Historic Shotgun Home, 1 Block off St. Charles
About this condo rental
This 100-year-old historic shotgun home is perfectly located in the beautiful Lower Garden District of New Orleans. The famous New Orleans streetcar is just one block away. The house is within walking distance of many great restaurants and close to several famous attractions such as the National World War II Museum, the Superdome, the Smoothie King Center, the Convention Center, the French Quarter, and much more. The historic shotgun layout is perfect for a stay in New Orleans, and the location could not be better. You will be staying on the right side of a double shotgun home with 11-foot ceilings. The front room contains a smart TV and couch that can sleep one. The spacious bedroom has a queen-sized bed that can sleep two. The back room has a dining table, a desk, and a futon that can sleep one. The bathroom and kitchen are full of essentials. Outside in the back is a private patio with a table and chairs. The entire place has wifi. The Lower Garden District was built in the mid-19th century and is one of the most scenic and wealthy areas of all New Orleans. Grand, historic mansions line the streets, making it a scenic neighborhood away from the bustle of the French Quarter and perfect for strolling. Find yourself within walking distance to upscale dining, craft cocktails and rare antiques. However, there is also casual dining, local bars, and boutiques all in the area as well. Nearby attractions include the World War II Museum, Audubon Park & Zoo, Lafayette Cemetery, Commander's Palace, and the shops of Magazine Street. Just a few minutes away from the Lower Garden District and a short car ride away is the famed French Quarter. Opt for taking the charming streetcar down St. Charles Avenue and enjoy all the sites in between. Many attractions can be enjoyed by foot, but for other means of transportation there are nearby blue bike share hubs. Taxis and ride shares such as Uber and Lyft operate heavily in the area. The St. Charles streetcar line is just one block away and can transport you up to the French Quarter or across to Riverbend. For those traveling by car, street parking outside the home is readily available.

Good location but likely you need more than average knowledge of New Orleans (i.e. transportation options) to take full advantage. Be sure to get a Jazzy Pass for streetcars and buses.

Truly enjoyed the authenticity of this historic property and its location. Loved the roominess of the house. We could walk everywhere or take the St. Charles streetcar to where we wanted to be. A quiet neighborhood yet so convenient to everything.

We had no heat first couple days. Property Manager told us there was heat but there were no instructions on how to get the heat. We found a space heater, which wasn't working at its best & can't leave them on all nite. Finally manager explained the heat comes thru the a.c. with the remote. BUT he lied about the heat coming from the a.c. by the futon, it did not. We both got very sick & are still trying to recover. Floors were soooo dirty. We deserve at least a partial refund. He wasn't easy to get hold of. Could not leave a msg on his phone. It would say "this phone has no voice mail box". We would just have to wait until he decided to call us back. Then I started texting him, which was easier. I wanted to talk to him for him to hear that I had laryngitis, sore throat, ear ache. Heat should have been turned on before we got there on Tuesday as the temperature was in the 50's. Wednesday, came home from swamp tour to another day of cold house. He finally called that nite & explained a little better about the heat but I feel I had to drag the words out of him. No heat in room with futon where my friend slept. We missed out on the Plantation Tour because we were sick. We're out each $64.00 for that tour.

We had a wonderful stay at Bailey’s property. The listing and pictures are accurate - but the pictures don’t quite show how cute this shotgun house is! Great location that is convenient to downtown New Orleans and other areas and made exploring the city so easy. Bailey was extremely communicative and very helpful with any questions we had. We had plenty of towels and blankets, which was so nice to have. (I’ve stayed at other properties that had one towel per person.) The only minor issue we had was a TV across the street that was extremely bright and would illuminate the bedroom through the transom window above the front door until the middle of the night. That said, our stay was absolutely great and I would absolutely recommend Bailey’s property to anyone visiting New Orleans - and I look forward to rebooking this property when I visit New Orleans again.

