found dinosaur eggs (mosaic looking rocks from granite), saw seals come right up to us while sitting on rocks having a snack, went inside a lighthouse, took ferry rides, swam (yes swam) in a wonderful rock quarry that was actually warm!?!, and bought lobsters from the UnderwaterTaxi shop where the kids chose their own lobsters and with instructions from Les ( the owner) we cooked them in John’s fully equipped kitchen! We are in that great big deck and watched the boats go by. Very serene. We did make it off the island three times to hike in Acadia, get some fabulous lobster rolls from Charlottes Legendary Lobsters, and take a puffin/seal tour (wouldn’t recommend really-but our kids loved it). Overall-it was better than I had hoped and could have stayed a week on the island itself easily!
FYI- if you go to Acadia, go early. It’s super crowded after 12:00. Hard to enjoy when you are in stop and get go traffic at a National park!?!
Thank you John -your home is a wonderland.

Beautiful Property a must stay if going to Swan's Island
My family and I stayed here while on Swan's Island. The kitchen is beautiful and has everything you need. The living room and deck were great entertaining areas and scenery is gorgeous. Internet works well and TV has apps (Hulu, Disney Plus, Netflix) and cable for those rainy days and if you have kids with you. While there, we went to the Lighthouse, Fine Sands Beach and the Quarry and had a great time. I would also recommend a lobster charter with Swan's Island Charter. It was alot of fun! We plan to return!

An amazing, memorable stay
We absolutely loved our stay at this house. The house is very spacious (especially the kitchen) and well stocked with household and kitchen items. Really clean and we spent a lot of time outside on the deck. The island is so lovely with a superb sand beach and everyone was so friendly. It's a great house to get away and relax - but note the cell service isn't that great around the area and the internet did struggle to keep up when we tried to work remotely.
If you plan to go off the island (e.g. going to Acadia, like we did some of the days of our stay), it's worth making the ferry reservations ahead of time for your car. A few times, we couldn't get on although we got there half an hour early, so had to wait ~2hr for the next ferry.

We had a wonderful stay at John's beautiful house. John was a great source of information and was extremely responsive to any questions and requests. The view of the harbor from the house was magnificent. The island is a truly unique and special place. We would absolutely return to this property in the future should we have the opportunity.

We had a great time on Swans and this was a super house! Pretty, clean, well-stocked kitchen, breathtaking views. All the bedrooms were great, the porch had sunny and shady spots, great breeze blowing through the house with almost perfect weather for the entire week we were there. Couldn't have been more picture perfect - we will be back!
