Twyfelfontein Country Lodge

Spectacular grounds that include ancient rock paintings. Good sized room with nice canopy bed. Decent buffet breakfast and dinner served in dining room w nice views. The desert elephant tour is spectacular.

- The rooms have wonderful large floor to ceiling windows as do many rooms in Namibia. But in this case the rooms are placed back to back against one another. This means that half of the rooms face the cliff and have no view. The other half have great views, but since there is another room behind them they can't be entered from the back; they must be entered from the front, and this means you have guests walking past your floor to ceiling windows to get to their rooms. Hence pretty much everyone keeps their curtains closed for privacy and misses the views. - The hotel is at the end of a road with a sign saying 4x4 is required, though it looks like you would likely be ok without it. - I don't recommend renting an electric bike. The roads are too bumpy and the baboons steal the trail signs so you get lost. - No wifi in the rooms.

The Twyfelfontein country lodge is the perfect place to stay for a game drive to watch the desert elephants. The game drive was fantastic. The lodge we had was the luxury VIP suite. If you want to spoil yourself, then book this luxury suite to enjoy your stay like a king. We enjoyed it very much. The main lodge is a bit larger than average lodges.

The food is served as a buffet and a bit focused on German visitors. More variety would be welcome.

Beautifully located, comfortable room and bathroom, great bed, nice pool (and not as freezing as the rest of the pools in Namibia), friendly staff (special shout out to Alex driving the safari truck).

I found it to be pricey, compared to other nice lodges I stayed at in Namibia. The food quality could be better (very large buffet style, no fresh fruit at breakfast…). My room was very far from the reception and the parking (and I didn’t have the possibility to call from my room to ask for help with luggage).

Great location to visit the UNESCO site.

This country lodge, once clearly a place of charm and quality (as suggested by remnants of its former glory), has unfortunately devolved into something more akin to a 2-star motel catering primarily to large tour groups. You can still sense the passion and care that once went into its creation, but it has since outgrown itself and now functions more like a cafeteria-style hostel. A lack of staff—or perhaps poor allocation of duties—resulted in some of the most inefficient service I've encountered in Namibia. The arrival experience was particularly unwelcoming by local standards. Staff appeared apathetic and visibly overworked. It was chaotic to say the least. At breakfast, a single chef was responsible for both the egg station and serving all other hot buffet items, which were intended to be served rather than self-help. Meanwhile, three staff members lingered by the entrance, seemingly assigned only to greet guests. The dinner buffet was passable but fell short of the high standard I’ve come to expect throughout Namibia. Rather than feeling like a guest at an exclusive lodge, I felt like I was dining in a canteen.
