I liked the character of the hotel. It is different from most modern chain-hotels. The rooms aren't renovated recently, and that adds to the experience. Everything works, even if it's not sparkling new. Also: the staff did everything they could to make it a pleasant stay.
We stayed there for the Ironman, and it worked really well.
There will be some noise from the square in the evening. Things calmed down, but be aware. Many rooms face the square. Anyway, the day before the Ironman, noisy activities stop at 22:00. That's an agreement with all restaurants, pubs et.c. We moved to a room at the back, and that was quiet.

Large room in central Kalmar. Be aware that you have to park a bit away from hotel since most central street are for walking and cycle. The bed was comfy and the breakfast buffet excellent, very good quality. Wifi good. The hotel building is very old but tastefully re-decorated.
We arrived around 22 a weekday night after a long drive and the bar was closed. Probably not the hotel’s fault but the strict hospitality rules in Sweden
