This is a gem of a getaway cabin. We will be coming back here. Lovely little beach, great dock, everywhere there are swings and rocking chairs, and the beds are comfy. We needed a relaxing getaway from. Our family histle and this place and its proprieters were just the ticket. Fun little surprises all throughout the property. Easy communication with Katy. Having shades on all the windows is a huge bonus!

Upon arrival my husband and I hadn’t even walked into the property before The Owner was standing in the front doorway. He proceeded to tell us where everything was and tell us about previous guests and problems he had with them. He stayed for a while. It was odd and my husband and I just smiled and nodded with our bags still in our hands. After he left we realized there was cheese left on the counter and a half drunk sprite in the fridge. In addition there were spider webs everywhere Inside the home and literally covering every part of the outside of the home. In order to use anything outside we had to take towels and wipe down everything from spiders eggs, webs and wasp nests that had been built inside everything. It’s the country but this was excessive for it to be a rental and for the property owner to literally live right next door. All of this happening would not have warranted a bad review in my opinion. However, on Saturday my children were outside playing croquet and ran into a wasp nest on the property by the tree. The wasps started flying and my kids used the mallets to fend off the wasps. Owner was inside his home but was clearly watching and runs out of his home and proceeds to yell at my kids and curse at them. He yelled “it’s for playing croquet not for beating the **BLEEP**out of the tree!!!”. Obviously they were not just beating the tree but trying to kill the wasps. Several times while my kids were outside He was watching them as they played and would just glare at them. On Saturday night hours later my daughter was playing frisbee with her dad and the frisbee went on the roof. Dad put her on his shoulder to try to reach it and couldn’t. About 30 seconds later He came over with a ladder because, again, he was watching us from inside his house while we were outside playing. It was an extremely unsettling feeling. Then Sunday when we were packing up to leave and he left a note on our car saying standard rates were only for 1-4 guests and he was charging extra because we went beyond that amount. First of all I have a family of 5 and the reservation included them from the begin but I messaged the owner prior, getting additional approval for two more who were coming from out of town to watch my daughter’s dance competition which is why we were in town, and we were told that was fine. There was NO mention of additional charges for anyone AT ALL. Overall we were VERY uncomfortable and feel it’s NOT a place for children!!!

* Location: It is a fabulous spot on the lake with a large yard for lots of activites.
* Owners: They are friendly and easily accessible.
CONS
* BUGS: Spiders, ants and wasps, OH MY!! Spider webs covered every outdoor surface, from windows to seats to docks. We spent 30 minutes brooming off surfaces so that we could relax. We found a wasp nest in the bucket next to the bench and another in the eave.
* BEDDING: The beds were extremely soft and the pillows were worthless. Everyone, from Grandpa to the teens, complained of back/neck pain and uncomfortable sleep.
*UPKEEP: With old furniture and stained walls, its not a fancy place for the price.
*MONITORING: The owner watch you from their windows when you are outside. Inside, there are notes everywhere that made you feel watched inside.
We loved the lake and the yard -- the rest not so much. Hope this helps you make a fully informed decision.

This cabin is very roomy, with plenty of sleeping spots. Beautiful inside, and relaxing outside. All you need is food and fishing equipment and you're set. It even has a washer and dryer. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely visit again. Thank you.

Property is right on the water with nice dock and large yard for outdoor activities. Great location, short drive to town for dinner, groceries and bait shop! Also short drive for a night in DFW. The property was very nice and we had a fabulous time. However the owner is accusing us of smoking in their house! We would never do this! How dare you accuse my family of this! We have one member that smokes and they know better than this! I don’t allow people to smoke in my own home so why would let someone smoke in your home?! I don’t believe that you smelled smoke in your house. Now this property owner is charging a damage deposit with no proof of this happening! What do to do sit in your house and spy on the guests trying to figure out something they have done wrong so you can charge them the damage deposit?! I had a bad feeling when I booked this property from some of the other reviews about this property.

