Our family of 6 stayed at the Mermaid Beach House the week before Christmas and had a great time. The views and gardens are amazing, and it was very easy to walk up and down the beach to go to restaurants. It was also easy to flag down a passing water taxi for a quick ride. The people also made this a memorable stay. Melissa was so pleasant to work with. She provided lots of advice on activities prior to our trip and was very helpful during our stay. Loly was great too. She helped set up a fishing/snorkeling trip with Patrick who I highly recommend. In lieu of renting a car she picked us up from the airport, took us on a full island tour and drove us to the brewery in the jungle on the way back to the airport. I also recommend having Dixie cook at the house. She came two nights, and we really enjoyed talking to her while she made wonderful dinners. Overall this location was perfect, and the friendly folks we met made it even better!

I cannot say enough about how much we four adults enjoyed our stay! The Mermaid House was spacious and had everything we needed for our week-long stay. It was very comfortable, and the kitchen was fully stocked. The location was perfect--about halfway between the West Bay and the West End--and Melissa was extremely responsive and helpful. We enjoyed the sunsets every evening from the beautiful deck, and during the day we went snorkeling from the dock. Also, Melissa put us in touch with Patrick, who picked us up at our dock and took us for a half-day of snorkeling on the reefs nearby (I highly recommend contacting Patrick!). All in all, the house and Melissa made this one of our best trips ever. We hope to return:).

Our host, Melissa was great and very attentive! Juan Carlos kept the pool up & trimmed some trees away from the roofline that were loud in the wind on the metal roof. We loved the location of the home a few steps down to the beach!
Unfortunately the home needs work. The kitchen drawer pulls and cupboards were not in working order, the pool shades are missing- making it virtuously impossible to use the deck in the heat of the day. The towels and linens need to be replaced badly they are dingy and musty, The pool chairs could use cushions. The bbq is not working 100% only a few of the burners turn on.
We used the transportation that Melissa recommended and it was great! She stopped at the grocery store so we could stock
Up! We also had Dixie cook dinner our first night, and it was outstanding!

Mermaid House (a lot of the locals still call it Casa Rubio) is exactly as advertised. It sits in a great halfway location between West End town and West Bay beach. The deck is uniquely elevated above the neighbor's houses which affords nice privacy while sunbathing. If there was any change we would make to the house, it would be some improved lighting as the interior is beautiful dark wood but tends to absorb the light. Minor detail though in an otherwise great house. The host, Melissa, was very accommodating and responsive. She has great connections for anything you would like to do. If you're there to dive, Clearwater Adventures is a short walk down the beach and proved to be a great operation. Other reviewers have done a good job of detailing other fun things like having the resident chef Dixie in to cook! We wished we had another week to stay!

A Beautiful home with stunning views and in premium location. All of our wants and needs were addressed very quickly by our host, Melissa, who goes above and beyond! Every recommendation and referral made our stay so memorable. Including transportation and excursions (i.e island tour, mangroves, fishing, massages etc) to dining....DO NOT miss out on DIXIE...WOW! Her food is amazing, what a blessing! Lighting could have been been brighter in some rooms. Additional shout outs to Loly, Afan, Shannon. Thank you to all!!! Look forward to returning to this beautiful home & island. Highly recommended!

I cannot overstate how much we loved our experience. This house is amazing but more importantly, our host Melissa made our trip better than we could have imagined. Melissa was helpful from before we left on our trip until the minute we headed for home. She set us up for rides to and from the airport with Shannon and Loly (Lola). She set us up with an Island tour with Lola which included a boat ride through the mangroves with a stop for lunch (this is a must do experience). Melissa scheduled two evenings of home cooked meals with Dixie which were absolutely scrumptious meals and tons of fun! The location of this house is perfect. It is a 5 minute walk to Clearwater Dive shop which I highly recommend for scuba and snorkeling tours on the reef. Also it is a short walk to the Gumbalimba Park which was a must do experience (monkeys, parrots, iguanas, ziplining etc..). Water taxis are easy to get from the private dock for a short ride to West End or West Bay. We cannot wait to return. Thank you Melissa, Lola, Dixie and Shannon for making our adventure so perfect! I highly recommend this house!

The house is in a great location on the beach between West End and West Bay. Very nice dock to use and good snorkelling. Short walk to a dive shop and restaurant - had lots of good meals at Luna Muna. Easy to use a water taxi to go to other restaurants or can walk as well. Would love to return someday!

The house and property were amazing. exactly as listed & shown on the website. melissa could not have been a more perfect & helpful host. She arranged all our transportation needs & provided us with any requests. We all had a wonderful time & will return again in the near future.

My 2nd visit to this home was just as great and relaxing as the first one in May 2021. It has the best view on the beach, has semi-privacy, yet is close walking distance to a beach bar, dive shop, and upscale restaurants further down the beach. Very quiet stretch of the beach. Walk further down to West Bay for more action and better snorkeling (but lots more cruise ship tourists).
Melissa, the home’s host, is wonderful and attentive. This place feels comfy like home from the moment you arrive. I’ll be back again in the future.

BEST PLACE TO STAY!
This was the perfect house for our vacation of 3 couples. Our hostess , Melissa , was in contact with us weeks before we got there. She answered all our questions promptly and made arrangements for our pick up from the airport. She set us up with Lola, who was our driver for the week. Lola was AMAZING! Not only did she provide us with transportation to and from the airport, she took us to the grocery store on the way in. Lola also arranged zip lining and snorkeling for us. Melissa arranged for Dixie, a local chef, to come to the house one night and cook a traditional Honduran meal for us that was EXCELLENT! Not only we’re we we’ll taken care of during our stay, the house is in the perfect location. Great snorkeling off the pier, easy access to West End and West Bay by boat taxis that were readily available. Clearwater dive shop was in walking distance and were great too! The house was spacious and cozy with an amazing view at sunset! We will definitely book this house for our next trip to Roatan!

