Option to rent from mid May to mid October: 2019 22ft Sylvan pontoon boat (90 HP) for $1000/week or $250/day with a $500 refundable damage deposit). The pontoon boat is not available to rent from late October through early April due to the dock not floating during the late fall/winter months. * Fontana Lake water levels vary throughout the year. The dock is typically floating from the 3rd week of April until the end of September. From October until late April the dock rests on the shore bank. Guests can still access the water by stepping off the 60' walkway and walking down the shore bank to the water. Fontana Lake is over 200 feet deep in areas so there is always a lot of water in this 30 mile long lake. The lake is slowly drawn down after labor day and is dropped approximately 50 linear feet during the winter months and typically starts rising in March. The private dock on Fontana Lake is most easily accessed by using the side by side ATV. For our fitness minded guests, the hike takes about 8 minutes. Because the area is very mountainous, accessing the dock via a wheelchair or other assistive device is very difficult. The cabin is located at the end of a 2 mile hard packed gravel one lane road. Although there is very little traffic on this road, guests are encouraged to drive slow and be prepared to safely pull over or back up slightly in the very rare event of a vehicle coming in the opposite direction. Trash policy: Please do not leave any trash outside of the garbage can provided to avoid trash build up during rental which will attract local wildlife. Guests can take trash to community dump conveniently located off Hwy 28 during rental or call property manager to make arrangements.

Our stay at this cabin was truly remarkable! I consider myself quite the cabin enthusiast and have frequented many, but this one easily ranks as the best I've ever experienced. The views from this place were nothing short of breathtaking; I was completely captivated by them. The listing was entirely accurate, and the host's responsiveness made the entire process smooth and hassle-free. The cabin itself was not only beautifully designed but also impeccably clean. However, the absolute highlight was undeniably the incredible view. Whether it was enjoying our morning coffee on the deck or marveling at the starry night skies, I was in constant awe. If I had to mention one small drawback, it would be the distance from the nearest grocery store. My advice to future guests would be to stock up before heading up the mountain. But this minor inconvenience is entirely beyond the host's control. I personally prefer the distance away and the quietness of the cabin. It was undoubtedly a 5-star stay, and I can't wait to return. Thank you to the host for sharing this incredible cabin with us, everything exceeded expectations.

View was beautiful, several Windows didn't lock or close all the way to latch and 3 of 4 smoke detectors were removed. The fireplace in the living room was broke. Pilot light would not stay lite. Spoke to owners several times but were not able to have fixed. The ceiling fan light in the second bedroom had 4 lights that were all burn out and had to replace so you could see. Upstairs Bathroom vent was caked with dust and mold. Had to vaccum ourself. Couch in living room had recliners, only one worked. Hockey game coffee table in living room broke. Dish washer front panel kept falling off, washing machine reaked of mildew. Two mile road going to the house was less than well maintained as advertised. Road has many ruts. Would not rent again. Owner needs to go make many repairs and make sure items work before renting.

Driving up to the house was quite an experience. It built up the suspense and anxiety of whether or not the pictures of the property did it any justice. Let me just say once we pulled up to the cabin we were amazed at how spot on and gorgeous the view was from both the parking area and the back porch! My visit to the Lazy Elk Cabin was for a laid back bachelor party with the guys and the cabin met our needs and then some. We loved waking up to the view and how secluded it felt in the mountains. The side-by-side ATV was our saving grace getting up and down the mountain to the dock where three kayaks and the pontoon boat resides as it was quite a steep hike heading back for those of us attempting to walk it. Speaking of the pontoon boat, I highly recommend renting the pontoon if only for a day to really take in the stunning views surrounding the lake. Amy sent us some awesome coordinates for hiking trails on the other side of the lake regarding waterfalls, creeks, and an overgrown ghost town from the 1890s as well as the spot of the rope swing shown in the pictures. Visiting at the end of September was also a real treat for us as there were not very many boats cruising around in the lake and it felt like we had it all to ourselves minus the tens of house boats tucked away in the coves. Along with the quietness of the lake the weather was perfect for us to spend a lot of our time on the back porch enjoying the view, hot tub, and firepits both gas and wood-fueled.
