The house itself was very well equipped, with three large bedrooms, all with on-suite baths (we only used two.. as we were just 2 couples) and televisions. The kitchen was large and well equipped with many pots/pans for cooking as well as some spices, paper products, etc.. The family/living room was large and offered great views of Carmel bay, had a large TV for watching movies as well as an assortment of books and puzzles, which was helpful for some inclement weather we experienced. The location is great for easy quick access to Big Sur, walk to the beach, quick drive to downtown Carmel, Monterey and Pebble Beach.
We have stayed in many homes through VRBO, and our overall complaint with this house was the cleanliness. While the bedrooms and baths had fresh clean linens, the kitchen (especially appliances) were not clean. We had to wash down the refrigerator shelves (which could use a deep cleaning) as well as the coffee maker; and the oven and toaster oven were also in need of a deep cleaning. The property also prominently advertises the hot tub, which was nice and appeared new, however, it was also not clean. Upon opening the cover, there was a yellow film over the entire tub, which scared us, so unfortunately we didn't use. The floater which was supposed to house chemicals/chlorine was empty.
There was also no instruction booklet at the house. Most rental houses I've ever been to have an instruction book, which tells you specifics on how to use certain things (like the hot tub), where to put the trash, what day the pickup is, etc.. The addition of something like this would be helpful for future guests. We reached out to the property manager about the trash, as the outside receptacle was full and it appeared a critter had gotten in. She told us that the trash day was Thursday (the day of our departure), but that she wouldn't be able to get over there until after we left. We did our best to clean up the mess from the critter, and took the cans to the street, but there was still quite a mess left behind (which we think is above and beyond to ask a guest to clean up).
Overall, we made due, and had a fantastic time. This is a great house, but it is just in need of some TLC.
