Such a charming place!
Loved the caretaker's tour of the museum and the house. He could, as he says, give an eight- hour talk on the place, and Smithville and Missouri. Actually, really fascinating history!
Smithville is a charming little bitty town with a big history.
The brew pubs that were open on a Monday looked lively and fun, but i just took a drive out to the lake and then came back and crashed.
The AC is a lifesaver for a Colorado person, used to dry heat!
The whole place is full of eclectic antiques and vintage items, the decor is charming!
Generous bathroom, walk in shower.

There was no breakfast, but we had full use of the kitchen and the supplies, so we were able to make coffee and there was cream in the fridge. Everything was clean and nice. It is rather unique because the hotel IS the museum. It is chock full of history, documents, old photos and antique furniture. a little unusual at first, but we grew to love it as we looked around and read the history. It is a very special place, a one of a kind experience. Delightful.
Maybe just knowing ahead of time what it would be like.

Hospitality of the host and the property itself which is actually a mini-museum from 19th century
Since the house has been there for 200 years, it was creaking and had old wooden smell. Nothing wrong if you are fine with it

This is a unique and interesting place that is literally an Inn and Museum all at once. The rooms are furnished with antiques, old photos, documents, and knickknacks from the area. It is a wealth of history, art, and comfortable rooms. There are only two bedrooms, but there is also a living room upstairs, and kitchen and dining room downstairs for you use. The longer we were there, the more we loved it.
When we first come in we were a little startled by the museum aspect of the home, because we expected that to be in a separate building. It might be nice to realize ahead of time that you are literally sleeping in the museum.
