Super sociable Hostel. A great place to meet other people. The evening events were okay to band groups together and we met some sound people.
1) We weren’t informed about ongoing construction to our dorms when we arrived and was put in a faulty room under repair. The door didn’t close properly, walls were poorly insulated straw (unlike friends’ in block 1 who’s rooms were plaster rooms), and the AC was broken and leaking, stuck at 17°C, making nights freezing. Beds were unstable (stilts and plywood), so any movement shook the whole room. With nights out encouraged by staff, many of us became ill from lack of sleep and cold conditions from this room. Staff refused compensation and offered another unfinished room that still smelled of fresh paint which they agreed couldn’t be given to us…
2) The showers were awful and smelled so bad constantly. Compared to other hostels in the Philippines, this felt poorly built and unhygienic.
3) Staff were unfriendly and focused on cash grabs. A service charge was added to every single drink or food order instead of a tab. Drinks were overloaded with local alcohol to the point they weren’t even drinkable…
4) The hostel is far from General Luna and main attractions (around a 40–45 min drive). The surrounding area has very little to do, making the location inconvenient and not as advertised.
