About this house rental
Located in Kihei, this attractive house for $473 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. OUR MAUI BEACH HOUSE... (Please read our Guest Comments to see how great this place is!) This is the perfect place for a family vacation and retreat!! And it is right on the beach! Many of our guests enjoy staying right on our property or on our beach -- no need to leave. SOLAR POWERED: Most all of the energy required to run our home comes from the fabulous Maui sun and the solar panels on our roof. LOCATION: Right on a sandy Kihei beach, four miles north of Wailea. Walk just a few steps from the living room and deck to the lawn and sandy beach. Enjoy long walks on our sandy beach. Spectacular ocean views and sunsets from the living room, deck, and master bedroom - views of Lanai, Kahoolawe, Molokini, and West Maui. Kayak in front of the house to see the turtles! DESCRIPTION: A large (1,250 square feet!!) two bedroom, three bath custom redwood townhouse which we built in 1977 as a family retreat --with a fully-equipped kitchen and laundry. This is a comfortable beach house and we have done remodeling, refurnishing and updating recently. The master bedroom has a king bed, the second bedroom has twin beds and a queen bed. The duplex is on three separate levels, each with its own private bathroom. The adjoining townhouse is the only other unit on the property, and is also available for rent for larger groups. BEACH: A sandy beach with calm, reef protected waters. The living room and master bedroom have spectacular views of the beach, ocean, whales, West Maui, and sunsets. GOLF: Maui Nui Golf Club is three blocks away, Wailea’s famous golf courses are four miles away, and all of Maui’s other courses are within easy driving distance. TENNIS: Public courts are a few blocks away in either direction, more are nearby. SNORKELING, SURFING, PADDLE SURFING and WINDSURFING: Beyond the reef right in front of the house, and at any of several nearby beaches. Maui Dive Shop is one block. Rig up on the front lawn and sail right from the beach. SWIMMING POOL: Kihei Aquatic Center is two blocks away. SHOPPING: One block away: restaurants, grocery store, post office, banks, bakery, etc. CLEANING: The unit is professionally cleaned and prepared before your arrival. Keywords: Right on the beach !!

If you are looking for places to stay in Kihei, Maui look no further!!! This townhouse is truly amazing. It has a fully stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, beautiful lanai, rolling lawn right to the beach which you feel is your own. I can't say enough good things about this property, except we didnt want to leave. Also there is a supermarket literally a 3min walk, plus lots of restaurants. Thank you again Doug for sharing your beautiful home with us.

We were coming to Maui for our 20th wedding anniversary and plans changed with the fires and we were lucky enough to stumble across this rental. The Shermans home is breathtaking! The history of the home made it more magical for our celebration. Clean is an understatement. It had everything we could possibly need for everyday usage and the beach! We enjoyed our adventures out and coming home to this place was a bonus. There is absolutely no need for a/c so do not let that scare you away, you will be missing out. The inside the house is gorgeous and well the immediate beach access and those views from the house will be forever engrained in our souls. We were able to get in a little bit earlier and contact with the property manager and access was a piece of cake! Our stay was truly dreamy. I hope when we come back to visit Maui that we can get this place or hopefully get just as lucky. It was PERFECT and worth every single penny spent!

We had an amazing time. The house is very much as described. Beautiful sunsets right out the back door. The beach is located right over the sand dune - and even though it's not actually a private beach - because of the location, it almost seems that way. We had one issue with the dryer that was taken care of immediately! Great place, great time, great hosts! Thanks Doug!

Beautiful home on a beach that felt very private. Watched sea turtles and sunsets on the beach right in front of the house. Had everything that we needed at the house, including beach chairs. Was a couple block walk to the grocery store and restaurants. Perfect house in the perfect location! The host was very quick to respond to any questions that we had. Would definitely stay again!

Our view from the home was incredible.
Each morning we were greeted with a slight breeze and blue skies. We toasted each evening's sunset with champagne and enjoyed the ocean view from the patio.

We loved our stay! Beds were comfortable, house was exactly as described, communication with the manager was excellent! The beach is right over the the grass hill and the sand was so soft! Easy entry to the water if you want to swim or rent paddle boards. We had a great stay!

This property delivered on all of the promises of the listing. The location offered great privacy, sunsets, and access to food and shops within walking distance. It was well equipped with everything we needed in the kitchen and for the beach. Nice architecture and construction. Great communication from the host. I highly recommend it!

Had a great stay at Doug’s townhome! Doug was very responsive and proactive in his communication. Really appreciated the 70’s vibe and quick access to the beach. The house was well appointed with everything we needed. We were grateful for the beach chairs, towels and umbrella. Primary bedroom was so light and breezy and the bed was comfy. We stayed in late April and had absolutely no need for air conditioning.
The layout of the home is a little quirky and there’s a few steps to the kitchen without a railing so anyone with mobility issues or with small children may have a bit of trouble. Also there are sand dunes and a rolling yard to navigate so that to could also be a challenge.
As others have stated, there is a large empty lot with public access to the beach next door (separated by tall bushes) which did get a bit loud a few times with cars revving their engines, or loud music , but it really didn’t last that long. We expected random people walking through the lawn between the house and the beach because of the previous reviews , but it was definitely something we had to get used to.
The beach was beautiful and serene. We could walk out into the ocean for at least 200-300 yards and water was only to our waist. Would definitely recommend some water shoes! We enjoyed snorkeling and swimming with the sea turtles!
Kihei is a cute town, but we were a little disappointed in the walkability of it. Yes, there is a grocery store that you can walk to, but as far as walking to shops and restaurants, everything seemed to be in a strip mall. We honestly spent a lot of time up the coast in Lahaina when we wanted to eat out and shop.
We would definitely recommend Doug’s home to families with older children or for any group of able bodied adults.

