This little cabin was only a short trip from Auckland city, but the perfect fix for a getaway without feeling too far. Close enough to the beautiful beach and Kauri trails, this place was nothing short of our expectations. Wonderful experience would definitely recommend! :)

Gorgeous, homely with buckets of rustic charm!! What a gem, we absolutely loved our stay. Margaret was a lovely host who greeted us on arrival and was there if we needed anything. The cottage is perfectly laid out with a generous well stocked kitchen, leading onto a homely comfortable lounge and a separate bedroom with a deck and beautiful views across the valley. Tastefully decorated, it is the quintessential storybook cottage A generous and varied continental breakfast was provided with local eggs and coffee. We were hesitant about the outdoor shower but it was really good, hot, powerful and a provided some entertainment! We felt very private, secluded and relaxed, just what we needed...

The 3 night stay was after 12 day’s work. The outdoor shower and toilet were perfect. The local market down the hill with 5 people was bliss (beans roasted at Bethell’s beans, 1 km away). The wild smashing waves of Blethell’s black sand beach, shared with only a few others people was surreal. A coffee van parked in the beach car park, playing some tunes on a 22C, blue sky day was a great find. A range of local walks on offer-resting heart rate to maximum heart rate. Only bettered by simply sitting on the tiny deck , sipping a poison of your choice and looking out through the foliage down the valley. We enjoyed cooking breakfast and eating on the deck. There is nothing to complain about when you are surrounded by New Zealand native bush and rolling countryside. This was a last minute booking for me and it was just what I needed. A lovely old quaint cottage to unwind in and connect with nature. Going outside in the cold to the toilet in the middle of the night was all part of the adventure. It was like going back in time, watching old DVD's, playing patience with a deck of cards, and showering outside with the Tuis. The host was lovely and very accommodating. The beach is an absolute treasure also. Thank you.

We were amazed with the location of the place and it was actually more then we expected! The cottage was gorgeous and cosy with lovely views and surrounded by beautiful trees. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again! * Amazing outdoor shower.

We went for a little winter getaway weekend, escaping the buzzy akl city life and absolutely loved it. The place is tucked away and surrounded by beautiful nz bush, green outside every window and so cozy:) . Many hikes were closed due to post flooding land slips, but bethels beach never disappoints and we were the only ones in the water for sunset surf each night - so stunning. Thanks for having us, we’ll be back :)

Utterly idyllic and characterful, full of quirky charm. The perfect getaway in a scenic and tranquil location. Very comfortable and thoughtful accommodation, everything provided that you could wish for. Can't recommend highly enough if you want somewhere to escape the busyness and recharge.

This was a perfect place for a chilled few days away from our busy lives. We wanted a place we could make meals and the kitchen was great for that. We love rustic and expected that, instead it was charming and beautiful and warm. The owners were wonderfully patient as we navigated an unexpected funeral and kept changing dates. Really kind. Close to Bethels beach, the weather was stunning and I even won at chess!

Absolutely breathtaking views. Margret was a gracious host, ensuring we had light and water in case of a power outage during a storm. Couldn't have asked for a more cozy cottage to have my introduction to Aotearoa. The outdoor shower and the view from it was the highlight of the stay.

Perfect get away from the cities buzz. Beautiful surroundings, beach a short distance from cottage. Clean, neat and fully equiped kitchen, coffee, tea, sugar even self service continental goodies provided!! Thanks for a great stay Margaret 10/10👌

The German description of Fewo-Direkt.de says that the cottage has 1 bathroom. This is not the case. There is only an outdoor shower, an outdoor sink with cold water only and an outdoor toilet a few steps away in the bush. We are sorry, but for us it was not possible to stay there for 2 weeks in colder autumn. It might be OK for a weekend in summer. We left the place and looked for something else to live during our vacation.

Lovely rustic property in an idyllic setting - close enough to civilization if you want anything, but a world away from it if you don't. Lovely hostess, excellent and substantial complimentary breakfast, and the cottage really comes with everything that you could need for a few days away from the rat-race (I even noticed a toothbrush and toothpaste which I guess was there in case you'd forgotten to bring your own!)

Margarets little cottage nestled in the bush was the perfect place to spend my partner and I's 8th anniversary together. We really appreciated all the small ammenities and details that she has put thought and consideration into especially the fresh eggs and pantry items provided. My partner and I had such a restful time here and can't wait till we have another opportunity to return. Between the beautiful bush, bird life and the peacefulness of this place we had a very memorable time here. Thank-you again Margaret for hosting us and for all the effort made to create such a cosy and pleasant stay.

Lovely cottage to get away from it all for a long romantic weekend. Great views of the bush from the bedroom and close to the amazing west coast beaches. Great selection of movies and lots of lovely touches. I didn’t mind the outside loo but it’s probably less comfortable on a rainy weekend. Our host was absolutely lovely, very attentive and just checked in with us as we arrived, after the first night to see if we were happy and when we left.
