When we first checked in, we were very happy with the apartment. It had everything we needed: kitchen utensils, a washing machine, and a dishwasher, which was very convenient.

When we first checked in, we were very happy with the apartment. It had everything we needed: kitchen utensils, a washing machine, and a dishwasher, which was very convenient. We were staying with our two children, aged 2 and 4. We mostly cooked our meals in the apartment, washed the dishes in the dishwasher, and stored everything in the kitchen drawers. After a few days, my husband opened the drawer with the cutlery and saw a mouse inside. It immediately ran away. We informed the hosts right away, but instead of taking us seriously, they treated us as if we were making the whole story up. They kept saying, “Where is the mouse? There is no mouse,” and insisted that we had imagined it. We started looking for evidence ourselves and found rodent droppings all over the floor under the kitchen cabinets and even on top of the cabinets. We showed them to the hosts, but they still dismissed our concerns and continued claiming that we were making everything up. My husband then had to go out and buy everything needed himself: mouse traps, gloves, cleaning cloths, and other supplies. My mother cleaned the apartment, swept up all the droppings, and disinfected the kitchen. We set up a sticky trap, and by the middle of the day the hosts finally started cooperating. They said they were shocked, that this had never happened in 26 years, and that they would help us solve the problem. However, by then we had already lost an entire day of our holiday because of the stress, the time wasted, and the fact that we had to deal with the problem ourselves. Very soon we heard noises under the kitchen cabinets. When we removed the kickboard, we found that the sticky trap had caught not a mouse, but a rat. It was struggling to get free, and our children were terrified. We called the hosts, who apologized at that moment and made a very superficial attempt to clean up.
