Room furniture is a bit worn out.

The comfort of the bed was very good and the size of the room acceptable. The bathroom was also a good size and had a bath and separate shower. The dinner in the bar/restaurant was reasonably good value and the breakfast was good value considering it was included in the room price. The staff were excellent, being friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel relevant to the town was excellent, being a short walking distance to everything the town had to offer. It was also a good base from other attractions within the area.

Well, Best Western needs to spend an absolute fortune to get the building up to scratch. It is obviously an old building but it has been left so long that it requires a major refurbishment, not only in redecorating, but the whole infrastructure. The poor staff (who are SO professional) seem almost embarrassed to be working there and do a sterling job in remaining as positive as possible regarding the state of the hotel. Also, from a personal experience, I was in a room that had a macerating toilet in the bathroom which, whenever any water was used (bath/shower/wash basin/toilet) constantly "macerated" on a regular basis every few minutes. Worried that it was going to disturb my sleep, I used the facilities downstairs before I settled down for the night rather than risk the noise of the toilet before the system sorted itself out and stopped being so noisy. I don't think this was an acceptable situation. Regarding noise overall, because the building is so old, footsteps, doors closing, floors creaking are all prevalent noises that can and do disturb the comfort of a stay.