We are so happy staying at Doug's house in Kihei... The location is great, the house itself is comfortable, and communication with Doug and Marti (the property manager) was excellent. I 100% recommend staying here! Waking up every morning to the sound of the ocean and seeing the palm trees swaying in the wind was a true dream come true.

What a dream!! Loved everything about this home. The home itself has that 70s vintage Hawaiian vibe (that I absolutely love), the breeze throughout was wonderful, the sunrise and sunsets from the deck incredible. We are so glad we found this property. It was exactly what we were looking for to be centrally located for the activities we wanted to do during our stay and away from the dense tourist areas. The house was as advertised and well-appointed with the necessities: towels. toilet paper, dish soap, paper towels, bathroom soaps, etc. We only needed to buy some laundry detergent with our groceries. The location is peaceful. We rented SUPs for the week and went out for a paddle almost every morning. Paddling out past the reefs, you have calm waters and no risk of reef/rocks if falling. The house had 4 beach chairs and a beach umbrella for lazy beach days as well. The water in front of the house has some rocks and reefs with a small sandy area, however I recommend some cheap water shoes if you have sensitive feet and want to be in the water a lot. The land next to the property is a public access to the beach and you may have a few people walking from there in front of the house, but it is still much quieter than the resort beaches and it is really of no detriment to the privacy of the property. Maui has a growing homeless problem; however, this location wasn't a big issue as I believe local security helps manages this well. I'm certain if we had any issues, Doug or the property manager would have handled them immediately. Doug proactively reached out multiple times during the week to ensure we were having a great time. Highly recommend.

Beautiful spot, lovely sunsets and stars, shopping and swimming facilities near by, great communications by owner. It's a small rustic place in a lovely place. Property itself was a three star experience in a 5 star location - also note that the garden you see in the photos is open to the public.

The pictures are very accurate. The property is right on the beach and provides great sunsets. The west-facing direction of the townhome is a plus in the morning because the rooms stays cooler. The lack of air conditioning is not a problem at all due to the trade winds. There is an emplty lot to the immediate right of the townhouse which provides an sense of openness to the property. There is a well-equipped full grocery store one block away which is very convenient. The roosters can be annoying at night but that is an issue all over Maui and there is nothing the owner can do about it. The property is very clean, well supplied and well maintained. The communications with the owner were excellent. Highly recommended for a family.

This is a wonderful place to stay in a friendly village that provides numerous convenient amenities within short walking distance. The property is located in the middle of a particularly long stretch of sandy beach, so it is really enjoyable for long beach walks both north and south in Kihei. The host/owner was prompt and responsive to all inquiries. We had no needs or complaints arise during our weeklong stay; so, my communication with the host was merely to facilitate check-in and check-out, both of which went quite smoothly.
The proximity to the beach made it convenient to equip ourselves with weekly rentals of kayaks and boogie boards. I could haul the kayaks back and forth by sliding them across the lawn (about 30 yds), and 2 young teens could do so with teamwork by carrying them by the handles. There was space to store this gear securely underneath the deck when we went elsewhere for adventures.
It was nice to have a large charcoal grill available, and we used it several times during our stay. We were 4 in number, and the grill was probably large enough to cook for 6, including all the burgers and pineapple slices you might need for that number.
Besides the grill, we cooked inside several times, and the kitchen was equipped suitably with various utensils, pans, containers, etc. for our needs. Having the neighborhood grocery store within walking distance contributed to a relaxing nature to our dining experiences, because we simply walked back and forth in 3-4 minutes with what we needed for the day or the meal at the time.
I have nothing besides gratitude and thanks for this property, the hosts, and the time we had as friends and family to vacation at their home in Kihei.

Check in process was easy. House was very clean. Views are spectacular. Fans help since there is no AC. Windows and sliding doors are a little difficult to open/close as they are aged. Kitchen is very nice and functional. Plenty of bathrooms. Having kids in the room on the first floor and parents in the uppermost floor worked out great since they are teenagers. Location is central and convenient. Would recommend this to others.

Everything about our stay was fantastic! The property was exactly how it was described and in the photos (even better!) and the location was perfect, right on the beach. We really felt like we were miles away from the hustle and bustle of town, yet it was right around the corner. We traveled with our 2 teenagers (16 & 19) and they always had plenty to do. And did I mention the sunsets and turtles? Amazing. The property came with 4 beach chairs and an umbrella which were perfect

Wonderful location, older house
This is a fabulous location with beach access a short walk across a front lawn with palm trees. The house is older, with great architecture, but darker wood paneling and the lack of good lighting make it near-impossible to read at night. Kitchen appliances are dated and problematic (dishwasher doesn't close properly, ice maker doesn't work ).

Perfect spot to watch the beautiful sunset in Maui. Kids could play in the sand, in the lawn. Kitchen has good amenities for a mom to cook for the kids! The check-in process could have been better with more light over the safebox area. Very happy with the owner and manager of the property!

We loved everything about it, you can’t get a better location in Kihei. If you’re looking for a place where you can relax, walk around, be right on the beach… this is your place. Most places to visit are a quick drive to anyway so you don’t really miss anything. We most definitely recommend this place and plan on coming back!
