Situated in Lake Santeetlah, this attractive house for $600 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. This is a complete gut renovation and addition to a small family cottage that has been in the family for more than 40 years. The "re-imagining" of the house took a small one level 1800sf 3-bedroom house to a brand new 3500sf 5 bedroom home on Lake Santeetlah, NC. All of the main bedrooms have views of and access to the lake. A large double height "great room" provides a grand common space with incredible views for cooking and eating while also still providing smaller cozy spaces for privacy including an amazing loft. And large decks on every level provide plenty of outdoor space for enjoying the amazing views and outdoor living. It also includes a private dock on quiet island/peninsula with only 6 houses. Perfect for families or groups of adults. ***PLEASE NOTE: the existing reviews before 2024 are before the complete "to the studs" renovation and addition.**** Lake Santeetlah has 76 miles of coastline, but only about 2 miles are developed - the rest is surrounded by a National Forest. Very Quiet and peaceful. Great for families, watersports, fishing, boating. Awesome hiking, kayaking, camping and outdoor sports nearby. Fishing includes smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, crappie, bream, and lake trout. There are over 200 miles of hiking trails in the area, and one can hike eight miles from Lake Santeetlah to the Appalachian Trail. The nearby Cheoah River is noted for its Class IV and V whitewater rapids. Lake Santeetlah adjoins a portion of U.S. 129 called the Tail of the Dragon, a road frequently used for recreational purposes by motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts because of its purported 318 curves in 11 miles. The check in process was seamless. The lockbox worked as described. The home was spotlessly clean. The beds were comfortable and the linens were very nice. The kitchen was very well stocked with not only dishes, serving wear, pots and pan, but also spices and oils and vinegar. But the view is the reason we came and we were not disappointed. It is fabulous. We thoroughly enjoyed the dock and the lake. We even rented a pontoon boat for a couple days. We want to come back again!!!!

That being said, we enjoyed the property and even saw an otter down by the dock.

Older home but perfect for a family get away to the lake in the mountains. The view from the deck and dock are priceless. If you want a cabin on the lake feel this is it. Don't tell anyone! We will book again.

Comfortable cabin with fantastic views
This property is located right on the lake with fantastic views of the mountains all around. The cabin is cozy, clean and well stocked. We felt very comfortable here and loved swimming and boating on the lake. If you like nature, there is lots to see and do in the area. We took several scenic drives and three wonderful hikes. We were looking for a place to get away from it all due to COVID-19 and this was the perfect getaway.

Simply Perfect
This is the family lake house everyone wish they had in their family. It felt like going to Nana's house and we loved every minute of it. The lake and view are unparalleled and the accommodations comfortable. Having Wifi was a bonus and even better was having a cell phone signal!
For those with small kids or old dogs, we did have one issue with the deck--our older dog fell from the deck while sleeping as there is no railing under the bench that surrounds it. It's just something to be aware of.

Wonderful and relaxing
The cottage was wonderful for our family. The huge living room and large kitchen made our vacation relaxed with plenty of room for everyone. The canoe and swimming in the lake was marvelous. We will be back.

Perfect location
The house was true to the description and very comfortable. Windows graced the length of the spacious great room, yielding a clear view of the lake and ample light.The spacious deck and dock were the keynotes to this rental, affording Southern views , a lovely swimming cove, and access to the main body of the lake. Communication with the rental agent was smooth and timely. The driveway was very manageable (not severely sloped as some houses are on Lake Santeetlah.) This was our second time renting a home in this community, and we would return to this house again.

Paradise Lake
We enjoyed a week of quiet beautiful tranquility on the nicest lake in the Southeast.
The cabin is clean and nothing fancy. Boat dock is a plus. We rented a boat from Santeetlah Marina a half mile away.
Good fishing also on the lake and nearby creeks.

