First, the location is amazing & all of the instructions provided were very detailed with great suggestions for local stores/restaurants. The house is spacious & yes, old, but our own house was built in 1930 so we appreciate the character of old houses. On arrival Wed evening we noted an exposed electric outlet in the sitting room. We have young kids so ok, put the dog kennel in front of it to block it, make a note to let the owner know & hurry to make dinner. The pots/silverware had dried food on them, no biggie we thought, we usually wash before use anyway but note a trend forming. We clean up head to bed & clean the wall due to the amount of accumulated dust above the headboard (purple room). In the morning we discover an army of ants all over the food on the counter. We're frustrated now but determined to focus on the positive. The rest of the day was great, we thought the kinks were all out after spraying the provided ant spray. Evening comes, we're sitting in the dinning room when my 65 y/o mother frantically rushes in from the back bath after watching a mouse scurry over the washer/dryer while going potty. That finally pushes us over the edge, we email the owner regarding these & some other issues that I can't even list here due to space. He quickly responds with several excuses & offers a refund that wouldn't even cover the cleaning+service fees. We're so upset we ask to sleep on it to respond outside the veil of anger. We explore the island the next day, get back the kids rush in to grab some chips, as we come in to help the youngest we see chips all over the floor, we remind them to be careful/not make a mess & see that chips are falling out of the bag the little one is currently eating from. They are eating out of the same bags the mouse has already been in. Another email & response stating this is a "normal" problem & another small refund offer as we basically just have a difference in opinion on what's an acceptable level of safety/cleanliness. Some other "opinions" we had, an arm chair & dinning room chairs with a broken leg, bed propped up with a book, ceiling fans with exposed wiring, smoke detectors that did not appear to be functioning(we tested after all of the electric concerns), a gaping hole at the bottom of the backdoor that could deter the "normal" occurrence of rodents if fixed. Most reasonable people expect at a minimum clean and safe accommodations which this house does not meet, I would caution

My family and I had a wonderful time. This was our first family trip and is more than what we expected. We didn’t want to leave.

The house is 2 blocks from Murdoch’s and the sea wall/beach. House is older but with updates to common areas. Upstairs rooms has 3 (comfortable!) queen beds and library and sunroom had twins. All upstairs rooms had a/c window units that kept the rooms comfortable and blocked all outside “noise”. Downstairs central a/c was a champ and LOTS of common space. Love it!

If you are a group of adults in need of a big place and like older historic houses a little rough around the edges close to the beach, pleasure pier and restaurants and entertainment than this a great location. The owner was attentive and easy to work with. For a lively bunch who enjoys fight night(the couple next door puts on a show), people watching and talking to unusual strangers on the front porch, this will fit the bill. Overall, we had a great time being together as a family and did our best to ignore the peculiar neighbors. Hopefully they won’t be there long as the owner mentioned they were working on evictions.

Overall, the house is a typical coastal property. We travel to the TX coast almost yearly. This particular property was definitely rough. The property manager was accommodating, There was 13 of us total and we all enjoyed the huge porch. The bathroom upstairs was very difficult to manuver as you have to step down about 4ft into the tub and then try to get back out. The overall cleanliness was not apparent at all. One of the comforters was flipped inside out with a huge stain or something on the flip side. We enjoyed being 1 block from beach and pier, that was accurate. The place has huge potential it just really needs to be renovated and have a deep clean. Just know the neighbors stay up late into the night fighting. They did this all 4 nights we were there. Again, used to this type of environment, just wish it had been conveyed to us. The manager did advise about an hour prior to check in maintenance issues that the "previous" tenant left. I do not agree that the issues we came across had just happened. I really hesitated in leaving this review as I truly do not like leaving negative feedback.

We loved staying at this house. Very comfortable sitting around talking and playing dominos, watching TV, baking cookies. Only 2 short blocks to the beach and easy walk to Pleasure Pier.

This was a great property. Had an issue getting check in code, but a quick message to the property owner, resulted in an immediate call back with the information. Full of historic charm and close to shopping, restaurants, and the beach! There were 9 of us with room for more comfortably. Our grandkids enjoyed it so much. Thanks for a great experience.

I am very happy with our stay at this property. It is really nice and spacious. All the reviews I read before making a decision on this property do not do any justice to how beautiful and cozy this home is. Mr. Rudy was always so prompt to respond to any questions I had. If you make a choice to rent this property you will not regret it!

Rudy has an amazing home, it’s very spacious and accommodating. Anything you could need at home is here. The house is also a short 3 min walk to the beach !!! My friends and I will definitely be booking again when we come to Galveston .

We had a great stay, and would recommend this property. Rudy was very responsive to anything we needed. Its an older house, but we saw that as a positive where we got to experience the true look, feel and history of Galveston. We had pets and the location was great for being able to take them on walks through the neighborhood, and its close enough to the beach we walked them on the seawall. The kitchen was fully stocked with pots, pans, utensils, and we cooked something almost every night. Loved the natural gas appliances. We used the propane grill one night for burgers, and it did the job and then some. I had room on the bottom level for all the patties and grilled peppers and hot dogs on the top. The A/C worked very well, and we even had small self-standing A/c units in almost every room if the central A/C wasn't exactly dialed in for that room. We had only one room that started out a little warmer than others, but again it wasn't an issue with the additional A/c units provided. In hot summertime this was a key thing for us. We did have a few flies get in, and a few insects here and there, but in the middle of Galveston in the hot summer thats to be expected in an older house. Definitely keep the amount of cars to a minimum so you can park up to 3 behind the house. If you park on the street you take your chances of getting dings from bicycles or other cars. We had one car parked there get scraped by another vehicle of some kind. The living room, dining room and large front porch were ideal for our large group with plenty of chairs and couches. The WiFi was strong throughout the house and used by several of our group constantly, and it held up for the most part. There were a couple of blips on one day where internet went down for a short period, but i was able to do remote work for the office on at least one of the days without issue. The neighbors kept to themselves other than a few waves here or there, and it was a nice quiet place to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.

Driving up you were like WOW, a 100 yo home. But then there were loose tiles when you walked up to the front porch. The front porch was beautiful. Breeze was awesome. We liked how open the home felt and how large the rooms were. Cleanliness was a concern: Kitchen and bathrooms left something to be desired. Pots/pans and some utensils need to be retired. We cook even on vacation. Back door needs some work large gaps in the door frame. But overall I gave 4**** because it is a beautiful home- vintage, 2 blocks away from the seawall. Enjoyed.

We had a great time at this spacious well-stocked home. There were 15 of us but 6 for only part of the time. Our favorite was the porch, which was breezy with lots of nice furniture. Check-in was a breeze and owner had good communication with long instructions. It is older with minor issues. We reported to owner, he was very responsive. Bathrooms were clean but dishes in cupboards were dirty. Not unwashed, but dusty. We were able to park 2 in the driveway and 2 right in front of the house. Unfortunately the last morning we were there a truck crashed into both of our vehicles parked in front of the house. It may be safer on Kempner. All in all it was a good experience and we would stay again.

We absolutely loved the house.. The owner, Mr Steury, was very helpful, and made our stay perfect. The beach was a block away. We walked to it. Definitely somewhere we will book again.

Great porch. Nice layout for groups downstairs but vents and interior paint and ceilings were poor. No shower curtains and one room had a bed bug catcher on floor. Never saw or felt bed drugs but off putting to my guests in that room.
