Touring Carracastle is within easy reach of Knock Shrine, Castlebar, Ballina, Westport, Roscommon, Boyle, Sligo and Enniscrone on the Atlantic Coast, while Galway and Donegal are just over a one hour drive away. Clew Bay and Louisburgh just outside the west Mayo town offer a multitude of beautiful, jaw-dropping scenery, while the 42km Greenway is the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland. The Greenway traverses Ireland’s Atlantic coast between Westport town and Achill Island and visits the picturesque villages of Newport and Mulranny (Mallaranny). This is a an area of living history: rich in Stone, Bronze and Iron Age antiquities, as well as early Christian sites. The Céide Fields of Mayo have exposed 2,000 acres of stone walled fields built over hills and valleys with a unique interpretative centre.
