Spa was great

Cosy atmosphere. Comfortable bed. Friendly staff.

Spa treatment overpriced and probably one of the worst I’ve ever had.

The staff were so friendly and helpful throughout the hotel and the spa. Our room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. The spa treatment was amazing as was the spa centre itself. Dinner and breakfast were tasty and well presented.

Nothing, it was expensive but worth it.

The overall place is fine, the staff are excellent, and there are many shortfalls. The heating was off in the room when we arrived (it was a relatively cold day at 10 deg C) so I turned the radiator in the room and in the bathroom on. Unfortunately, the one in the room did not work. Asked reception and someone came and hit the radiator valve then all was OK. Pity no one ensured the room was warm at the start, The room lighting is very poor and you could not comfortably read a book. The place is supposed to be dog friendly, but in reality it is more dog tolerant. Would have been nice to have some old towels or similar at the main entrance so we could ensure our dog’s paws were clean and some clear signs to show where the dog poo bin is essential. We do not like to leave our dog alone in the hotel room so arranged to be able to have her with us when we dined so knew we would not be in the main restaurant. However, the bar area where we were put was about as far from the main restaurant as possible, which seems a strange choice given there are 3 other comfortable lounges and an additional dining room that could have been used. Where we were was not ideal owing to the drinkers. The table was small and cramped, difficult to sit at, as well as being lower than expected. This discomfort was exacerbated by the lounge style low chairs. Worst of all they just put the cutlery on the bare wood of the bar room table. No table cloth and not even a table mat place chairs tablecloth. The napkins were torn and tired as was much of the decor. None of this makes it an "ELEGANT COUNTRY ESCAPE”. Having visited many such hotels, including all of the Polizzi Collection Hotels and Bailiffscourt Hotel, I would definitely put Ockenden well at the bottom of the list.