A Relaxing Lakefront Weekend!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing weekend away! Buddy & Katy were both friendly and eager to make our visit an enjoyable one. The cabin is very comfortable (one small issue for our family of five was one bathroom). The tree-covered lawn is beautiful, and the location of the property on the lake couldn't be better! We hope to make it back often in the future!

The cabin check-in, communication were excellent. The home is spacious and very clean. The dock is very nice and the lake was surprisingly quiet. It had most everything you need.

Great Family Vacation!
Normally you will find my family of 5 on the beach in Alabama in the summer but with my recent surgery we had to keep it close to home. Looking around I ran across Katy & Buddys little slice of heaven on Eagle Mountain Lake. I was worried the kids would be disappointed not being at the beach but I have to say if we didnt have a better time it was near close! This little slice of heave was about 45 minutes from home & felt far away! Waking up, drinking coffee on the porch swing over looking the water while my daughter was on the huge tree swing was pretty close to perfect! All accommodations were great ( towels, soaps, pots and pans etc) We spent most of our time outside on the private dock swimming and fishing the days away. Just a heads up, there is a buffalo fish down at the end of the dock we named "the myth" we hooked him FOUR times but none of us could get him caught! He is atleast 30lbs and about a foot long if not longer but there are PLENTY of catfish to catch, we caught about 13! They love stinky bait and weenies. If I had to tell you the only "off" thing that I would want someone to know about the location, you need to know that the owners do live on property and by on property I mean you are in their backyard. ( its a huge backyard but they are close) So if you are looking for privacy this may not be the place for you, but for us we didn't mind it a bit and it worked out perfect. We will for sure be back! We are thinking another trip in the fall sometime! Thanks Buddy & Katy for your hospitality and allowing us to stay in your beautiful home away from home! God Bless The Mayes Family

Special Place to Relax and Enjoy
Buddy and Katy are wonderful hosts and very welcoming. The cabin is immaculate and has everything we need along with plenty of extras. It is such a beautiful and peaceful setting that it’s hard to believe it is so close to the busy life at DFW. We brought my parents here this time as well as my in-laws another time and they all love it as much as we do. It is such a special place and the fishing is definitely a bonus. Many thanks!!

Gorgeous view!
We really enjoyed our extended weekend here! The view is amazing and the cabin is absolutely adorable! Katy and Buddy are super sweet. They provided everything we needed for our stay and answered any questions we had. The house seems quite remote but there's a Walmart, Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and some nice restaurants about 10-15 minutes away. Definitely recommend!

Under a microscope
Not only we were told gate would be opened when we got there it was like they were rushing to have it cleaned before we entered. One of the owners were sweeping the floor.
We were told after that the valve in bathroom leaked.
We had people come out on Saturday to spend time with us as a family group and the owners were seen taking pictures. We felt like we were under a scope the whole time. For the price the rental was for the weekend my kids were like can we leave.
The spider webs were out of control and the dock had them on everything. If you say on any bench chair or swing the webs had to be wiped off. Ithe kids stated that they watch a spider building a web in the upstairs loft area and the for them not to have sprayed down the windows the area where kids will be is not acceptable.
The view was great but unless you want to be watched 100% of the time I advice find another location.

We had a great relaxing time. The cabin was clean and well stocked. Great views of the lake. We really enjoyed our stay.

Peaceful
Very serene and peaceful setting. Log cabin was lovely. Very clean and had everything you could possibly need. Katy and Buddy were very helpful and hospitable; made sure we had firewood and fire starters as well as a lighter. It was cold and windy so we didn’t spend much time on the boat dock, but it’s stocked with fishing rods and gear if you want to fish off the dock. Also have a canoe and kayak for paddling on the lake. They have a gas and charcoal grill, with charcoal supplied. Plenty of balls for kids, horseshoes and cornhole game. Would totally recommend!
