You’ll wake to the sound of waves, sit on your open lanai and see nothing but aquamarine water and morning sky. The ocean is right there in front of you, just a few steps away. This beach bungalow was designed in the 1960s and has been decorated by a Hawaiian-born artist, whose paintings of the Mokuleia ocean, sky and landscape hang on the walls. - THE BEACH - The Sand Dollar Cottage offers a stunning view of a beach that stretches for miles in either direction; ideal for swimming, walking and snorkeling in the coral reef. You rarely see anyone and have warm water, day and night! - THE NEIGHBORHOOD - A twelve minute drive down a country road will take you to the famous surfing town of Haleiwa; where you can dine in one of the many restaurants and shop for clothes, local art, shave ice and fresh fish, steaks and produce. The Colony has a beautiful guest-only pool and five minutes up the road towards Ka’ena Point, there’s kite surfing and skydiving. - FROM THE OWNERS - The home has more return guests than any other in our inventory, but after years of 5 star ratings it has recently received some critical reviews. The owners have taken these to heart and have addressed all maintenance issues in the house. Below is a word from the owners: Aloha to all of our longtime guests. Wanted you to know we spent a couple of weeks in March renovating and restoring 13B. It needed it. You'll find a new kitchen: counters, cabinets, sink, faucet and a new glass-top stove. We also painted the unit, put in a new, higher vanity, sink and faucet, and new outdoor lighting. We restored all the louvers and jalousies that needed it and even added a more powerful modem for better WiFi. We left the ocean view and sunsets alone since no one could improve that. Smoking strictly prohibited at Mokuleia Beach Colonies, both indoors and outdoors and pets are not permitted on the property. Service animals are permitted only with prior approval of the Mokuleia Beach Colony board. The State of Hawaii prohibits smoking in public parks and at all beaches. There are no areas near the unit designated for smokers. We really enjoyed being where we could relax. The cottage and the surrounding area was perfect, getting us away from traffic but leaving us easy access to the things we wanted to do. We would definitely rent again if we make it back.

Beautiful views of the North Shore. This rental is a little gem for those that don't want to stay in a touristy area. Private, safe and perfect for a couple. No air conditioning but we adjusted quickly. Very quiet, gated community that smells of Plumeria trees. Just breathtaking!

Sand Dollar Cottage is located in Mokuleia Beach Colony Resort. This place is a hidden gem on Oahu. The property is well maintained, the landscaping is gorgeous and it is very quiet and peaceful. Sand Dollar Cottage is located directly oceanfront. The cottage itself is very simple and clean. The view from your lanai, the stars at night and the sound of the ocean is magnificent. We've stayed here 5 times and can't wait to come back!

Very relaxing 10 days, quiet and layed back. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The views were beautiful and I saw turtles everyday.. two days in a row I saw a harp seal catching and eating fish in the water directly in front of our patio. A bit warm as the breezes off the ocean die down in the evenings. The fans helped. I definitely would return to this spot. It’s a studio and small, but it was perfect for just the two of us.

Our stay here was excellent. Waking up to the ocean right out front and mountains in the background. It was gated so we felt pretty safe. There was a plumbing issue that was dealt with promptly and everyone on the grounds was friendly. I hope to one day make it back there. It’s perfect for our family and our little honeymoon.

I spent 1 week in the Sand Dollar Cottage with partner and kids. The cottage offered everything we needed; we enjoyed our dinners on the porch while watching the sunset and beaches and nature walks were in very close proximity. The interior is a little dated and there is no aircon.

I came for a week with my son after a week on the Big Island for a tour group. The community was beautiful done, being gated made us feel even more secure during our stay. The unit we has is right on the beach and we couldn't have asked for better. We wanted to relax and this was the perfect.place to stay and relax. We had access to the pool but the ocean was what called us. If I could I would buy this unit, that's how much we loved it. Having the constant breeze was amazing. The unit itself was ocean front and well done. We would recommend upgrading the ceiling fan but it worked well, my son just gets overheated easily. All in all we didn't want to leave.

Cottage was PERFECT! Location is great if you want a peaceful vacation. 10-15 minute drive into Haleiwa. The pool was a nice change from the ocean, everyone on the property was kind. Very low key. You are literally ON the water, at low tide you can walk the beach right out front. We would go down the steps and walk a few minutes to the left where the water was clear and swim. Lots of turtles right outside. Beach chairs & the bbq were used often! We will definitely come back to this location!!

The rental management company was very helpful and courteous. I called a couple times with questions and Anna got right back to me. The Sand Dollar was located in a very quiet, well kept residential complex. The view out the kitchen door was absolutely fantastic! The apartment itself was VERY dated, had rusty kitchen appliances, and broken inside louvered shutters(not what we were expecting for the location).

This place is exactly what we like. It's quiet. The ocean is right out the door. There aren't any crowds. You feel like the little slice of beach is all yours. The house was clean when we arrived. It has all the amenities needed to feel right at home. For coffee drinkers, bring ground coffee with you to the house. It is a standard Mr Coffee maker and there were plenty of filters already there. This property was a wonderful place to stay.