HIDDEN GEM IN PARADISE!
If you are searching for that perfect cabin in the mountains with spectacular lakeside views, check out the Han Lakeside Cottage located on pristine Santeetlah Lake. Our family of 3 rented this property for a week and to be honest, we could have stayed here forever. Not only is this lakeside cottage located on Thunder Island, it sits in its own cove, away from constant jet ski and boat traffic. I’m not saying there is no traffic, but we have been returning to Santeetlah Lake for over 8 years now and have found this cottage to be the most peaceful and quiet location of all the cabins and bungalows we’ve stayed at. At this cabin you will not have a need for anything in the kitchen to cook and serve with. Everything is provided for you. Everything is provided for you for your convenience, we cooked breakfast/lunch/dinner daily as in the comfort of our own home. Speaking of comfort, this cottage provided comfort and cleanliness to our satisfaction. We would like to thank Russell for going above and beyond making our trip happen. Stellar communication throughout our visit. Seriously awesome renters. A bonus to the cottage location is the super easy drive in and out into the driveway. Cross a bridge onto the island and pull right up to cottage, easy peasy. Wait till you sit on the porch and take in the views, truly a hidden gem in paradise!

Loved our stay at this spacious home on the lake with easy to use dock and wonderful porch views. House is clean and well stocked kitchen, games, CD player and TV (limited, but who cares at the lake?). Best part was being able to enjoy our vacation with our dog as well. Cabin Rental
The house we rented had a beautiful of the lake and mountains. We felt it needs some updating. Toilets and TV did not work well. Kitchen was fine and well stocked. Loved the view and peace and quiet.

Spectacular views, quiet location, and the best swimming in the South!
My husband and I chose this spot to gather with our grown son, his wife, and our two-year-old grandson. We enjoy swimming, fishing, paddleboarding, canoeing, walking, birdwatching, and hiking. This rental has a wonderful view of the lake and the mountains in the distance and the forest across the lake. We were treated to a full moon rising over the lake waters all week. The cabin has a very nice, open floor plan with a large living space and windows looking out at the lake. The dining table is sturdy and large--a perfect place to gather with family for a meal. The deck is a lovely place to sit and listen to the quiet--oh, and to the hummingbirds that argue over nectar rights at the feeder. I swam at least twice every day, my husband caught a beautiful bass his first day tossing a line into the cove, and my son spent all week fishing from a canoe all around the lake. The cabin is very simple--not fancy. It's very accommodating, providing for all our basic needs. The beds were comfortable enough, the showers and bath work well, and the kitchen was spacious and had most of what we needed to prepare all our meals in house. There are plenty of games and two very good TVs. We all left feeling restored and refreshed.

Perfect 👌. Family Vacation = wonderful Memories 💙💚
My husband & I rented this for ourselves, 3 kids, 1 son in law, & 2 grandsons. Perfection = Fantastic Memories. Canoeing with the littles, to renting a boat and cruising the lake, to our oldest grandson catching his first fish 🎣�. Nights spent looking at fireflies, to late night games with all the adults 😍� the mommy and daddy got to whitewater raft while our other 2 kids zip lined the Nantahala Gorge while GraNa & Pop spent the day with the littles in Bryson City, seeing the trains and eating ice cream 🍦�. Took the family to Unto These Hills and everyone enjoyed it. Can’t wait to do it again! ❤️💙�💖�💝�🖤�💙�💚�

Not the fanciest place, but we spent most of our time outside on the deck, dock and boat. Inside seating very comfortable. Liked the open floor plan. Plenty of room. Planning a return trip.

Simple escape
My husband, our dogs and I love visiting the area. The house was a perfect base for us to return after hiking, paddling and boating. The kitchen is well appointed and it was very easy to make meals. The location was great; we loved being on the island. It was relatively easy to get down to the dock unlike some other homes. The parking situation could not be any better; it was very easy to get in and out and plenty of room. And, of course the view from the room is beautiful. We would definitely consider staying here again!
