About this cottage rental
This lovely spacious cedar cottage is located on a small, friendly island surrounded by one of the world's most beautiful pink sand beaches and turquoise waters. We built this cottage for our family, and love to share it with friends and beach-lovers. That's why we've made it one of the best lodging deals on Harbour Island.
The beach, only a short walk over the dunes and past a row of gorgeous plantation-style estates, is nearly three miles long. A five minute walk to the calm protected waters on the bay side leads to licensed water sports providers, fishing guides, and gorgeous sunsets to be seen nightly from gourmet restaurants and bars with a water and sky-view. It's also a great place to check out the incredible yachts that pull into the harbor.
Most locals get around in golf carts, and rentals are readily available for your stay.
While the restaurants are top-notch, the cottage has a full kitchen and a new propane grill for those who like to cook. Shop for fresh-caught fish or conch at the daily market. Relax and enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea on our deck shaded by century-old banyan trees or in the comfort of our spacious living room with fresh-baked goodies from the local bakery.
The master bedroom has a king-sized bed and attached bath (renovated as of March 2022). A bedroom (with queen bed) and a room with two twins share a bath (also renovated March 2022). A pull-out convertible sofa provides an additional queen bed.
We have a large, fenced yard for kids to play outdoors. The house is nestled between four large banyan trees that provide shade and keep all the rooms cool. There is a powerful AC unit in the living/dining area and a second one in the master bedroom. Ceiling fans are located in all of the bedrooms and the living room.
Please note: This is a NO SMOKING property.
If you like shopping, there are wonderful boutiques in town as well as excellent local shops that carry Bahamian-made goods. No foreign currency worries – the Bahamian dollar is on a par with the U.S. dollar. The local bank has a conveniently located ATM, and credit cards are accepted almost everywhere.
Harbour Island is the best of the Caribbean – small, friendly, laid back, comfortable, warm, and fun. We stayed at Back Banyan for a week with another couple, all of us in our early thirties, looking for a chill beach getaway on Harbor Island. We booked last minute and it ended up being a great call.The house has a cool surfer beach shack vibe with all the wood inside, and the living room was really nice. The location can't be beat. You're right next to Ma Ruby's and close to town, and getting around was a nonissue whether we walked or took the golf cart. We spent a couple days at the local beach, which was really nice, but mostly headed to the more resort-style beach for the shops, food, drinks, and umbrellas.The layout was a highlight. It's a perfect fit for two couples. The master has its own ensuite, but the full and two twin rooms share a bathroom, so four people would be a little tougher.A few small things. There were no cooking essentials stocked, so no olive oil, spices, flour, or rice. We were catching and cooking fish at night and had to go grab the basics. Some of the lighting was off too, with a few bulbs not working.All in all, good value and you really can't beat the location and layout. Two couples will love it here.

House was great, exactly as expected. Ideal central location, large yard for great privacy and very quiet at night. House manager stopped by to check on us which was very impressive. easy texting with any island related questions and instant response. We felt very taken care of and grateful to have scored this spacious and comfy home.

Alexis was a wonderful host, responsive and available whenever needed. The house is very dark and chilly, which was fine on hot days but not so much on cool days! Rugs were very stained and dirty. The primary shower had a dark and dirty ring around the perimeter, and the water pressure was very weak. The kitchen was lacking some basic tools - no blender, only one bowl, no pie pan. I purchased and donated one.
