We stayed a further night at this hotel but found the price to pay, for the second night, was greater than the original online booking

Perfectly decent 3 star hotel, the staff were pleasant and helpful, breakfast was freshly cooked (no lukewarm buffet here!) and was entirely decent. Comfortable bed, clean rooms, and bathrooms, plenty of hot water. Totally fine for my one night stay for work, the town is pretty and has plenty of good restaurants and cafes as well.
The hotel is a little tired. The carpets are worn and frayed in both corridors and rooms. The facilities are rather dated, paint scuffed, etc. All cosmetic stuff, unimportant if you're staying for a a night or two and need somewhere warm and clean to sleep.