The location and view are fantastic! The best on North Shore. The unit itself is dated. The furnishings are adequate, but need replaced much sooner rather than later and do not properly reflect the great location.The property manager on site only takes care of the common areas and are not allowed to enter the units (or so they told us). The company that collects your money doesn't seem to do much more than that. The owner, at least with us, was uninvolved in anyway. We likely would stay there again solely because of the spectacular view, and just tolerate the rest, I suppose.

Quiet, great view, with well equipped kitchen and plenty of staples ie paper products etc.Our one suggestion is that the floors be more properly cleaned before the arrival of new guests as they were not clean when we arrived.Also, we had no direction to actually locate our cottage when we first arrived, but after hit and miss we found ur!

This has been a wonderful place to stay. A gated area that I felt very secure and safe. We were located right at the beach and loved every moment. It was hard to go inside even to sleep.
If you want room service and fussing over, this is not your place. Would go again in a heartbeat.

If you’re looking for a very quiet and remote location, this is for you. Beautiful views, and sounds of the ocean are the best feature of this place. The cottage itself needs a lot of up dating and needs to be cleaned thoroughly. Taking into consideration that is humid and wet The place is musty although it was tidy, it was not the really cleaned. During a large rain storm that entire patio flooded with 2 inches or more of water, with no drainage it all pooled front of the front door. We had to squeegee it off in order to not track large amounts of water inside of the house. This could be a hazard. The house is located close to North Shore which provides shopping and restaurant options.

Very nice place to spend a vacation. If it has air conditioning it would have been perfect. The view is amazing and the quiet chilled out vibe is all Hawaii. It was a great place to unwind after checking out the island. I would recommend it to anyone who likes getting away to a nice country location. We spent a lot of time in Haleiwa which is minutes away.

So, there is a common saying with People who live in Hawaii, which is "you don't move to Hawaii for the house", why? Cause homes are really expensive and you normally don't move someplace expensive unless you really want to be here, thus, the real reasons. The weather, the ocean and all that comes with it, the breezes, the flowers, I could go on, but you get the point.
To be as brief as I can, this is a relatively inexpensive villa on Oahu that is waterfront, both things are hard to find, let alone together. The villa is in a strict HOA managed community that is very well kept, beautiful, quiet and the residents keep it that way, so you're not gonna get away with anything here. The villa itself is smack dab, right on the ocean with beautiful views of both norther points of Oahu, Kaiena Point and Turtle Bay.
The villa is not what you come here for. The highlights are that it has adequate cooking pots/pans, dishes, etc. and it has a functional outdoor shower that is great and the mattresses, bedlinen and towels are comfortable and functional.
Downsides, the seating furniture is old, worn out and uncomfortable. They don't even have a lounge chair to sit outside under the shade of the nearby flowing trees. One of the best parts of a trip to Hawaii is a nap under the shade of a tree:) There is NO AIR CONDITIONING in the unit, which WILL TAKE a few days to get used to (I was stationed here in the military from 2002 - 2005) and once you get accustomed to it, it's lovely, but at first, it's hot. This unit also doesn't face the prevailing winds, so fans (of which they have a few old and wobbly) are absolutely necessary to fall asleep or to be indoors during the day.
Lastly, if you want to watch TV, it works, but it operates slowly like a 10 year old laptop that never had it's hard drive defragmented:)
For a place right on the water, in a quiet, clean, peaceful part of Hawaii with easy access to snorkeling, surfing and more on the North Shore, this place is great, but be ready to reset your expectations:). Aloha and Mahalo!

This was a great rental for the two of us. Out in the country and away from the hustle bustle. Nice manicured grounds with fragrant flowers, beautiful sunsets, long beach strolls at low tide. We loved being way out in the country and my husband loved being able to kitesurf down-winders to Mokuleia Beach Park or drive a short distance to his favorite surf breaks.As far as the rental unit, we would definitely stay within the Mokuleia Beach Colony again but we would never stay in this unit again until it gets some much needed TLC. Previous reviews were not exaggerating the condition of the unit. It seems like it has been neglected for a long time and on an island everything requires constant maintenance. The doors and windows are corroding. The outside storage door is falling off. There were layers and piles of bug and dirt debris behind furniture and curtains. (Behind the bed and dressers was especially scary!) The floor was filthy. The sliding door and screen were so dirty we could not see out. We spend half of our first day there cleaning just to get it basically clean. We are "wash & wear" and usually go camping but even we could not spend two weeks living in those conditions. We have previously lived in Hawaii and know to keep all our food in the fridge and to clean up after meals right away but we still had many many roaches.After our first full day we emailed property management to let them know the basic condition of the unit and to let them know that one of the kitchen chairs is broken, the TV remote is corroded and does not work, and the storage shed door is corroded and broken but we did not get a reply. This unit has so much potential and it is such a shame to see it quickly deteriorating.

The location of this bungalow is absolutely perfect - right at the water's edge. Listening to the waves at night really gave us a sense of peacefulness and we felt so lucky to see a gorgeous sunset every night. People from bungalows further back from the beach would bring chairs up to sit and enjoy the sunset. Also enjoyed walking the beach each day and spending hours with the kids in the water. Sunday afternoon Polo match next door was fun to check out too! Would be nice to update the apt though. Needs a little love and care. Management was very responsive and helpful though - brought us an extra fan as soon as I sent an email! Thank you! Never did see the fix-it guy who was supposed to repair the dishwasher though. Oh well, we weren't bothered with it anyway. Love the location though, so we will be back!
