About this house rental

Situated in South Kona, this lovely house for $305 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Rick’s Place Discover how to REALLY relax! Would you like to relax in your own peaceful pool that you share with no one, listening to your favorite tunes, while contemplating the vast expanse of the ocean right in front of you - amazing whales, spinner dolphins and colorful fish, the sunsets, and complete serenity, for less than the price of a resort hotel room? Then our home will be perfect for you. If you are like us, you want to do nothing but relax and disconnect while on vacation. We don’t like resorts, eating every meal out, sitting around a pool with 100 other people. Rick’s Place is a cozy, romantic home, perfect for two. Unwind, enjoy each other’s company, and disconnect from your crazy busy life. We suggest stopping in town for a few groceries. Spend your days sitting around in the solar-heated pool, reading on the lanai or sitting by the sea wall. Watch the whales jump in the winter months (they will wake you up at night during whale season!), Enjoy cooking dinner on the gas barbeque or in our well-equipped kitchen while enjoying an icy cocktail. Milolii sunsets are the highlight of the day- no two are ever the same. Turn off all the lights and lay out on the chaise lounges and look at the moon and the Milky Way at night. Showering in the outdoor shower with the ocean breeze blowing on you is refreshing and revitalizing. There is good Wi-Fi and Direct TV on smart TVs, as well as a Blu-Ray player. There is a viewing area on the cliff where you can sit and contemplate the sea while enjoying your morning coffee or your evening libations. The Kona fishing fleet aims for the waters in front of the house, so sometimes you can witness a hook-up while staring out to sea (we provide binoculars). You can look down and see tropical fish and the occasional turtle swim by. Sometimes the surf is high and the waves crash against the cliff dramatically. One guest called the high surf “Hawaiian fireworks” which is a great description. The drive down from the highway takes you from 1500 ft. elevation to sea level across a lava flow. We remember our first impression! It’s a long, narrow, winding ride, but there are spectacular views on the way down. If you want to go to town every night or do a lot of sightseeing, the drive may be inconvenient. For a day trip every few days, it is no big deal. There is easy access to water and great snorkeling a short walk north of the house at the Milolii Beach Park. There are many beautiful beaches and good restaurants within an hour’s drive. Our house is centrally located between Kailua-Kona and Volcanoes National Park. If you need supplies during your stay, there are well-stocked grocery stores 20 minutes south, in Ocean View. Our home has one bedroom, 1.5 baths, plus an outdoor full bath with a shower overlooking the ocean. Every room in the house except the half bath offers up an ocean view. Kitchen is easy to cook in and is well-appointed, and the living area is furnished very comfortably and is open and breezy. Bedroom and living room glass French doors open to the ocean view and breeze. The wrap-around lanai includes a small solar heated pool. Our Hawaii Tax number# W26310508-01 STVR#19356815 NUC#19-888

This property comes as advertised: beautiful and well-equipped. We absolutely loved it. Dan was very welcoming, easy to reach, and provided detailed instructions to assist with the trip out.

My wife and I really enjoyed your home Dan. The way you decorated, your home was just the way we would’ve decorated our VRBO. Anywhere we sat, we could watch the ocean, we enjoyed the whales the first day we got there. The secluded neighborhood was fun to walk through and talk to the neighbors. The house was in a perfect spot to visit the southern end of the island for the first time for us. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils, lots of towels and we sure enjoyed the geckos sneaking into our wine glasses. :-). Will always remember this trip! Thank you so much!

This is the perfect place to get away from it all. We had stayed in Miloli’I before, just down the street, so we knew to bring supplies with us, and that the location was a bit out of the way. Which is one of the reasons we chose to stay at Rick’s Place. Ok I did forget my hairbrush and it was quite an adventure to find one. This is one of the best equipped properties we have ever stayed in. The kitchen has everything you need. I cooked daily. The relaxation began the moment we arrived. The house was decorated (we arrived Dec 23rd) with a small tree, lights and we opened the door to Hawaiian Christmas music and in time for sunset. I can’t describe how relaxing it is just to sit on the lanai and stare at the ocean or sit in the pool and stare at the ocean, take a shower and stare at the ocean or lay in bed and stare at the ocean do yoga on the lanai and stare at the ocean. The house is magical. I brought a kindle but found it more enjoyable to just grab one of the many paper books. Whales arrived on Christmas night. We had daily visits from them, a highlight of the trip. There were a few days that we had plans but decided just to stay at the house. We were there for New Year’s Eve, we watched the fireworks from the lanai. We haven’t relaxed as much on a trip in years, if ever. I am a big question asker and Dan was great dealing with my many questions and was quick with all his response. I have already been looking at the availability so I can book a return trip.

We stayed for 2 weeks and loved every moment. We have a farm in rural northern Colorado and prefer to be away from the city. This house was perfect. It felt like a true Hawaiian home. We spent most of our home time on the lanai, watching the water fireworks, enjoying the pool and hammock. Dan was super nice and wanted our time here to go well. Loved the gecko friends! Mahalo for sharing this special place!

We had a great time staying at this house. It is so relaxing and peaceful. A bit out of the way if you are wanting to sightsee everyday, but only a little over an hour from both Kona and Volcano National Park. We spent most of our time in the pool or sitting by the ocean. We met Dan and he was a great guy. Had told him we were celebrating our anniversary and asked if there were rafts available for the pool. When we arrived, there was a bottle of champagne in the fridge and two new rafts waiting for our use. Great gestures to start our stay. Would highly recommend staying here and we are actually already looking for dates next year.

Derek and I were celebrating our 35th anniversary and both of our birthdays. We were driving to the house around the 5 o'clock hour. We die not want to miss the sunset. We walked into the house where Hawaiian music greeted us. What a welcome! We couldn't stop looking around at everything. The layout of the house was great and so many fun things to look at. Then we stepped out onto the patio deck and once again we were stopped in our tracks. The lounge chairs; the hammock; the pool; the cliff deck; and best of all - the view! Oh, and the outdoor shower. I never took a shower inside - only the outdoor shower where I could see the ocean while cleaning up. We spent much of our week at the house. It is so inviting and comfortable. We relaxed in the pool with music playing on the outdoor speakers, watching the ocean for dolphins and sea turtles - we saw both! Dan was a wonderful host and it is obvious he loves his job and the house. The house was very clean and well-equipped. Everything we needed was there. Even a Thermal coffee carafe to enjoy coffee down on the cliff deck, where we spent each morning. When we visit the Big Island again, we are definitely going to try and book here again. We just want to thank Dan for the wonderful hospitality! Derek and Carol
