The location is fine - on a hillside about 2 km outside of the town of Saissac. The room was fine in terms of size, bathroom, and kitchenette. The room opens onto a terrace with a nice view of the countryside. The area was quiet and peaceful. There was a little "relaxation room" where you could purchase snacks or regional wines at a reasonable price. They also had a lot of information on things to see and do in the surrounding area.
The room had a strong odor when we walked in. We didn't say anything, but we immediately opened the door and tried to air out the room, thinking that it had just been closed up too long. We put Vicks in our noses, and then we fell asleep in exhaustion from the travel. When we woke up, the smell was still very strong. And it was now clear that the odor was musk or urine from a cat (likely the lovely white cat who tried to dart into the room while we were relaxing on the terrace before our nap). We sent an SMS to the owner alerting him to the problem around 9:15 pm on Sunday night, but we did not hear back Sunday or Monday. On Monday, we bought a can of Febreeze at the local Carrefour and basically used the entire can spraying the room. Of course, it then smelled like the chemical scent of Febreeze. We again fell asleep with Vicks in our noses. On Tuesday morning, we still had not heard back from the owner. We decided that we could not stay another night trying to block out the smell. So, we packed up a day early and left. We sent a message to the owner letting him know that we were checking out early because of the odor.
After we were already gone, we heard back from the owner apologizing for the problem and saying that they didn't notice any odor when they went to the room on Tuesday afternoon. I'm assuming that by then the Febreeze had done its job and eliminated the problem and there had been enough time for the chemical odor to dissipate. They did offer to let us stay in another room on a future visit, so they handled the problem well - just too late for this particular trip.
