This Swiss Styled Cottage is perched at the top of a beautiful 10 acre property that overlooks the surrounding mountains and valley below. Located just 2 hours from Northern Virginia (DC) and 3 hours from Baltimore, MD this magical piece of heaven is perfect for those who love to paddle, hike, bike, horseback ride, fish, ski, antique or just lay back and decompress with a good book. Located in the Mill Gap area of Lost River, West Virginia, this property has expansive views, walkable land, 2 streams and 3 small bridges and your own Private Dog Park. Across the one stream is another meadow with a two storied bank barn. Our 'Lost River Swiss Cottage' is central to all that is happening in the Lost River Valley. The Lost River Farmers Market is below the Cottage (open on Saturday only) where you can grab great coffee, lunch and also sit on the patio and have a glass of wine / beer. One mile down Mill Gap is the small hamlet of Lost River where you can visit the local museum, Craft Cooperative, Lost River General Store and Café or practice yoga at The Yoga Barn. Bike, Hike, or Paddle! The George Washington National Forest is minutes away, Rock Cliff Lake with its sandy beaches or The Lost River State Park with its beautiful pool, hiking trails, and stables await your visit. Come to Lost River !!! Our cottage has 3 bedrooms; one king and two queens. Our newly appointed interior is cozy and fresh with approximately 2000 square feet of country living. You have use of the entire house (both levels). The upper level has 2 bedrooms, bath, sitting area and a kitchen. The lower level has a queen bedroom, full bath and you have 2 sitting areas on that level. We have an apple TV for all guests to use and we have fiber optic that is available for your use while staying in our Cottage.

The house has been updated nicely especially bathrooms! Great view and the screened in porch is amazing! The location is fantastic, close to The Guesthouse and the farmer's s market too! If you are planning to cook a lot as we did, there is not a ton of counter space and no dishwasher.

We loved our stay at the cottage, and are repeat visitors. Great location, proximate to Guesthouse, Lost River state park, Lost & Found pizza, Vintage Variety, and they have a lovely farmers market/cafe at the bottom of the house on Saturdays. Would recommend to anyone. Fantastic valley view.

This is our second stay at this property. We LOVE it here. The location, the view, the star gazing! The house itself is lovely and the newly enclosed deck area was perfect. I’ve already recommended it to friends of ours and we’ll definitely be back for a third visit!!

This is the second time we have stayed here. The addition of the screened in deck was truly magnificent. We also discovered if you turn on WiFi calling in your settings you can use your cell phone for texting and calling even without cell service. We absolutely had the most relaxing week. We will be back.

Wonderful base camp to explore the area. Comfortable, spacious, and clean. The farmers market and café at the bottom of the hill owned by the same folks as the cabin is also delightful. The only negative was that the water had a slight sulfur smell, so if that bugs you bring bottled water, but it wasn’t too bad. Would absolutely stay here again.

Tammy was a wonderful host and very responsive! The chalet was spotless and very comfortable and peaceful - the perfect retreat! We had 2 adults and a small dog, but there seems to be plenty of room & privacy for 1-2 other couples/families. The kitchen was well equipped to make a few simple meals. The screened in porch was breathtaking and we enjoyed having dinner on the porch. The house is on top of a very steep hill, so it made for a good cardio workout just running around with my dog for a few minutes, lol. The house is supplied by well water and does have a strong sulphur smell (as others noted), but we got used to it after a couple days. FYI - The roads leading up to the property are gravel, but seems manageable for most cars.

The house, property, and view was amazing!! Everything was so clean and beautiful inside. Even though the weather was a little chilly, it did not stop us from enjoying the screened in porch. The cabin is close to so many beautiful hikes and views. We also enjoyed the Oktoberfest at the Farmer's Market. Everyone was so friendly. It was the perfect stay.

Lots of space to relax in this three bedroom house - several seating areas plus the screened in outdoor living and dining room! Comfortable furniture, gorgeous views. Could easily have 6 adults staying comfortably. Very clean. Had everything you might need down to plastic wrap and a vacuum cleaner!
The negatives were minor - we were flummoxed by the Nest thermostat and how to reset it. We could not figure out the TV. There are a ton of light switches and a few could be better marked. But the fact that these features were there at all means the house is better appointed than any other I've stayed in.
City dwellers might find the well water a bit off-putting on smell.
I do suggest better marking at the driveway entrance. But those things should not deter anyone from picking this property for a great getaway.

Myself and family LOVED staying here. My wife and kids walked over to the farmers market Saturday and felt right at home. Tammy the property owner/manager communicated with us perfectly and made our stay so simple. We plan to come back!

Couldn’t have been a more relaxing trip. We needed a quick getaway and this place hit everything we needed! We loved watching the afternoon storms roll into the valley from the comfort of the amazing screened in porch. Kids loved swimming in the nearby lake. The farmers market was so nice. Great way to spend our Saturday morning there before we went out exploring.

Better than expected

This is one of the most beautiful VRBO properties we have stayed in. It is set between Lost River State Park and George Washington National Forest which has many fabulous hiking trails and amazing views. The 10 acre garden and quiet aspect was perfect for us and our dog thoroughly enjoyed rampaging up and down the lawn chasing the ball/sticks, streams to explore and wildlife on your doorstep. The cottage was well equipped, superbly clean with ample living space and chilling out areas, and very dog friendly. We loved the snug room downstairs, perfect for movie nights! Our favorite part of the cottage was the outdoor, screened decking area with the most gorgeous panoramic view of the hills and forests where we enjoyed many evenings have dinner and relaxing watching the sunsets. We stayed 7 days and wish we could have stayed longer. The farm shop and coffee shop down the bottom of the hill is also awesome but only open Saturdays. We are so looking forward to staying here again in the future and would certainly recommend to friends and family alike.

The cottage is ideally located for spectacular sunsets. The accommodations were fine. The place was spotlessly clean. The bathrooms were new and up to date, the living room furniture was fine (though the lights were very dim), and the kitchen facilities were adaquate (nothing great). Bring all your own food, there's nothing nearby. The parks in the vicinity were truly spectacular and the location of the cottage was ideal for heading out to the parks.

This was a clean, well maintained property. It had a good kitchen with everything we needed. We used the dog park a few times- there were a few toys there, but I would suggest bringing your own.

The cottage was very clean. It wasn't modern, if that's what you're looking for, but very cozy and comfortable. The view from the deck is AMAZING, and we spent a lot of time out there. The beds were fine. There's no dishwasher if that's important to you, but we had no problem with hand washing what we used. The kitchen was well stocked with pans and dishes we needed.
While there we enjoyed lots of beautiful hiking, especially at Lost River State Park. If it's open, make sure you visit the farmer's market at the bottom of the hill to get delicious coffee, pastries and lots of other goodies. I definitely recommend this home. We already made plans to come back in December!

Our family loved this place! The house was much bigger than pictures made it seem- plenty of room for the five of us to spread out. Kitchen was very well stocked with dishes, pans etc. Nice big patio. We also enjoyed playing ball and running around in the huge yard.

This was a seamless process from booking the cottage online to entering the property to communicating with the owners. The cottage was immaculately clean, and all of the appliances worked perfectly. We all enjoyed our week at the Swiss Cottage.
