About this house rental

Situated in New Fairfield, this attractive house for $435 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Rustic vacation get-away. Tranquil four-bedroom, 2-bath cottage on Lake Candlewood. Lovely blue-stone patio at the water with spectacular views of lake. Western exposure. Oversized dock for swimming. Large screened porch with dining and sitting area. Play yard off porch. One-acre wooded lot with driveway to house. Located in quiet Lattins Cove in no-wake zone. Peaceful country feeling, but 5 minutes to stores, restaurants and I-84. This house was built by my grandfather and my father and uncle during the Great Depression. My grandfather had the foresight to buy land on Lake Candlewood as the lake was being created. (Candlewood is the largest man-made lake in Connecticut, with 92 miles of shoreline.) The property has been the heart and soul of our family since it was built. Countless family gatherings have taken place here with great love and laughter. We are renting it for a few weeks each summer to help pay for the ever-increasing property taxes. Please note that this is a rustic, traditional lake cottage, not a new-construction investment house. The house offers many wonderful features for those who love to be at a lake during the summer. It is not for everyone, however. The house was built in the 1930s, and while we have updated many aspects of it, it is still a nearly one-hundred year old house, with its quirks that require a degree of patience. We'd love to have you enjoy this lovely spot, with this knowledge of our home.

We've had a fantastic stay at the lake in this house. It's an older house with a lot of historical charm, and is very well taken care of by the owner who was very responsive and helpful to our questions. The massive screened porch was fantastic for being able to enjoy outdoors even in any weather. The view from the dock, especially towards the north, was amazing. The main essentials were provided, there was plenty of seating on the porch and dock, etc. The house itself is on a fairly steep property, so the driveway is a bit tricky on the first try (just go slowly), but not a problem afterwards. To go down to the lake there's also a bit of steps as a heads up for people with limited mobility. Landscaping is amazing - a lot of trees for shade, many plants, flowers, wildlife, and so on. Lots of shopping just a short drive few minutes away which was a fantastic change of pace as my past stays required long drives to get to 'civilization' from other lake houses. The house itself is not too far from a marina so there is some boat traffic, but they go by at low speed and the traffic and the noise from it was low at the time that we were there. No noise at all at night. Very recommended for a lakefront getaway that is still close to civilization.

The host could not have been any better. She was always in communication and very helpful. The house is right on the lake and there is a no wake zone so, you don't have to worry about wave rocking the dock all the time. There is a perfect area for kids to swim and very friendly steps down to the lake. There are also some floats to use in the lake. It's very close to shopping and dinning. The house is a little on the older side but very clean. We did notice the house stays very cool and the bedroom ACs are more than enough to keep it comfortable. We will likely rent again next summer.
