Hotel Gladbeck van der Valk

We had a lovely warm welcome at reception and the chap couldn’t have been more helpful. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable ( two double beds)and I loved the spray for your pillow to help you sleep, there was cartons of water in the fridge and plenty of complimentary products. We had a great nights sleep and breakfast was delicious, we reluctantly checked out but I will definitely be back. It also takes pets which is a bonus .

There is nothing to not like about this hotel.

The rooms were clean and new, can see it’s been recently renovated, nice quiet area, a lot of parking spaces, stuff at the restaurant and reception very polite, breakfast was literally amazing with a great choices and very fresh.

As previous reviews have mentioned, you need to walk through a construction area to reach the rooms. When we arrived, there were no towels in our room, and there was no room phone, so I had to call reception using my own mobile. Unfortunately, we also experienced a couple of safety issues. I found a needle on the carpet, and later my daughter was playing when she caught her finger on a loose staple sticking out of one of the pouffes. It went into her finger and caused quite a lot of bleeding. I would strongly recommend that the staff thoroughly check the rooms and furniture to prevent this from happening again. The only other downside was that the beds were a bit too narrow for my liking. Dinner at the restaurant was quite expensive, but I didn’t really like the food.

We enjoyed the location being near a woodland area . The staff were friendly to deal with and the hotel restaurant was brilliant . Breakfast was good .

We asked to upgrade to a refurbished room which we paid for . But upon arrival , our son’s room had no curtains. We asked for this to be resolved but it appeared that it wasn’t going to be that day , so had to prompt to move my sons to another room. Our rooms 349 and 350 , despite being refurbished to an excellent , stunning standard , do have a major issue with the shower not draining properly. We could only shower for maximum 1-2 mins before flooding the bathroom. We also never had working air conditioning for our whole stay. Our sons were moved from 351 to 350 and had working air conditioning in those rooms . Apart from the issues above , which the hotel did attempt to resolve some of them, I was overall left feeling disappointed having paid over £900 for 3 nights for two rooms , it was a lot of money and I feel like I had to complain a lot to get things resolved .i think some people wouldn’t tolerate this but I got a bit fed up of asking and chatting to reception about issues , walking back and forth etc .