I have never been steered wrong by customer reviews on Vrbo but this trip was an exception. This home is centrally located as reported in the review and very close to everything. We got in at 11 at night after a long day of flying. In the dark it looked to be an extremely sketchy looking neighborhood. In the light of day the house next store is totally dilapidated and vacant. The window air conditioning unit clicks on and off every 10 to 15 seconds incredibly loudly and is right across from the bed. This made sleep nearly impossible. Along with the neighbors alarm going off for over 3 hours. Overall, the house was fairly tidy but the tub was incredibly dirty. Also, the rug in front of the bed was very dirty. There isn't a bed skirt or sheet on the box springs which was strange. The lock on the front door just spun around in circles so it took several tries to get it locked successfully. We hadn't messed with it so it appeared it may have been unlocked when we arrived. The lock on the backdoor was also tricky. The screen door also didn't shut so during some wind it was blowing back and forth. We were scheduled to stay 5 nights and we checked into a hotel (adding $1800 to our trip cost) after 2 nights of zero sleep. We did not reach out to the host as we didn't feel most of these issues could be taken care of in the time of our stay and some of the things concerning us were out of their control. The communication we did have with the host was fine. If you are looking for a roof over your head and to be close to everything this location does satisfy those needs but if you're looking for a comfortable stay this may not be the one.

Communication is good. Very close to St. Charles, and a 25 min. walk to the CBD and Canal St. Nice park nearby. The house is not deep cleaned, so our feet were black after walking barefoot on the floor, even though we saw the cleaners mop it. They just don't push hard to get the dirt that is layered on, and they don't get under the bed, which is really noticeable since there is no dust ruffle. Window unit has 'need cleaning' light on. No dishwasher, one knife, shower drains well, skillets are teflon and scratched. Kitchen sink drips. Couch is comfy. Need 2 more pillow cases--we put pillows in our tshirts.

5 star host & location!
We were SO relieved to conclude our stay in New Orleans at this lovely property - very quiet and beautiful neighborhood that is well connected to the city centre, heaps of space, clean and comfortable. Bailey's (host) was extremely responsive and accommodating- even going so far as to bring us an extra heater during a recent cold snap. Couldn't ask for more and highly recommend! ❤

We stayed three nights in New Orleans as part of our 3.5 week road trip across the US and back. This house was adorable- shabby chic. We were very comfy. We walked to the National WW2 Museum, to the Lafayette Cemeteries (1 and 2), to the French Quarter and Bourbon St. It took about 1/2 to 3/4 hour each way- easy. Our son, poor guy, had to stay in the house doing freshman college course enrollment and orientation for 2 days. He was v comfortable at the house, while Dad and Mom went off exploring. Lovely cafes and bakeries very close. We got an Amazon Prime grocery delivery to the house from Whole Foods one day. We cooked lots of food in the sweet kitchen. Big fridge, great stove, lots of hot water, pots and pans, cutlery, crockery- a really well equipped kitchen. Coffee and teas provided (though we had our own). Majillions of towels. It was lovely and clean and welcoming. The test? We were all v happy to walk around barefoot. Quiet at night, too. Only complaint- teeny one- the transom window above the front door is uncovered (quite rightly) to let in light. But at night the house opposite had a huuuuge TV visible through the second floor window. The light was so bright we could watch their TV while lying in bed, and it illuminated the whole room after we turned out the lights. I don't know the solution... Maybe a tiny curtain across the transom? We had great communication with Bailey. The house was super well located. We came with two cars and parked them outside the house (we arrived at midnight) and just left them there all three days. We are most definitely going to be back to stay in the same house. And this time, maybe our boy will get to see more of the city!

I stayed a full week and enjoyed Bailey's place. So convenient and with no vehicle could walk everywhere I needed to go. Great restaurants and attractions and parks.

This house is located super close to Bourbon Street and the French Quarter - about 6 minutes by car. Parking out front was easy, free, and always available. The Seed restaurant just two doors up on the corner is delicious, and I’m not vegetarian!

Great neighborhood
We’ve always stayed in the French Quarter during previous visits to NOLA. This location was perfect and gave us a totally different experience. Easy walk to the French Quarter, but also had fun window shopping and brunching and lunching on Magazine.

Loved our stay!
This property was close to everything we wanted to see and do during our stay in New Orleans. It's close to Magazine St., the Garden District, the French Quarter and Bourbon Street. There's nearby streetcar stations and Uber rides were fairly cheap, too! The house was cute and had everything we needed! We also greatly appreciated the extra comforter because we happened to visit NOLA on an especially cold day. Definitely recommend this location :)

Perfect Location
This location was perfect...Easy access to anything fun. Just a short walk from the street car and not expensive to Uber to down town either. St. Charles Tavern is the best for middle of the night munchies and just a short walk as well. the back Patio was so nice to sit at and just listen to the sounds of the city. Street parking was a little tricky during normal business hours but easy to park right out front after hours. We LOVED it and would love to stay again.....