Paradise Found
Our stay at the Mermaid House (Casa Rubio) was so much fun! We were a group of 4 - 2 couples, and there was plenty of room for all of us. Melissa was absolutely the best at making sure we had everything we needed. She even checked in with us several times to make sure we were doing well and to see if we needed anything. At Melissa's suggestion, we had Loly pick us up at the airport and we stopped at the grocery store on the way to the house too. Loly is just as nice as Melissa, and it felt like we were greeted like family at the airport. She also took us on a very nice tour of the other side of the island and was very knowledgeable about the island's history and cultures. I highly recommend having her take you on a tour that's off the beaten path. Another recommendation is having Dixie come to the house and cook for you. The dinner she made for us was probably the best meal we had while we were there. Melissa can arrange to have her come to the house. We did it on one of the days the cruise ships were coming in so we wouldn't have to leave the house. Had we known just how good she was, we would have had her come a few more times! The water taxis were very easy to catch if you want to go to West End Village or West Bay, and there are a few good restaurants just a few minutes walk down the beach. To say we loved our stay is an understatement!

There is AC that is individually controlled in each room, so you're always comfortable without wasting a ton of energy. Jugs of filtered water are provided, with plenty of extras so that you never run out. All of the appliances are top notch, and the kitchen is generally well stocked. The home is in a very safe location, surrounded by other beautiful vacation homes.
The beach is quiet and pristine, with great snorkeling right off the dock. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, take the kayaks out to the reef and tie up to a dive mooring. West End and West Bay are both walkable, about 15 minutes in either direction, however, you have to cross some rocky terrain. If you're not up for walking, you can easily hail a water taxi from the dock for $5 per person.
Melissa was wonderful to work with and always responded quickly. We truly can't say enough good things!

Fabulous house with beautiful view. Half way between West Bay and West End. Easy access to both with water taxis. Easy walk to two very nice restaurants.
Nestled in a small neighborhood so very quiet.

Wonderful location, property and service
I cant recall the last time I gave 5 stars across the board.
This rental was wonderful. Fabulous location (we were able to snorkel right off the beach - 10 yards from the house). There were great restaurants within a 5 min beach walk. The house was very nicely appointed - great internet service (I had 2 zoom meetings during the trip - no problems) and, of course the diving was wonderful (I recommend Roatan Divers).
Melissa was wonderful. She came to the property as soon as we checked in, to make sure all was OK, she advised on places to go and she was spot on. The day after we checked in I contacted her to ask if there was a tea kettle....that afternoon, she purchased one and left it on the patio.
We were so impressed that we asked her about neighboring properties for a family reunion. We will be back. Great location, home and Melissa was wonderful.

I’ve never felt better taken care of... excellent communication, warm and friendly, and immediately responsive to anything we needed. The home itself is so comfortable with its 3 very spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, tasteful island decor and artwork, very well equipped kitchen with all the typical American conveniences (Whirlpool appliances, Samsung washer/dryer). We truly felt at home from the moment we arrived.
And the VIEW!! Directly on the beach (which is very quiet and serene), friendly neighbors and fellow vacationers, and a quick water taxi ride from the home’s pier right out front - if you’re interested in visiting the livelier West Bay beach or West End areas.
I really can’t say enough positive things... let’s just say, I will be back later this year and I’m already counting down the days!

Amazing view!!!
The view was gorgeous and the sunsets from the deck were breathtaking! The house had everything you could need, and the view from the master bedroom was an extra bonus. The location was great, there are two very nice restaurants, lotus and Ibagari within 5 minute walking distance. The start of West Bay was only about a 15 minute walk, and West End about 10 minutes. It was also really easy to get a water taxi right off the dock in front of the house. Melissa the property manager answered all of our questions promptly, helped us by arranging rides and a kayak for the day. She also helped arrange to have Dixie come and cook for us one evening. This is a must!!! Best food ever!!!!!!!!!! Dixie is also a fantastic person and we really enjoyed getting to know her. Won't be disappointed with this place!

Fantastic trip!
The house was gorgeous and the location was perfect! Melissa took care of all our needs; including arranging transportation from the airport with a stop to buy groceries on our way to the house. It was quiet & felt very safe.... and the snorkeling from the beach behind the house was amazing! Can’t wait to go back!

What am amazing and beautiful vacation at Casa Rubio in Roatan. Our five day stay was definitely not long enough. The house is amazing! The pictures on line almost don’t do it justice . There were only two of us but this house is definitely big enough for six. Beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. High vaulted ceilings and large bathrooms with each bathroom. Spectacular view of the ocean from the living area, master suite and of course the deck. Sunsets were breathtaking. The cooling off pool was the perfect addition to the deck. Plenty of shade and sun for your preference. Perfect location to both ends . Melissa the house manager was outstanding! She was there to explain everything to us when we arrived and immediately answered questions or set up events as requested. She made great recommendations for dinner and each one was amazing. Very detail oriented and so easy to talk to! Highly recommend theI home dinner prepared by Dixie -outstanding and the inhome massage. Snorkeling right outside was terrific and the water taxi rides were fun and easy to use. We will definitely be back and highly recommend this home for your stay! Thanks for making our stay in a Roatan one we won’t soon forget!❤️❤️❤️

We were very pleased with this home. It was as nice as the pictures showed, clean and in good condition. The location was nice with great views and snorkeling right off the dock. Melissa was a great host suggesting good places to eat and helping us with questions. We can't wait to go back.
